S02E08: The Five Doors Barring The Way To Our Future

R.I.P. Leona. She's still dead.

Lots to unpack here. Random is now a Kght.

Guandidia is a F-Chameleon. F obviously stands for... I challenge you to guess.

Wendie got a promotion from Slave to Slave Ranger despite doing nothing but cleaning all night without making a noise.

Also her Max HP is 69. Nice! Amusingly, that probably was not intentional on Indinera's part. I, or rather Errant, will explain why shortly.

So, the TeAndal is a fine sword.

And, here's a shocker... Random, despite apparently not having trained for it all year, suddenly decided to switch to sword and board. Probably inspired by Leona's death. It's not explicitly spelt out anywhere, I don't think, but hey, that's some character.

And thigns have been scaled down. For some reason Guanidia has access to the Mind BioS stuff again but the bonuses they give are... miniscule.

Wendala can use Metallist and Metallist is no longer very powerful at all!

Missionary Landcoat also sucks now!

See, not much of a boost. The only gear we have for Wendie is the weapons in the previous pic of her equipment screen.

The spells have been scaled down too. Wave used to be 3MP, Fresh Wave 5, Quadra Strike and Spin Attack once cost 20... And all their power levels have been reduced too.

Random lost G-Wave and some moves entirely because.

Same deal with the other two. I like this. Makes you feel like you're just stepping into the big leagues. The real shit.

Not just some amateurs with a bit of training and a bit of experience anymore!

Why do we still have the Astrobalt but we lost the Cryzalis, Mithril and Bromium??? They're also crafting ores! WTH! No healing items anymore either. That stuff better import one way or another. Like maybe it's already been saved somehow... But likely not given what I know. Maybe the clear bonus...

what

Jesus christ get her a proper bed Random

We'll ignore that letter for the moment.

There's a kid on the roof for some reason.

The church has closed its doors...

And there's lots of new NPCs wandering around. This magician says she wishes to learn sword fighting to cover her weakness to metal damage. I'm always saying you should do this.

You need to protect yourselves from metal damage, all of you.

I buy one of each shield. The lighter one is for Wendie. Also a couple accessories. I got all this gold by selling the Tyrine Gear Random had acquired during the game at the item store. It's worth a lot, and we were provided with a spare set (which also vanished) for the Tourney.

Weird feeling huh

Chaz! is in the armory too. He's too depressed to join Random's party so he wishes us luck and then tells Wendie her dress is cute. She thanks him and we move on.

Because Random and Indy are both sadists and perhaps masochists, Random refuses to buy any items from the item shop. Which means we'll have absolutely no healing items for this postgame, and our characters healing spells all really blow. Even Wendies.

The market place has been turned into... some kind of weird battle space. This is the focus of the postgame.

Yes, very true.

We could fight three of the battles behind the five doors right off the bat and have a pretty good chance at winning, if we didn't have too much bad luck.

It costs 100 per party member btw.

and body!"

And yeah, Guanidia's right. The whole party sucks right now. I guess the in-character reason is probably that Random has never done sword-and-board before, Guanidia is in a totally new form, and Wendie... was mailed across the continent in a fucking chest and then did nothing but housework for months. She got demoted if anything.

We leave this place for now and head to the school, which a child mentions is adorned with black flags now.

And so it is.

While we can't enter the school, we can finally enter the garden behind it.

It's just a medium sized area filled with grass and trees, surrounded by a wall.

Another relic bow for Wendie.

I die on this thing. It's actually one of the harder monsters here. Gives the most XP too. The thing is, this garden is filled almost entirely with boss level battles (and one minor battle.)

This is the intended grinding spot. Though maybe Indy intended for you to do the easiest door to get a level or two first.

This thing takes a long while to beat and you get 45xp from it and that's not even enough for level 2. Bullshit waste of time!

I get a Wasteland Horror again right after it, and manage to beat it without any casaulties, mostly via not taking any chances, lots of pre-emptive healing and also luck.

Everyone goes from level 1 to 4.

We have to come all the way back to the house to heal. This makes the opening and closing animation for the front gate every time we come and go feel very tedious.

Hitting level 4 triggers something, however!

Random has a weird response to this: "Woah, Wendie you'll go far!"

CHAZ!

We immediately equip him an accesory and the Clash Cutlass, which allows him to double hit.

Now that we have Chaz!, if we talk to the old man who rambles about the statues in front of the square, he'll say this and then Wendie will wonder what will happen if she tells the old dude to shut the fuck up. She suspects she would be made to kneel and apologise and since she hates old men, that grosses her out.

Nevertheless, if you talk to the old guy again...

Chaz! has a good laugh as they disown Wendie.

