Turns out I wasn't on the latest version when I started this LP. I updated really early on in the intro, but I missed this.

If you play in the wrong version, the darkness gimmick of level 2 is shifted 56 pixels vertically visually, making the gimmick completely unplayable.

Alt story time.

K.

Most instances of Moosh and Akuma are swapped in the story. I'm only going to be showing the stuff that's more different than just the simple swap.

beariness

You never see Akuma outside of a host.

Same old intro.

Never mind, Xaya speaks up to snark.

Snarky.

Anyways, typing in the correct name will prevent your save file name from being changed.

Yes, please.

Ben leaves.

Oh, ice movement, my old friend.

Like I said, all references between the two halves are swapped. We won't be covering each and every one of these.

Uncle Ben is just chilling here, alone.

Oh look, it's Akuma!

...I'm told this is Laharl from Disgaea.

I don't have the energy to transcribe all this text. Russ wrote Xaya mode, and his writing style is

You might've noticed we skipped the foreshadowing cutscene and the visit to Xaya's father. Xaya mode is meant to jump right into the action. ...Which is why it's 200% more wordy than Finnigan mode.

Finnigan leaves. We already saw this, so I'm skipping till we get the staff. Actually, this update is mainly going to be change highlights, and we already know how Xaya plays, so we're skipping 90% of the game.

(there may be some cheating involved too :ssh

Exact same sequence as before, though it's Blood Magic Powers instead of Moosh Transformation Powers.

Xaya has an aura of darkness and drips blood with the powers activated. It's really cool!

Let's go visit Finnigan.

Orson is missing, but where he normally stands is solid. Weird.

We're getting the instakill ability early this time.

Blood techs have unique icons. 3 out of 5 techs are new; the Wind, Shield, and Saber techs have all been replaced with new techs.

Oh really?

Activating it causes a feather circle instead of a wind circle.

Okay, so as much as I wish I could screenshot, gif, etc what this does, this thing is too to waste it with anything less than a video. Words cannot describe how amazing this tech is, so...

It's

Flappy Moosh still exists. Look, I tried. I got 75/100 needed to get the flap tech. I just don't have the patience after wasting yet another hour on this. At this point, I was streaming my suffering in a discord call with other peeps and they were all just going "yeah cheat it in", so I did. Let it be said that I did not try.

It's the same item internally, but it has a different icon in the bottom right.

There's no difference. Lame.

Jumping forward to level 1, I failed this puzzle 7 times. Xaya movement makes it easy to fuck up puzzles. As one of members of the peanut gallery I had going said, "the Xaya life seems kinda annoying"

This room is actually awful.

You can lavafall any non-memory boss for an instakill

Shield tech got replaced!

Pretty neat.

During level 2, I had both of the creators of the quest join the peanut gallery. One of them encouraged me to try the Blood Lasso, and so I present to you the only commentated video that will every grace this Let's Play.

Christ my voice is awful. Let's never do this again.

I forgot to check Finnigan's dialogue at every point, but it does seem to update here.

This took 10 minutes of grinding this time as opposed to first try.

Wow, the ones I have to put the most effort in for end up yielding the least amount of changes. Lame.

This cutscene plays out pretty much the same, but with a more talkative protagonist.

The tone of the possessed character is different though.

Finnigan is clearly fighting against Moosh in this case.

Oh, caress off with that pun.

The shrouds of darkness have been replaced with shrouds of potassium. Amazing

So, last time I went through this place legit.

That's no fun. Sequence break a key here...

And sequence break here as well. Up here, if you remember, leads to both the boss door and boss key.

We're stuck here without the bow of light tho-

Sike.

We don't need no bow of progression.

Finnigan

Welp.

This isn't the fight from the postgame; it's just Xaya's fight reskinned.

Feather doesn't work sadly.

It's a very neat reskin though!

Shroud of potassium.

Yeah, he's gone completely bananas.

Cutscene after is completely the same; didn't even bother to swap the coloration of the sparkles.

Time to kill a god with no bow of light.

Russ was in the call and said "I like how Moosh had a 3 line explanation of what to do and I went, took it, and made it 9 lines".

The game just gave us a dummy bow of light.

Finnigan fires the bow from himself, which means the game doesn't need to check if you have the Bow of Light in this fight.

It uses his direction though, so you need to position him right.

So basically you can completely skip a dungeon item.

You already saw this cutscene in the postgame, so I'm skipping it.

Poor Xaya...

Seems like that paradox worked out alright.

And that's Xaya mode. I'm sorry I didn't do the usual character portrait thing; I'm just exhausted at this point. Xaya mode is a lot tougher than Finnigan mode because you die twice as fast and are more likely to fling yourself into a pit. Eventually I just resorted to cheating through dungeons to try and get some sleep that night.

I guess that's everything. Time to give my thoughts on this.
