Game 4: Gloucester @ Albinea
The latest in this Northern Fodlan rivalry takes us to the Seahawk’s territory. Albinea and Gloucester fought with Sreng for the best record of the month last month, and these two teams are currently duking it out for the 5th spot in the playoffs.
It started well for Knack 3, who has been a revelation for the Gloucester Gentlemen’s Recreational Club:
But Albinea came out playing hard defense, and attempted to slow down the charging GGRC:
Early on, it was clear that this game would be another physical ordeal for the two teams, with a lot of pushing and contact through shots:
It very quickly moved Gloucester’s way in the 1st:
Albinea couldn’t keep up, despite scoring a little near the end of the quarter.
Gloucester would lead, 22-11.
The 2nd quarter would be a low scoring affair, punctuated by some unique moments:
Albinea would start the scoring with this bizarrely open layup from Kipper:
Following it up with a huge block from Minge:
Which led to another huge score by Kipper:
But Gloucester would start to control the clock, and they slowed the game down and got big scores when they needed to.
And it looks like Gloucester is having a lot of fun during this recent positive run:
Such a supportive team, even when they miss free throws! (One of these things will be a theme in this game).
Albinea would actually keep up in this quarter, refusing to let themselves get any further down than they already were:
Only for the half to end with a big play by William Eyelashes:
He would hit the and 1 to tie the quarter.
Gloucester would maintain their 11 point lead, 40-28.
The GGRC would come out of halftime with an aggressive defense, designed to stifle Albinea and end the game:
But Albinea immediately adjusted, going for open shots in the mid-range area:
This opened up the game, and Albinea took advantage. They began cutting into the double digit lead.
Knack 3 and Duke PurchasingPower didn’t let all the momentum swing over, and prevented Albinea from taking the lead in the 3rd:
They also tried intimidating with some hard fouls:
But Albinea was coming back.
By the end of the 3rd, Albinea had cut the lead to 2 points.
Gloucester would lead, 53-51.
In what is becoming a recent theme for Gloucester, the player known as Put Me In, Coach!, would have a major impact in the late game:
His 3 put Gloucester up 8 early in the 4th, and forced Albinea to start taking worse shots late. They got within 4 with this dunk by Rimmy Tim:
And within 1 with this huge 3 by Bemp:
But two late shots with fouls would end this game:
None of the free throws were made, but they put Gloucester in the bonus, and even though they went 3-8 from the line, it was enough to hang on.
Gloucester survives, 72-67.
