S03E02: Sweet Little God and the Money Device.

So, before we move on to the game we have some text material to go through. In the form of a .txt for the main manual and a html file (with not much actual info.) Most of it is pretty standard, however Indy does recommend using the melee (basically auto-fight) command to figure out enemy weaknesses from time to time, since apparently the party AI is good at doing that. The downside is the party tends to use their most powerful spells to do so.

Here's a bit of a unique (for the time) system the game has though

quote:

SLAYERS
A character killing a specific monster for him will have some side XP points increase.
These points are called "Slayer points". A character can earn 1, 2 or 3 more slayer points if a
monster he "likes" is part of the enemy party. Also, additional regular XP bonus will be
given. In other words, a cat like Herasia trains faster if he fights rats!
Whenever a character has earnt enough slayer points to reach a new level, an information
message will pop up and tell the player what are the benefits.
Various bonus can be earnt when reaching a new slayer level.
So try to train all of your party wisely, selecting the right member in the
right dungeon. With some knowledge, you'll even get to "feel" when a monster will
be in the slayer-type for your characters.
Note: In order to have your slayer points increase, the character must be alive at the end
of the fight.

If you don't fully get it, don't worry, I'll talk about it a bit more as we go. The bonuses aren't just stat ups either. Sometimes you get new skills, sometimes you get gear, and theres even a couple bonuses that open up areas and I think there's a mini-quest one?
It's basically a reason to make you take the weaker characters into the party sometimes since this game has a problem with, as Errant put it, the party members either being Untouchable Golden Gods or completely worthless with very little middle ground.

quote:

ABOUT INTERACTION
Talking to NPC can lead to different speeches depending on who is in your party.
Try to "feel" these kinds of things. Maybe a fairy would like to hear something from
another fairy? maybe an elf like Sarah has something better to say to another elf?
Also, sometimes, a certain character will be needed in order to do a quest successfully,
so do not neglect anybody.

Oh yeah. Speaking of the party. One of the most unfortunate aspects of this game is... it has ditched the LP1 system of having everyone present and commenting on things even if they're not in the active party.

So if we don't have Coryool or Wendala or Guanidia or even the right combo of party members in the party at any given moment, we can miss what could be really funny or maybe even interesting content. I think Indy generally tried to do this so that dungeons designed for, say Guanidia, would have Guanidia dialogue, but there's probably lots of outliers.

quote:

3-DAZER
Make sure you build steadily each of your characters. Raise their slayers according to
the dungeon you are in, and do not forget anyone. It's often a lot more rewarding to complete
a dungeon with the "right" team better than your usual team.

The .txt file also has this... ominous note.

Laxius Power 3: The Final Terror OST: 05: Inn

First thing we do is make sure we pick up our magic relic sword.

I've only played Laxius Power 3 past the first few days of the game once and the one time I completed was in like 2015? 16? So I can't even remember how long the TeAndal holds up. Errant assures me it's still good all the way up to Day 10, perhaps solely because there's something about it I did not mention in LP2.

Like the Metallist, the TeAndal has its own element.

And TeAndal's Glory there, lowers resistance to it!

Res Sword is some kinda healing move and Thunder Crush is the natural evolution of Randoms Bolt spells. You may also notice that spells and gear now have symbols in their descriptions. Those are shorthand for various things. The explanation is in the dreambook.

This sounds good but-

This just means we get another set of Tyrine's junkass gear.

Anyway, we didn't get much use out of the questbook in LP1, but we will get a fair bit more out of it this time through. And we have a second book now! Let's take a look!

Okay not right -now-.

So on this screen you're a pair of red brackets you move to be over what you want to use. Our only quest right now is Random.

The clock gives us this plus current amount of time played (9 minutes, cos it counts the cutscenes.) Not sure if this one has been altered to count battle time. The LP1 one sure didn't.

The Logbook has a bunch of stuff for us right now. That sword with the exclamation point above it explains Slayers and also gives you the option to turn off Slayers messages, which we'll do before long.

The guy next to it explains comrades. They're like people that tag along with the party but don't fight. Can still help with things though.

16! 16 types of ore! Indy, you magnificent bastard.

