Game 4: Ft. Merceus @ Plegia

One team is trying to climb up in the Southern Rankings, the other is trying to make it into the playoff conversation. Both Fort Merceus and Plegia have started to impress, with the former having one of the hardest schedules of the past month. Said Cavaliers had just beat Ylisse at the Anna Company Center, and the Wizards had dominated an overmatched Airmid by 45 points.

This game started with a dominant performance from Owain:

He scored 10 straight points, and Fort Merceus started by going 0-4 from the field. With Plegia leading 10-0, the game already looked lost, before the Cavaliers started to lock down on defense.

A 0-10 lead would stick for the quarter, with Plegia leading 14-25 by the end of it, but it was clear that momentum was starting to shift.

Plegia started the 2nd quarter scoring with Yarne, hitting a huge jumper:

On the other side, Fort Merceus was starting to get their ball movement together:

The 2nd quarter became a slugfest:

Led by the 16 points of Vier, Fort Merceus gained the upper hand in the quarter, and pulled themselves within two points.

With 2 seconds left in the half, Lucina made her first big play of the game:

Plegia would hold onto a 2 point lead at halftime, 46-48.

In a similar moment to Lucina’s block, Big Dennis would get his first block of the game in the first possession of the 3rd quarter:

Fort Merceus and Plegia would keep even with each other for most of the quarter:

And with 5 minutes left, Fort Merceus finally got the lead for the first time all game:

And that was when Lucina happened. In two straight possessions, she hit 2 three pointers:

And in the last minute of the quarter, Fort Merceus could only claw back a little bit:

The 3rd quarter ended with a 10 point Plegia lead, 62-72.

However, Fort Merceus still had a full comeback in their sleeves:

Only Owain could slow down the comeback:

And whenever Plegia would try to go on a run, Big Dennis was there to kill it:

A 7 point lead:

Became a 5 point lead:

Became a 2 point lead with 41 seconds left.

And then, the game just kind of ended. Fort Merceus let Plegia shoot off a bad 3 pointer, and the last shot of the game was just an airball that I didn’t bother to record. A game this good deserved overtime, but it was not meant to be.

Plegia survives and reaches 21-21, beating Fort Merceus 89-91. Their next game would be against Almyra, also 21-21. (I didn’t record this game for reasons, but I will record the Plegia v Almyra game near the end of the regular season, because I think it’ll be just as significant.
