Level 3.mp3

Flooded Temple is a good dungeon. It's short, sweet, and to the point. It's so short, that we're tackling the entire thing this update after doing exploration. Long update, but I doubt any of you are complaining

Also this track is banging.

New enemies here! Wizzrobes work the same as in Zelda 1: they teleport around and fire at you. The Ice bat (which is clipping into the pillar) shoots triple ice shots towards you every now and then. The Ice Bat is the real threat here; it's unpredictable and you want it gone ASAP. It's balanced out by being instakilled by both the leaf and fire rods, making it a glass cannon.

Another Sokuban!

It looks complicated, but it isn't. The trick here is that the bottom 4 way block is a ruse and you don't need it.

Heading back to the other room, there was a gear there that the bat was clipping into. What does the gear do?

Best. Thing. Ever.

Nothing but a compass over here.

Time to use our key and plunge into the unknown then!

We fall into this tiny space with a push block we can push out to escape.

Another lock! We also see that falling off that gear from above would just land you next to a portal back up.

You'd think we would've seen water prior to now, what with it being the flooded temple.

The geyser pushes us into the air! Hmmm...

Aha! The leaf works!

I have nothing but dislikelike for likelikes. Also, another new enemy: Bubbles! They jinx you and make you unable to use your sword or items for a few seconds if they touch you.

I love these gears.

On my way back I accidentally fall off the gear and down to the floor below. Pits, gears, and water seem to be the theme of this dungeon. Speaking of water, we can't line up our leaf to hit the fan with that water in the way cause we can't use items while swimming.

Oh boy, more giant traps. These ones are a doozy to dodge, so we need to be careful.

Fun fact, the boomerang can grab stuff like hearts that enemies drop. It can't pick up important items like keys here, but it's still helpful.

We now have 2 keys. Let's go use them.

Doot.

Doot.

Midboss.mp3

Another miniboss!

It can periodically dive underwater...

And launch itself into the air when it surfaces, firing a buncha fireballs!

It'll also charge up white energy...

And attempt to kamikaze us! Yikes!
I take a death here cause I was already low on health.

Confirmed Deaths: 14

Otherwise, it goes down without much trouble, and we get...

The Ice Kunai! This is a really good item.

Freezing water, firing in 8 directions, rapidfire by holding the button, decent damage (with a chance of having high damage randomly). It's a very good all purpose item.

We can hit this fan and bypass the barrier by freezing the water in front of it now.

Time to show off the Kunai's other function!

Align yourself and face any one of these kunai tiles, use the kunai, and you'll teleport directly onto the tile, no matter how far away you are. Very handy!

Charged up fire rod is the best way to deal with these groups of ice bats.

Drat! A locked door! We'll be back here later.

This block puzzle we saw early on had some of these tiles. Time to use them!

All of the items are getting pretty good usage. It's very nice.

Hitting the switch opens the door to the left. We can somehow align ourselves with the teleport tile on the left for a fast way over there. Speedrun strats, everyone!

Hey, it's these guys! Our new ice kunai is a very good way of dealing with them with it's long, 8 direction range and fast firing.

Key get. Let's head back to that locked door we saw. But first...

A quick detour to get the map. This dungeon is tiny! It has the same screencount as level 1, but with an even faster pacing.

On our way back to the locked door, we also take another death I was too dumb to screenshot.

Confirmed Deaths: 15

A puzzle blocks our path! This puzzle is cool.

You just need to freeze a path for the ice blocks without freezing the parts you don't need; the ice blocks treat the water as a place it can't go, so you can use that to align them with the switches.

Wha-

The water level just raised up to this floor. The lower floor is now permanently inaccessible, and the pits on this floor now become swimmable water.

Confirmed Deaths: 16

The Ice Kunai triggers these blue switches (though you need to spam the kunai, there's a visual effect showing the switch getting hit multiple times before it'll actually stay activated), and allows us another key!

Oh lord. Beeeeeeg sokuban.

We can teleport to these tiles to reach different parts of the room, so long as we can make direct line of sight wiht them.

This one was a hard one! Took me a few tries and some room resetting.

We can teleport over here to activate this now...

Which lowers this!

Not shown in this image: That gear is spinning really freaking fast.

So fast, we're trapped if we get sucked into this corner.

We can teleport over here to escape, but this leads to the dead end we saw before with the portal leading back up.

Finally made it through.

One...

Two! Two locks! Hah hah hah.

Cya basement 1. Was nice knowing you.

We're in the home stretch now. (also I took a death offscreen again. Confirmed Deaths: 17)

There's the banana! We'll be getting it very soon.

Last key of the dungeon.

Oh hey, remember this screen? It has a chest now. The water level rising carried up that platform, filling in the pit with it and bringing up a chest.

Heart Pieces found: 2/4! Nothing in this dungeon is permanently missable despite the floors being locked off permanently.

More of these guys!

Boss key get!

Let's get ready to ruuuuuumbleeeeeee!

Boss.mp3

Okay, so you ever play Zelda 1? You remember those patra guys, the big flying bats with rings of bats surrounding them exclusive to level 9, and some of them expanded and covered a wide portion of the screen with their bats?

This is basically a slime version of them, on crack.

Kunai is very effective here.

When you "kill" a segment, it leaves behind a slime enemy that'll jump towards you until you kill it, whi- eh? What's that Moosh icon doing there?

!?!?!?!?!?

Confirmed Deaths: 18

I actually walk all the way back to town to talk to Uncle Ben about this...

: Ooh! This is the Haribo Sugar Free Gummy Tech. It um... it makes you poop fire.
: To use it you press: Left, Right, Up, Down, Any direction, A

uhhhh...

Okay then.

Let's try it out!

(if the video doesn't embed properly, click here)

...Okay then. Why not.

No tech this time? Huh. Double damage is cool though.

That's the third (and possibly final) dungeon completed!

Also the save file screen is telling me I have 19 deaths. I... have no idea where else I died, but add one to the list I guess.

Death Count: 19, supposedly
Heart Pieces obtained: 14
Heart Pieces taunting: 2
Our Diet: Sugar Free

Next Time: We're Acoming for Akuma!
