S01E22: The Armpit of Ire.

So, we return to the Adventurer's Counter in the North Tangar Hills.

You just know this quest will be a pain in the ass cos of Random jinxing it here.

Carin here, is too scared of fire elmentals to do the quest she was hired to do.

As Luci points out, not everyone is as immune to magic as Coryool (she jumps in with this fact when Sarah starts to insult Coryool)

We better not be doing this for free.

Anyway here's the description of the very fancy gem we need to find.
She also adds it will probably be obtained via a boss fight.

Me either.

Guanidia is the smartest member of the party. The smart ones are meant to be Luci, Herasia, (later) Sandy and to a lesser extent, Wendie, but it's Guanidia.

Carin gives us her full name at the end, and also a map to the Pit.

It's not even a full screen away from the Adventurer's Counter. You can see it from the Counter.

First things first... Boulder pushing puzzle!!

Okay, not really much of a puzzle.

Anyway, this is like a big empty room. The only thing of note besides the boulders and the big hole is this. And this doesn't matter.

I go and jump down the hole.

We find ourselves in a new area. A very small new area.

The uh... enemy names here are -something-. The Thytobf are hidden behind Bombbaz there.

Neither are much of a threat. Bombbaz are worth 99 XP and have a low chance to drop an amethyst. Thytobf can drop the same at the same rate and are worth 24XP. Thytobf are such nonthreats they do not even have much over 100HP and just about anyone can oneshot all of them one way or another.

Bombbaz are somewhat durable though. A lot of the enemies are are way too durable.

...

We have to Egress out of there.

... And push the boulders again.

We jump into the hole again, but one tile lower than before.

We're in another small area but there's somewhat more worthwhile treasure this time.

This end of the walkway has a room with this chest... and the other end has another treasure room.

Sarah says it's not even worth 1 GP. We'll see more than one fake like this during the dungeon.

... Yes.

Tower O' Fire are nothing, but have a low chance of dropping Mithril and are worth 60XP.

We Egress again.

And we push boulders again.

This time we push this boulder out of the way so we can drop on the bottom tile and yes the boulder does not fall for some reason. Got magic floating boulders here.

If we enter the cave immediately above us we come to another treasure room.

...

You can also see one of the fake gems above the chests. Next to it is a regular ass Diamond that we nick.

...

Mass' O Fire's are also nothing enemies. Low chance to drop amethysts and are worth 68XP.

Back in the prior, main room...

These are meant to be trap doors, so we can walk on them.

I head north and... these two red flames here march back and forth and bounce off each other, endlessly.

Lots of braziers.

There's a main door way but it's a sort of a deadend for the moment.

Instead, we want this doorway to the west.

We specifically want this part of the hole here.

Woo! But you know what this means?

Yep!

This time we want the tile to the right of Random.

quote:

"Two: Powerful gems not only give the best transformations, they have a better potent for stocking energy, resulting in new spells, skills, and a safier transformation"

"Three: Fire Elementals mustn't use the Gem-Morphing without wisdom or knowledge, due to an uncontrolled "weird morphing" hazard."

"Respecting these 3 rules will lead the Fire Elementals society to gain new powers and quickly install them as important rules of the Deport."

"The Pit of Fire will soon be a Capital town of our country."

Neither Luci nor Sarah are happy to hear about this.

These two though...

This button here opens the lab (?) doors. If we left now, we'd find this is past the main doorway we ignored. There's also a switch down there, you might have noticed. I believe that's what opens the trap doors from earlier.

Back in the lab, the real gem we're after is on the table.

First we have to fight a Bombbaz duo...

Malushi. Malushi.

quote:

Malushi (created, abnormal creature)
The Malushi was once a normal Fire Elemental, but turned to an unstable and distorted creature due to experimentation failures.
Beware its great power, however !

It's a real monster of HP and that's about it. We dominate it. Takes a few turns though.

Sarah wants to steal the gem, it's so beautiful and Luci tells her off.

Wendie has a laugh about it.

We Egress out and head back to the Adventurer's Counter. Yeah, short dungeon for this game.

She says she hopes the pit was not too hard and Random's response is:

??????????????????????

Anyway, Carin says she shall go and give the gem to her lord and that she will be back later.

I was about to say same place same counter would be the exact same thing twice, but no there's a counter upstairs too.

Anyway, Carin departs.

What.

Sack based reservations????

No it's not it's just confusing.

