S02E04: Midnight Shenanigans!

Last update, we ended with Wendie arriving via snail mail of all things.

You may remember, though, that Thomas had requested Random meet him for a duel that night in the cemetary. So that's where we're picking up. That very night.

When Random gets up, Guanidia is already waiting for him and insists on coming despite Random's reluctance. They don't even bug Wendie because of how tired she is.

Now that the kid that always hides back here is gone, we can get this from behind Randoms house.

The stores and the schools are closed...

But the Church of Sariis is open.

We won't be investigating this too closely. Of the third nun, there is no sign.

We also steal a book on the floor for some reason.

We go around and down the stairs behind the altar.

The only two things of note down here are this statue and a grate. The statue leads to a debate about whether or not Sariisians would have a statue of a nude, kneeling Yveen (whom they hate) in their basement.

Guanidia is not amused by Randoms suggestion that the possible Yveen statue may be intended to be displaying submission to Sariis.

Meanwhile, through the grate, we see something suspicious we can't do anything about.

We go back upstairs and grab this.

And then crawl through this grate in the wall.

The key opens this chest...

But not this door.

But by going around we can see in here and marvel at a weird room that makes a hell of a racket. AFAIK there's no way in, you can only run along the windows and look.

We leave the church and start heading towards the cemetary.

Making a brief stop at the market building to get some obscure loot.

Thomas and co. literally leap out of the bushes, and Thomas starts talking about how the Deport is a dangerous land and how giant scorpions come out at night in the cemetary.

Guanidia suggests leaving but...

Anyway, this is an easy fight. Random Spin Attacks everyone, and then Guanidia casts Carnivor Water to finish them off. Does some nice damage, actually.
So we win in one turn.

Thomas and his goons flee.

Yep. Now we're free to go home and take a nap. Except...

We can also fight that scorpion! It's the only one here that I saw. Also easy.

Now we're free to go home and take a nap. Except...

The building here with the closed door is still closed, but because it is night, Random has no problem opening the door.

Inside, Random somehow knows he can push this grave aside to reveal a way down. Guess he has as strong a adventuring instinct as I do.

Going down takes us to a dungeon I'm -pretty- sure is optional. You can leave the cemetary and go most of the way home, I didn't check if Random stops you at the last second at the bed or something.

I was going to cover this dungeon in more depth, but really, there's barely anything in it.

First we go over to that ladder on the left.

It takes us to a new area, where we find Guanidia is just scared of coffins, period.

We run into some new enemies. You might think this is a complete pushover fight... and you'd be half-right. They have a lot of HP and defend a lot, but don't do all that much damage. The fight takes way too long to be worth it, and I flee it every time after the first.

After getting just a bit less than 1k GP and two antidotes, we go back down the ladder.

And find a way further down.

Also, the scorpions are a random encounter here.

Guanidia gets more panicky the deeper we go.

And we hear weird noises.

This is one of only two remotely good bits of loot down here. The rest might as well be nothing.

So we've got a grave using AD, hm. Random says that this is a gloomy story and Guanidia bizarrely says it's not as gloomy as Random's dumb comments?

Uh huh.

Just past that grave we find this stuff. No ghost to be seen.

We hear the noise a third time, and Guanidia freaks out so much that he spills the beans on a story he heard of this crypt being haunted by ghosts hunting for blood.

I love this phrasing.

Random just says he'd want to know why the ghost is haunting a crypt then.

Might realise it likes slime glue too though.

We move on.

And after we read this, a ghost appears and Guanidia freaks out and asks why Random isn't scared.

lol

The ghost drops some cryptic nonsense and then much more clearly tells Random to meet her at dawn at Dock V tomorrow. Then she floats back up into the ceiling.

lol

look who's talking

Anyway, Egress doesn't work here, so we have to walk all the way back out.

And go home.

Early dawn at eight?

Random is good to go, at the wee hours of 8am, and he is shocked that Wendie is already up and apparently in the kitchen (according to the slime).

Guanidia, though, chastises Random for waking up so late and we get some fantastic Random Logic here:

Anyway, I think I'll leave this update here. A short one to get back into the swing of things. I've been back from my trip to my parents for a week, but I still feel like I haven't fully settled down and gotten back into my old habits.

Next time, we have a date with a ghost! And I think another duel? And we'll finally be able to speak to Wendie.
