S02E06: Post-Modern Poetry

Mere hours after I posted the last update, Indy opened a new discord channel for Laxius Soul and updated the Aldorlea forum and main page with new graphics to hype up Laxius Soul, so I suppose it is finally coming for real this time. Kind of funny timing.

Posted some teaser screenshots too.

The new forum banner... has some new character art in it.

Random looks so... so... tired. I suppose it is justified after 'The Worst Two Weeks of Your Life' he goes through in LP3, and then the complete nightmare of Laxius Force, from both a gameplay and story perspective. Both intentionally and unintentionally on the authors part.

But we're not up to all that yet!

We're still with starry-eyed psycho teen Random.

We got our reward for the golem genocide!!!

Weird. Maybe I've interpreted this relationship incorrectly. Maybe Wendala is fond of Guanidia but he disregards/avoids her? Or maybe she's just being down on herself. Well, that's something to keep an eye out for.

Anyway, nothing else commands our attention right now, so we tell Wendala to wash and then head to school.

Chaz! apparently beat Gaor-Gaban!

And Der Kechavel, the headmaster, is not in his office.

So we can steal this. Woo!

I feel bad for you, but you're useless.

Good luck, Mike!

Anyway, Der Kerchavel has a speech prepared for us.

Leona gets pissy at Random for saying Thank you, saying Thats all you have to say??? That means a lot from Der Kechavel!!!

Then Der Kerchavel starts going on about how the school is becoming more famous because of how good this years trainees have been (?????)

Roman then says we need to prepare our own supplies for the trial which is taking place -tomorrow-.

Roman tells Thomas to shut the fuck up.

Sorry, Cecil.

the proper term is manlet lets not insult dwarfs and dwarves here dude

Good luck, Mike!!!!

Leona pressgangs a reluctant Random to check out what they could possibly be doing on Lane Road.

Leona informs us Lane Road is how you 'leave Tyrine and enter the Lands.' Random is still wondering why they're here.

There's a ding when Leona rushes over to this barrel.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kXGgRh5KI6w

We know from long hard experience.

Leona wants to move along.

They interrogate the merchant a little and move on having learned nothing.

After she says this, Leona runs back to the sign near the merchant to confirm that road does in fact lead to the Low Lands and then she comes back. Or, at least, I think thats what she was checking. She doesn't say what she was checking, just that she's checking something.

Just a couple seconds up the road, it comes to an end.

I see that the entirety of the Deports greatest Brain Trust is onscreen right now.

Then she says the manor reminds her of old souveneirs and then says:

?????????????????????????????

Was that written on some old souveneirs??? Or is that unrelated news you happen to know?

Also, if Lane Road is mean to lead to the Lands then why does it terminate at the manor.

Well, whatever. That's the end of this scene.

Yep. They learnt nothing of value whatsoever. Completely pointless scene. And so it ends.

We go right to bed.

In the morning, Random questions Guanidia, and he lies and just says he was wandering Tyrine.

We give Wendala her chores (and she bemusedly wonders at the fact that she's been here for months and Random hasn't even tried to put the moves on her, which she seems to lack any interest for anyway) and rather than being taken outside... We are forced to the Tyrine shops. I buy some restoratives and leave.

Which takes us directly here.

Good luck, Mike~!!!!!!!!!!

lol

Even if that's so, we're not going up directly against them so don't worry us for nothing CHAZ!

So, yeah, this is basically a wargame. A simulated storming of Gothwick Manor.

Each party is doing it one at a time, and we're up first.

Here we go.

Crusader's aren't anything special, but they do have high Defense and at least 1000+ HP. It makes them a bit durable. This is the terrible thing about this dungeon.
Also that Chaz! is useless as anything but a possible diversion for enemy attacks.
He does have Water Beam though, perhaps explaining how he managed to beat Gaor-Gaban.

Gotta grab this...

We ignore those other soldiers for the moment.

Random and Leona discuss the idea that this guy is probably playing a role in Roman's scenario.

Statistically he's better than both the strongpoints of Leona and Chaz! but his attack is still a bit low to be real effective on enemies here.

Love the fact he has G-Wave though!

Paladins don't seem much different from Crusaders. I'd bet they heal themselves but I killed them so fast I never saw such a thing.

There's just one crusader to take out here, and we return to the previous room.

Metal Masters seem to have sky high defenses. Even Random doesn't do much damage with his normal attacks.
They can also heal themselves for about 250HP.
And they can also motivate themselves and their allies... which actually debuffs our partys resistances.

