Game 5: Nuvelle @ Friege

Oh boy, that crazy Travant! He sure loves his finger guns!

Fridge is healthy! Nuvelle is… sorta healthy. Regina George took a bump against Fhirdiad, and is limited in this game.

The story of this game is the story of Ishtar and her MVP Campaign that will surely fail when compared to Kronya, Edelgard, and Rhea.

She has been a force from the shooting guard position, and this game was no different:

Though, when you face the Mean Girls of Nuvelle, expect a few hip checks.

For better and worse, the game moved through Ishtar. Her best were made shots, but her worst:

She made quite a few mistakes: 6 turnovers, which are significantly over her 2.1 average.

Nuvelle took advantage of nearly every mistake:

The calming factor for Friege was, surprisingly, Julius, who has been mostly a non-factor this season:

The pace of the game started to speed up:

The 1st quarter ended with Friege up, 21-22.

The 2nd quarter started with yet another thing I’ve never seen before:

While I’m fairly sure the game can’t actually have the refs effect how the ball is shot, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a ref get in the way of a shot like that. I’ll leave it up to you, the viewers, if there was any actual interference.

Friege exploded off of this play:

Nuvelle struggled to keep up, and Friege would go into halftime up 43-57.

Nuvelle would start a furious comeback off of some intense defense:

Though the defensive play of the whole week might go to Kempf, with this amazing double block:

But the whole comeback was built around the injured Regina George:

Her presence in the 2nd half brought up the energy on the Nuvelle bench, and they slowly cut into the huge lead they allowed in the 2nd quarter.

The only person who seemed to have a good response for Friege was, of course, Ishtar:

But Nuvelle kept pushing the pace:

And while Friege got some good shots in:

The comeback was on:

However, that pace can hurt you, and at the end of the 3rd, Nuvelle missed a good opportunity to cut into the lead more:

Friege would fail to score, but the 3rd quarter would end with them up, 71-78.

Nuvelle kept the pace up to start the 4th quarter:

But the two teams would continually trade blows for most of the quarter:

Down 84-94 with 3 minutes left, the game looked over. Until Regina George stepped in:

8 points in 4 possessions, 1:21 taken off the clock. And the score is now 92-94.

Ishtar missed a huge 3 pointer in the next possession, 41 seconds left.

Cordelia Chase got a decent look in the lane, but:

Travant denies her at the last second! And in the ensuing possession:

The Ishtar to Julius connection finally pays off.

But Nuvelle wouldn’t quit:

Missy Pantone would hit the vital layup to get them within 2, and when Julius turned the ball over in the backcourt, Nuvelle had 18 seconds to tie the game.

Here they are:

Friege survives, 94-96.
