Kaiser: Lee-Ann...I didn't want to meet up with you [again] like this.
Lee-Ann: Kaiser!
Kaiser: Don't say anything. In the past, I may have been nothing more than a puppet, but now, I face you out of my own will.
Leon: Stop! We don't have any reason to fight any more!
Kaiser: I've killed your friends and family, and you've defeated my elites. That's reason [enough].
Ophelia: Baruk is the mastermind behind the whole incident. If he's been defeated, then there's no need to fight!
Kaiser: I've already executed him as payback for his lies.
Fam: What?!
Kaiser: Nevertheless, I must fight as well. No matter what other people think of me, this is the path I have chosen. Come! This will be our final battle!
(Kaiser summons in minions.)

Stage 24: His Own Plans

Link to full battle

The path winds slowly up to Kaiser, causing Brian, T. T. and Lee-Ann to lag behind (though I still manage to get a level for T. T. because he can cast buffs).

Ralph picks up the first on-field treasure, an item that restores 100 MP.

Brian hits level 20 and learns "Meet and Greet", a massive AOE attack centered on himself, and because I included Kaiser in an AOE, I trigger his taunt a bit earlier than I intended.

Lee-Ann: Kaiser! Stop! I beg of you!
Kaiser: Let's see which one of us will win! If I'm the victor, then I will awaken the demon god and destroy the world! If you don't want that to happen, then defeat me!

Kaiser's stats and description: "Possessing four elites, [he is] Turuk's highest commander. Both his attack power and magical prowess are quite astounding".

Marcia picks up the other item, a full HP/MP restore, and I kill off the other minions to make sure I'm not missing anything. Then I feed the kill to Ophelia so she can level up and have enough MP to cast her most powerful spell.

Lee-Ann: Kaiser...why!?
Kaiser: Lee-Ann...forgive me.
Leon: Kaiser...you were planning to lose, weren't you? Why? Did you not have any desire to awaken the demon god?
Kaiser: Don't jump to conclusions...I didn't do it on purpose...I only lost because I was too weak...
(Beat)
Lee-Ann: Kaiser, let's go home, to where father used to live...it's all over now...
Kaiser: Lee-Ann...
(There's a distant rumble, and everyone looks around)
T. T.: What was that? I heard a noise...
Ralph: An e-earthquake!
Ophelia: N-no! It can't be!
(The camera pans upward and Baruk is there, one knee down as he props himself up with his sword.)
Leon: Baruk! You're still alive??
Baruk: Heheheh...I may be incorrigible...but even if I die, I shall take you and this world with me!
Ophelia: He can't be thinking of using his own life to...! Oh no! Somebody stop him at once!
Baruk: Too late! You'll die with no one to bury you, in terror and despair! Hahahahahaha!
(He raises his sword and the screen fades to black.)

Stage 25: The End of the Road

Marcia: Where...are we?
T. T.: It's as if we're suspended among the stars...
Ophelia: I believe this is the legendary demon world.
Fam: What! And this...unbearable suffocating sensation!
Ralph: Me too...and what's that weird sound?
Karen: Grampa! It's scary!
Brain: Karen! Don't wander off!
Leon: Something...something's approaching!
Lee-Ann: Watch out! Everyone duck!
(The screen flashes white)

Fam: W-w-what is this thing!?
T. T.: It's...huge!
Ophelia: This is...the demon god...
Leon: Terrorhook!?
Ralph: Looks like quite the tough customer!
Brian: Even if we can't beat it, we have to keep it in this realm, or we'll be doomed.
Marcia: Then let's go all out!

I forgot to show off some of the character's special skills in the main recording, so I went back and grabbed some gifs.

Brian's Meet and Greet:

Ophelia's Mermaid [summon]:

Back to the battle at hand. This is definitely a final boss, all right. Look at the size of that thing! And that awful animation!

Boss stats are as follows:

(Description: One of many evil gods who rules the dark demon realm. It is said that those who gaze upon that terrifying visage will die from fright.

(Description: A weapon that can be said to be one of Terrorhook's avatars. Floating above Terrorhook's sholder, it can attack with water, earth, and dark/fire, wind, and dark magic.)

Terrorhook also has two cannons that can fairly potent AOE damage, so I don't draw things out and instead end it as quickly as possible.

T. T.: Did we defeat that creature...?
Brian: I believe so...but there doesn't seem to be any change, either.
Marcia: Are we trapped here?
Ophelia: Looks like it...
(Beat)
Karen: Grampa... [img]https://lpix.org/sslptest/Smilies/emot-cry.gif">
Brian: It'll be all right, Karen. Stay with grampa.
Karen: Ok...
(Beat)
Fam: Ralph...are we to stay here for the rest of our lives, with no one knowing [where we went]?
Ralph: ...I'm here. So, please get a hold of yourself.
(Beat)
Fam: Indeed...I apologize.
(Beat. Leon walks forward and the camera pans with him)

Leon: Lee-Ann...are you all right?
Lee-Ann: Leon...
Leon: How's Kaiser...?
Lee-Ann: ......
Leon: I see...
Lee-Ann: Is it all over?
Leon: Yeah. But, we're...
(Beat; after this point, the text advances automatically; unfortunately, something's messed up the timing, so now some of the dialogue accidentally overlaps)
Kaiser: D...don't give up just yet...
Lee-Ann: Kaiser?
Kaiser: The door that was opened...can be closed using the same key...but as I am, I can't do anything at all...
Lee-Ann: Please lend me your strength, Kaiser.
Leon: Lee-Ann?
Lee-Ann: I'm so happy to have met you...to know that I have a brother who shares my lineage.
Leon: Me too. I never imagined that I had a little sister.
Lee-Ann: I've always dreamed of everyone...humans and monsters...living together, but...
Leon: Huh?
Lee-Ann: I...like Leon...and everyone [else] as well...so I'd like all of you to go on living.
Leon: What are you saying? You aren't...
Lee-Ann: Thank you...and farewell...
Leon: Lee-ann!? No, don't!

What a journey Leon's been on! Starting from what he thought to be a simple outing, he ended up being caught up in the very fate of the whole world. That sort of journey would give anybody pause once they have the time to think things over.

What's he to do now? Where should he go?

Wait, hold on...

...and that's it for the main plot! The save prompt pops up, and the next time we load it'll basically be a victory lap from the party as they revisit old locations and tackle the bonus dungeon.

Next time: Starting the post game.
