Update 39: Arrival

Oh uh, whoops. Forgot to hand this report in, eheheh.
Having those funds earlier would have been nice, but no harm done I guess.

Money money! So uh, what do we do now?
Same thing as we always do I suppose.
Wipe out any dragons hiding in Eden!
After all, just because all the Imperials are dead doesn’t mean the smaller dragons are gone.

I suppose it’s back to work for us.
A Hunter’s job is never truly done. So, where should we begin?
Phaedna Hollow I suppose. We never really did investigate that place, and we still need to find that herb.

If you notice, we’ve killed almost half the dragons in the game. Once you’ve handed in 3 Imperial Dragon mission reports or you’ve killed at least 333 dragons, you’re good to go for late-game.

Then let’s head on over there!

Once the conditions for late-game are fulfilled, just exit to the world map to trigger it.

The upcoming cutscene has a few translation mistakes, and rather than bog that down with footnotes containing corrections, any such sections will simply be silently rewritten. So if you notice any differences between what is transcribed here and the actual video, consider that the reason why. And consider the transcribed version to be what was actually meant to be said.

Video: Niara’s Arrival

Localized in VFD as Nyala.

With the reduction in Dragons, the Bloom has been pared back a bit. The credit for these accomplishments is substantially theirs. The war is winnable without using... it. A weapon that would lay waste to our world. It is an evil thing. If we don't need it...
...Don't need it? Doing this from the very start would've avoided all this pain. The Dragons will kill every living thing in the universe for all eternity. I understand this better than anyone.
.........

Music stops.

...? What's that noise?

The sound of a high pitched whirring is heard.

Is this an omen of the Dragons?

What a terrifying tower...

...But, we must win! Whatever the cost!

The king walks off.

This is...!

Ladies and gentlemen. I am one of the seven True Dragons. The third to be precise. Niara is my name.

Where Imperial Dragons were among the top dogs of dragons, True Dragons are an even greater step beyond that. As they are literally gods.

I've been waiting millennia for this!

Your civilization is now at its choicest ripeness. This is why we are here; to pluck, pillage and devour every human being.

I don't know... But these are mortal enemies to humanity.

What the hell is going on!?
Stay calm now!
Ni... ar... a... Ngh! No, it couldn’t be...

Menas, do you have any idea what we can do!?
Please, go see Lady Emille at once! You've got to find out if she has some kind of countermeasure.
Okay. Everyone, move out!
Right!

And do what? Sit and wait to die? We don’t have any other choice.
B, but...
Go tell the Rushe King to fire whatever he's got!
U-understood!...!

Faro leaves.

Lady Emille! We can use their help to find another way!
Another wa- just what do you have planned this time!?
I've told you it's pointless. Nothing from your planet can scratch him.
What are you saying?

Faro comes back.

They agreed to fire the cannon. It's currently being armed!

Lady Emille...?
I've been waiting a long time for this.
Wh-what’s with the laughter?
Why am I laughing? Because this is what I've been living for.

Now, activate the cannon. Put the hammer to that bastard once and for all!
We can't! Not that weapon!

We must be the light of judgment to clear a way for those to come. We will pass on the torch!

Let’s do it.

One by one, all the Rushe enter the structure.

And Odyssey! Goodbye!

Feel free to struggle hopelessly if you like. But it's a pointless exercise. Nothing can harm us.

What's with this?! The output... It's not quite enough! He's not gone... yet!

Wait. This civilization... I remember it. I can still taste that mellow flavor.

Now I know why we're having trouble with this planet. You were involved. I admit, I didn't expect you to actually wound me. But it will only augment my strength in the end. Hypnos, though? Hah! I certainly didn't expect to see you ever again!

Nevan, on my order! Fire again!
Impossible! They're spent. There's no more energy...
No! If we miss this chance, we'll never get another!

Haze! Get over here!