The sign to the right explains Guilds but there's nothing to really explain there. You can only join six, but I think there's only six that count. I have a vague memory of there being one that doesn't count. We'll see.

The sword sign on the second row gives us some important info.

Elements and conditions are listed here too, but they're just (usually) easy to figure abbreviations.

The Money Device.

The sign to the right just explains Teleport and Egress. Though Egress has some new nice functions like letting you leave the Metrolian Castle quickly or teleporting you to the Metrolia gates if you use it in town.

The star is just some infomation...

The torch is a summary of LP1. It is actually phrased differently from the one in the opening but still as skimpy on the details. Like there's no mention of The Dark order or the Grand Commandanter, or the seven temples scattered across the Deport (we only took out two, remember!) nor is there a mention of the Demoniac Cycle.

The flowers are the same deal but for LP2.

You may have noticed this odd item earlier. It's a glitched item, specifically the Breaker Jaws. Indy moved around a bunch of equipment slots for LP3, so some items that import get glitched like this. They usually maintain their stats and special abilities, but lose their name and character restrictions (but not entirely. Usually.)

Due to the fact Indy only -moved- some slots around, you can end up with both a normal and a glitched version of the same equipment and the glitched version will be better cos a wider variety of characters can use it. lol.

Out in the corridor, the next room over is locked...

that's a wall random

Random thinks this must be Sarah. So, we'll go down to see before we explore the upper floor.

There's a chicken here too for some reason.

Luci's room is locked. Random says she came in very tired.

Coryool isn't even in his room.

At the end of the hall, we find a balcony type thign with some loot. Down to the main floor!

Oh yeah, as you may've already noticed this game does use speech bubbles to emote sometimes.
Random says he couldn't sleep all night out of worry.

Then Sarah is like IT TOOK A LONG TIME TO WALK TO THE INN FROM THE TOWNS ENTRANCE!

This is his awful segue into saying how long they've been apart.

Tina's the little girl. She move so she can see. Sarah then says it's been exactly two months since they saw each other in Tyrine and then pounces.

waht

Linda says it's nice to see a happy couple as the purple haired woman moves to Sarah's side for some reason. She doesn't say anything, but it does prompt Random to ask who she is.

Sarah says she's Sylvenia! And that she (Sarah) got lost and then the party digress into a pointless little aside about what arriving in the night was like and Tina says I WAS IN BED WHEN RANDOM ARRIVED COS IM A LITTLE GIRL BUT I WAS HERE TO SAY HELLO TO SARAH!!!
And Randoms thanking them for taking him in in the middle of the night (he's actually very polite, charming and well-mannered in this dialogue.)

And then after another little aside about Guanidia, Randoms all.... You still haven't told me why Sylvenia is here.

WAOH

She says people get lost in Metrolia a lot. Random says it took a hour to walk from the entrance to the inn.

HA HA HA HA HA HA

Sarah's all 'told you he'd love that.'

Sylvenia's all 'wait wait maybe it's not like that I don't-' but everyone carries on without her.

Lol.

You fucked up Random.

After Sylvenia basically says 'can we go now' they agree.

I have no fucking idea why Indinera thought blue text on dark brown background was a good idea.

"an example of the conflict between player and author" - Errant

While Random is the same level he was in our imported save, Sarah was only level 3 or 4 or something on that save, but as Errant wrote in their notes on the import bonuses, Random apparently psychically shares some experience with all lower level party members so they're not too far behind him.

Sarah's current gear blows ass.

But at least she has plenty of debuffs, buffs and healing and NYMPH'S PARA which I think is sadly reduced in effectiveness. Probably. Maybe it'll still be useful.

Sylvenia is not a combat character at all. She doesn't even have any skills.

Random suddenly decides Luci has to come with at the last minute.

AHA, THAT'S WHERE MY SHIT HAS BEEN HIDDEN FROM ME!

Weird room here with no entry and a very taunting key. We can't visit the rest of the first floor since the backrooms lead into the kitchen which is a private space according to Linda. Odd, since that balcony from before overlooks it!!! The other door just says LOCKED so who knows.

When we get upstairs, a girl screams.

Luci jumps out of bed and........ starts walking around randomly like a NPC.

You can't go far down the hall either way or downstairs again.

So we talk to Luci and she denies having a nightmare, it was just a bad dream.