From here, I won't bore you with a super indepth run through of this dungeon. It's pretty big and there's just not much to say about most of it.
Just kill lots of enemies guarding doors, and visiting rooms with no purpose but to house enemies we need to kill for a better score.

Though there are some things to grab lying around.

Another key in another room. The skeleton key opens a chest in the same room that has a scroll that casts the Ulm Overcraft or w/e it's called spell.

????

Who the fuck only gets a 30 page diary

The stairs at the north of this fancy area lead back down to the entry, which I clear out.

Then we head up to the third floor.

Immediate ambush, but oh well. The third floor is like a big weird tiered room with three levels for some reason.

There's also random encounters in this dungeon. I did not mention them earlier because the encoutner rate is so low that it took until now for me to get one.

No one can even equip this!

And we beat up two waves of three knights for the right to drink their tea.

Steal a stat item...

And get fucking rebuked by Yveen for looking too much into things in Laxius Power of all things. The sheer nerve. I hate you Yveen.

But its also kind of funny, since this is a bit of a self-defeating message.

Jump down a hole...

So we can steal more treasure.

fethers

Woo! I'm giving all the stat items to Random immediately btw.

gold is gold.

And the small key has its use on the mandatory path.

You have to walk directly south to find a secret area.

A prophecy... a slime...

Kind of an odd thing to say, considering what happens in Laxius Power 3...

Also there's a weapon no one can use hidden in the wall here. It's a pain to find because this secret wall area is designed to be in the corner of this map so the screen doesnt move while youre running around inside it, so you have no idea if you're moving or not. That goes for even just trying to leave Gothwicks room.

We're never gonna stop finding junk that exists solely to sell, huh.

Then a guy charges us on his damn horse. Indoors. He doesn't look like a damn gnome paladin to me, so I don't know how he's getting away with this.

He can inflict berserk and actually cna hit pretty hard to everyone but Random. But if Random is berserk, which he is pretty susceptible to, then he does get hit pretty hard. But the fight doesn't really require all that much thought.

In the next room, we run into... this thing, which I suppose is pulling a reverse You Shall Not Pass on us.

Uhm... Is this the real deal? And if it is, is it also playacting? On the map, and at the start of battle, it growls like a dog.

Also...

You have to fight it twice, to kill it. It double-hits AND does a lot more damage in the second battle.

Yet again we save a chicken from mortal danger. Wait. Wait a second. This chicken isn't in danger. It's just loot! It also does not affect our score for this trial. Hm. Maybe it was food for the Balrog?

The last boss falls from the ceiling at the last possible moment. He's a bit of a glass cannon boss. Does a fair bit of damage and is fast, but doesn't have much staying power.

He also sticks around to chat.

HEY THIS GUYS RUINING MY IMMERSION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Brain Trust is at it again.

The Black Knight tells us to drink wine with his friends while he lets Roman know we made it. Then he jumps down to the lower level and takes off.

Thanks dude

Random and Leona quietly congratulate each other but they err and commit a great crime when they do not congratulate Chaz!

Scene ends with that.

Random and Guanidia discuss the trial and then Random heads to bed.

The next day, Random heads all the way up to the classroom and only remembers there's a holiday when the door is locked.

So he immediately goes back to bed. lol.

Then, some time down the line, someone pounding on the door in the middle of the night gets Random out of bed.

We get more art of Sarah's boobs for a moment while a pair of wheezing, panting sounds play to indicate sex is happening I guess but it sounds more like a man and a woman are winded after sprinting a couple hundred metres.

Errant points out that at this point in the series Sarah has exercised her agency exactly twice and both times has been to ambush Random for sex.

ONE WEEK LATER THE TWO ARE STILL IN BED and Sarah notes they've not left the house once and Random has not been going to school and also Sarah thinks her friends will miss her (a lie, she has no friends besides Luci).

At the start of the next update, Guanidia will note he hasn't been in the bedroom once all week since he wants to avoid Sarah, so I guess the implication is they fucked all week. That is such a painfully lonely horny teen nerdass thing to write.

So they agree Sarah has to go back to Mt Zulle, but Random decides to escort her for some reason.

I'll... mostly let the last part of this update speak for itself.

I am always saying this. I'm always saying this!

Lmfao at this whole sequence but danger is our bed takes the cake

Next time:

A prophecy... A slime...