What in blazes is this? Niara was wounded somehow?
I have always preferred a little light entertainment with my dinner. But until mealtime, I had better play it safe and retire to recuperate. Won't you step in for me and destroy this world?
So that's it, huh? I'll gladly take part.

But do you know what's next, little people of the world you liked to call Hypnos? Just like I did your home, I'll annihilate every trace of Eden and its people.

...
Odyssey... I would like you to attend the meeting as well. Please come to the 2nd floor hall.
...Understood.

Let’s head straight on over.

Come in...

...Yes. With Nevan's help, we bombarded Niara with immense force. We were able to repel it, but not to completely destroy the Dragon. After summoning Haze, Niara retreated to attack again later. We must find a way to find and assault it during its retreat. This Haze has settled in the Valorian Wood south of Miross. The Bloom is rapidly spreading from there.
What are our odds?
Based on available data, my calculation is... .........

I’d assume our odds for defeating Haze are even more minuscule, given that he wasn’t even in the blast.
That... That can’t be right! Just how strong are these True Dragons!?
Far far stronger than you can imagine. I’m... I’m not even sure if we even stand a chance against them.
How do ya even know all... Oh. Well, I guess ya’ve got a lot of explaining to do later.
Is... Is there even anything we can do to those dragons!?
We must attack with the cannons again, immediately.
Are you mad!? That barely worked the first time around! And at what cost!? Even after all this time, the Rushe are still nothing more than tools to you...
Not to mention there’s still Haze to worry about!
What you say won't work. We've proven that alone won't stop him.

What?!
Did. Did I hear her right?
Ya can’t be serious...
A thousand people, ten thousand... No! We'll need everyone alive to kill this thing!
Wha... What the hell is wrong with you!? You want to sacrifice the entire planet just to kill the dragons!?
That would basically be the same thing as letting the dragons kill us all!
This is madness! Killing the Dragons at the cost of humanity is no victory at all!
What a thing to say! You know nothing! These Dragons devoured my world! The ground, the life, everything! I won't forgive them! Ever!
Even though they did all that, what you’re suggesting would do the same thing to our world!
Lady Emille...

A pause.

Nowari... I don’t think we can reason with her anymore at this point.
She’s made her position as clear as day. And we’ve all made ours clear.

...What? You dare betray me, Nowari?!
I am no traitor, and I will not betray humanity. I will not throw their lives away for victory.

Emille struggles for a while.

YOU!!!

The scholars escort her out of the room.

I-I’m sure we can! We have to...
Without Lady Emille, there will be unrest...
What we need now is a born leader.
I take it you have a candidate in mind?
We'll go to Kazan. We'll fall apart unless Menas takes charge!

Sweet! Let’s take it for a spin already!

If you finished the Invisible mission before this point, the airship is now unlocked. If not, you’ll have to finish that mission to obtain it.

Understood. Wait just a minute.

Now that we have the airship, there are NPCs around the world that will call the airship to their location in case you lost track of it, or you left it in a spot too inconvenient to reach.

Now if you’ll look on the bottom screen...

quote:

You’ll notice that 2 massive Bloom infestations took place. One on the island with the Rainbow, and one that reinfected the Valorian Wood.

The Valorian Wood was a little minor side dungeon with 4 Serpentines in it. Said dungeon wasn’t actually reinfected, it has been replaced with an entirely different dungeon. Though there was nothing of value that was truly lost. If you didn’t bother killing them before the arrival of the True Dragons, they would actually get killed and removed from the dragon counter.

But enough about that, we’ve got an entire airship to ourselves! Let’s ride!

The airship incurs some new benefits to us. Because it’s airborne, we can now travel wherever we want on the world map! The world is our oyster! There’s also no encounters at all while you’re flying, so it’s a far more convenient way of moving around.

...Can’t this hunk of junk go any faster!?
Sorry Ark, but it doesn’t look like they fully repaired this after all. It’s functional, but the engine doesn’t seem to be in good enough condition to output at full power.
Then maybe we should get someone else to take a look at it?