We come back here to PUSH BOULDERS AGAIN

This time we go down the trapdoor.

Sure is!

There's also gems just lying around here. You can't see them here but you will later.

And a bunch of these.

Malushi are a random encounter down here.

So is the double Bombbaz fight.

The second floor of The Pit of Fire is extremely linear. It spirals inwards. The north of the outer most layer has a few of these gem penatacles in one part.

Also there's two books here that are just a repeat of the sign upstairs, everyones comments on them to boot, which makes looking at these two books very annoying.

... To skip random encounters, stand up and shout McDonalds!

Again, except for being tanks, these guys can't really do much of note.

Next, my favourite enemy in the game confronts us.

She (?) serves as great foreshadowing for some of the enemy designs in Laxius Force. So do the other fires tbh.

Also I posted all the enemies in this dungeon to the aldorlea discord and Indy kept making the same joke that no one will get until we get to Laxius Force 2. Except for Oswaldo here, he said he'd hit it. In fact, more than a few different people on different discords said that when I showed it to them... And I gotta say, I agree. She's pretty... hot.

Almon the Freeze Mage was a pretty cool guy.

PAY BACKS A BITCH HUH

Anyway! Oswaldo though, is an exception to the enemies here being tanky. Like the Thytobf, she's fragile (not THAT fragile tho) so I have no idea of what her capabilities are.

She can drop Rainbow Diamonds at a 1/20 chance (all the enemy gem drops here are 1/20) and is worth 114XP.

There's also a way out here, but it's unneeded as you can Egress.

Haha. Anyway these guys are assholes. They're tanks both in that they have high defenses, seem to resist every element I tried and have a lot of HP. They can also put out some nasty spells. Running into one is no big deal though.

Running into 3... I nearly game over a couple times during this one battle. And it goes for a while. Though I will admit I had taken them a bit lightly and had not done my buffing/debuffing routine in this fight. Probably would be much easier to survive but not kill, in that case. Thankfully you can usually run from them. And I do, from then on.

They are worth 600XP (!) and can drop a Diamond.

Hahahaaha. MEGABOB

These guys are just HP tanks really. At least, they never did anything I took any real notice of.

424XP and can drop Emeralds.

In the centre of the spiral is a wide cavern with a lake of lava. The only thing of note is this lit up as fuck doorway.

It takes us to a straight hallway that has a bunch of side rooms that are either devoid of anything of interest or have a bunch of gems lying around.

Stand up and shout Dark Chaos McDonalds!

Anyway, again, tanky. These are probably -supposed- to be the toughest enemies here, but at Level 50? Eh. I do remember having to heal a lot here last time I played this part though. Sarah in particular is weak to fire.

Worth 638XP and can drop a Aurora Diamond(!)

Sarah gets excited about finding lots of gems.

Then Luci wonders why there's so much of the cheapo gems lying around.

Hahahaha. Bombbis. BOMBBIS!

Another non-threatening tank. 675XP and can drop a Sky Diamond.

At last, we enter a small cavern.

As we walk around the lava pool, a ruckus begins!!!!!

I didn't leave anything out here, it's this disjointed in the game and our heroes offer no response.

And yeah, no real boss enemy. We just fight a bunch of enemies. No Doom Towers means that it's a cinch.

We just wiped out a fledgeling people! WOOOOOO! Go Team Adventurer-Genocide!

Leanda says it was scary and Random says LEANDA'S RIGHT LETS NOT LOSE OUR BRAVERY (?????????????????????? She said it was scary, Random!)

Let's examine our real rewards for this whole ordeal.

Guanidia's best weapon.

Bunch of treasure and shit.

A small one map area with one of the superbosses. This is the one added by one of the fan-made addons, to be exact.

Herasia's best... weapon? He usually uses Claws. Maybe it's a helmet for him. We'll find out before long.

Carin's back and she got paid 20k, which she offers half of to us.

But she insists, and so the party accepts this essentially negligible reward. At least we got paid for our labour. So that's the Pit of Fire. The last few dungeons tend to be pretty short and/or linear, as you can see.

Anyway. I was planning on ending this update with some smaller bits and bobs here and there, but I think we'll leave this a short-ish update and do that next time, this update's already late enough. I've actually had most of this written up all week but was too lazy to do the last bit.

Two dungeons, some bosses, 10k battles and like two sidequests left, I believe. Oh, and the like three different tournaments.