For whatever fucking reason this scene counts towards our clear percentage, which I'll explain later.

I go to the 5 doors and pay to enter one. The price is now 400 GP cos of Chaz!

A dark room lies beyond...

And we fight these weird things. Nothing really notable here.

This is the easiest and quickest fight. Also it gives us roughly 200XP. This is the true secret to grinding in the postgame. Fuck the stupid ass garden with its boss length battles for subpar rewards. Even if the Wasteland Horror gives you more than twice the XP of this fight, you have to fight it for like 5 minutes and then go rest in bed.

You can fight these cool mushroom bros repeatedly before you run out of mana.

The gargoyles aren't much of a threat.

Before I realised how shitty the garden was to grind in, I went back and fought more monsters.

Even a scaled down Gaor-Gaban!

I think most of these are miniboss/boss fights from all the scenarios in this game.

Well not the crabs

There's more enemies than this, like a Titanic Lycose, and a crocodile enemy, but I wasn't patient enough to run into them.

The fourth door, which I attempt at level 7, I only just win with Random at critical HP, everyone else down. 100 fucking XP.

When I hit level 11, I attempt the fifth and hardest door. Wendie goes down immediately, whcih fucks me. But I immediately take a second shot...

This is a hell of a fucking battle. But I make it. That saved me like 30+ minutes of grinding to what most people would recommend. Level 14 or 15. Definitely didn't want to risk going over level 14 with the high XP reward, though. For reasons.

Anyway, you may wonder if we get any prizes for beating any of these doors, let alone all of them. The answer is no. Each door just adds +1% to our clear score. That's one time only, per door.

I'll explain a couple things now. Or rather, Errant will! Like the biggest reason (besides making this stupid ass game easier) I ground everyone to level 50 at the end of LP1!

quote:

Format: Name - HP/MP/Attack/Defense/Mind/Agility
All equipment is removed before making these checks.
The number listed is subtracted from the stat, then 1/4 of the remainder is added to the promoted character. Should get around +50 to everything if you're level 50 with all stat boosters given.
This can't ever result in a character losing stats compared to not importing.

----
RANDOM
R - 409/142/337/273/228/137
G - 337/103/250/640/209/121
W - 387/205/207/180/272/196 - Also gets some tiny stat increases from the work choice each day, like literally 1 point each.

So basically, the higher everyone stats before promotion, the higher they'll be after promotion. +50 will make a decent difference early in LP3, late game, for most of the stats, not so much. It'll matter for Speed and MP a lot, always, though. HOWEVER, the bonus is not nessecarily +50 to all of a characters stats. This is just an extremely rough estimate on Errants part. That's also assuming most of the stat boosters went to a few characters, so you know.

I doubt Random, Guanidia or Wendala got a full 50+ to MP, sadly. Or HP for that matter. I havent checked what the base characters stats are, so I might be proven wrong.

The other things to explain...

quote:

Don't grind above level 14 with Random's team after promoting! There's a script in place to teach them the skills they would learn in LP3 by level if they imported high enough, but it stops at that point. You'd really have to overdo it to lose something useful like Legend Slayer, but better safe than sorry.

Random shares his xp with the rest of the party once LP3 starts so you don't have to worry too much about making his group overleveled to show off the postgame content in his scenario since the rest will catch up.

Getting certain completion% thresholds in 2 causes certain things to appear in the big chest of imported items.

Random's Scenario - 99% for book of sariis (sells to one guy) and heart devourer (artifact you can find some time in LP3)
100% for lady deen's diary, gothwick sceptre and long cape island map (quest stuff, if you're playing the patched version you can get them from a game spanning and easily messed up sidequest otherwise you're screwed)

So we get extra rewards for higher clear scores. Some of those things seem to be stuff we already got and are being restored to us! Alisons ghost gave us that map, and we picked up the other things!

Errant has not listed more minor rewards like ores and crap.

If you get 100% in Random's scenario, you get a piece of Astrobalt. I am not sure if this is in addition to the Golem piece or if that is meant to replace its loss when we import.

Also one interesting tidbit that explains some weird items I had last time I played LP3.

quote:

Characters import with all their equipped gear still equipped. A couple of those items were changed around in LP3 and are buggy, like the magdalena's crown ("686") and heart devourer ("682"). These have the same stats as the normal versions but far more characters can use them.

Time for home. Yveen did promise us something that would change things up. She was... greatly underexaggerating just how much everything would change because of this letter, however.

Uh oh.

Guanidia asks if they know anyone in Metrolia, and Random says nope!

Some of the destinies have well over 100% completion possible.

Hope I didn't miss anything here!!!!!!!

But yeah, Random's Destiny ends here.

Next time, we have to deal with Sarah's bullshit.