Unfortunately, the airship is slow as molasses! Fortunately this isn’t permanent, as there’s a sidequest you can take on to upgrade its speed. We won’t be doing that sidequest in this update though. But until that sidequest is done, it makes using the airship a rather unattractive prospect as getting around with it takes a really fucking long time!

So that’s the fabled rainbow, huh?
And it’s guarding the tower. We won’t be able to enter that structure with the rainbow in the way. And don’t try to kill it. We attempted to do so and failed miserably.

The rainbow’s true purpose is now revealed to us. It’s now guarding this dungeon, as we can’t enter that with it in the way. Unfortunately, even now, we are incapable of killing the rainbow. So it’ll have to live for now.

Incidentally, the only restriction the airship has aside from its slow speed is that it can’t land on tiles the party can’t walk on (so the mountains and the ocean), and it can’t land in forests. Fortunately that last penalty isn’t really relevant and never seriously comes into play. Now let’s head on over to Menas.

Niara has already dealt with Hypnos. That's right out. Even with the help of Lady Emille, I don't know that we can...
.........
Please, Menas. There has to be something you can come up with to help us.

Wh-what did you just say!?
The hell is a Tokyon?
Eh?
The President said that before the Dragons came. A woman from Tokyon warned him about them. I don't know what it means. However, it's a lead.
No way... The forbidden base of Tokyon is real?
You've heard of it?
Yes... Emille's name was written on the materials I saw about it. An ancient civilization is sleeping everywhere on this world.
I see. There may well be a clue hidden there. However, how to get there? We don't even know where it is.
Lady Emille... may know. Odyssey... Will you come meet with Lady Emille? I betrayed her, and she probably won't listen to me. But you?
I suppose it’s worth a shot. Not like we have anything else to go on.
Let’s uh hope she’s willing to work with us after what we said. Where is she now?
She's in Pleroma West, Underground Cells. Please, do this for me.
We will. It’s our only chance at this point.

...To think it’s survived after all this time.
So, Telos. Do you know about this “Tokyon?”
Ha. How could I not? It’s where I was born. Yes, over five thousand years ago, it was my home.
Wait wait, we’re not going to have to go straight into hell for this, would we?
No no, you misunderstand. I... wasn’t always a demon. Back then, I was nothing more than an ordinary young woman.
I see. When exactly did this all come back to you?
Ya can’t have remembered everything that fast, could ya?
...It was around when Niara arrived, wasn’t it?
Yes, part of those memories came rushing back when I heard his name. Though a lot from back then is still rather vague to me. I’m sorry.
Don’t beat yourself up over it. Several thousand years worth of memories is a ton to sort through. That’s like what, over the lifetimes of like 50 people or something?
It’s okay. Maybe a talk with Emille and going to Tokyon will jog some more memories.

Let’s head on over to Pleroma.

Not particularly. Your current state is more pitiable than anything.
I am in misery. I have the power to slay Niara, but I'm stuck in a cell.
Perhaps you can still assist us on that front.
You wouldn’t happen to know how to reach a place called Tokyon, would you?
What's that? You want to go to Tokyon?
Yes, it’s our only shot at dealing with those True Dragons. You have to know something!
... Has anyone in this age ever heard the word "gobstopper"? It was a measure against the voracious Dragons; thus, the name.

This was mistranslated into a non-sequitur. Not sure what a gobstopper is here. It's actually supposed to be:

Do you remember why Niara said "he was having trouble with this planet?" This planet survived several dragon invasions in the past, hence his statement.
So this world really did survive multiple invasions!
And Tokyon was involved in a previous invasion, then?
Tokyon was a city of war, now trapped in another dimension... There are certainly things you need there. But... ... No, there's a chance it could crush the Dragons. I have to bet on you.

And you'll need this to make your way in.

Go south of Kazan to Gororan's house and see Aitelle, a woman there. The rest is up to you. Well, go on!
Thank you. ...We should go.

Her name was localized as Aytel in VFD.

Odyssey leaves.