Sarah tries to get her to tell her what happened in her dream but Luci deflects by doing a OH HI SARAH YOU LOOK WONDERFUL I HEARD YOU ARE THE HIGHEST ELF CASTE NOW thing and it works.

Sarah then goes yeah well, you're a Goddess now which is awesome and Luci corrects her.

I feel like a Double Goddess would be a huge deal Sarah.

Is this Sarah's demented way of implying she'd be open to being in a polycule?

She called Random little.

Then Luci accidentally brings up the dreams again for why she may seem so absent. So Sarah asks about the dreams again.

And Luci deflects again. And then again changes the topic to how long its been since she's last seen Sarah.

After a bit of vague chatter about the trials and suffering and anxiety they all went through, Luci asks why was Sarah's 'carrier' so late?

What did you do, Sarah.

Then Luci starts saying the dream is echoing in her head and Random asks if she should take a nap and Luci vehemently declines.

Luci says hi sorry im a mess no sleep head empty

you need a wizard

Gustav did not finish Luci's staff????

At least she still has a very broad selection of spells.

Random says he noticed and then Sarah said she did too and Random is like "... you just got here how do you know?"

Sarah dodges the question.

... Two Sarahs.

Upstairs, we find the good ol' Dreambook!

It has also gotten a makeover! So you select characters on this screen...

Funny he dual-wields in his character art now that he's gone sword and board.

On this screen, you still move around the bracketed cursor. The topmost one returns you to the prior 'page'. The sword...

Random is our major offensive character. In every sense of the word.

Slayer level page...

Combat record...

That's the glory and money hound we all know and love.

There's also a more detailed profile for each character, so here we go.

"Random is a "Crusader of Tyrine".
He got granted with this rank after he successfully followed a 8 months training course in the famous knight school of Tyrine.

Naturally gifted with awesome powers, Random can perform damages like nobody else. Almost everything get sliced in half after a strike of his sword.

Well balanced, he can take little damages from opponents' attacks and use his strength to overcome most dangers."

One of my favourite things about Random is how mercenary he is, and his highest priority is being famous and mingling with the rich and powerful.

"Sarah is a Suprem Elf of the Sun.
The Elf of the Sun is the highest rank in the Elven community. This means Sarah is naturally gifted as a warrior and healer.

She got promoted like her elders did by taking a bath in one of the countless and mythical elven lakes of Indinera. This is a rite every Elf has to do in order to become an adult.

Sarah chose the wisdom path.
Very talented with magic, Sarah is able to protect herself decently and use her wisdom to cause major troubles to the enemy parties."

https://youtu.be/jlc8Ko38ECA?t=569 timestamp

Women be shopping

"Luciana is a Half-Goddess.
Her rank is extremely high, especially for such a young lady.

Zanbard, her master, had secretly learnt her to become a Half-Goddess instead of a Wizardress because he knew she could turn out wonderfully great.

The Half-Goddess is extremely damaging, and decent at resisting opponents' blows. It can also use a special spell summoning the immense power of Lava.

She is also naturally gifted in Fire, Ice and Thunder elements. Wise and mild tempered, Luciana can do major damages if she uses the right spell."

look when she revealed her greatest desire was more power in LP1 and I said EYES ON LUCI i wasn't kidding

shes just modest about the amount of power she already has

Loitering.

"Coryool is now a Body Master. He learnt in SankT Leona how to strengthen himself and master his huge muscles.

Coryool is now a very reliable member the party can count on, though he never really changed his rude and lazy behavior.

This man also is gifted with 2 exceptional habilities: the first is to be immune to most magic, while the second is to protect any of his comrades to Death spells."

lame indy just reused the first dreambook quote

No one guessed or even tried to guess what the F in F-Chameleon stood for.

They fly now?

"Guanidia used to be a slime, before his true nature got discovered by the elders of a slime community he met in the past.

Guanidia evolved into a Flying Chameleon though he is yet too young to fly."

oh they dont fly now

"Wicked as a fighter, he can use innate spells that alter enemies's conditions and can properly do awesome damages in the parties."

Guanidia has nothing in his life. No interests. His involvement with the party has left him an easily frightened and hollow shell.

TURN YOUR MONITOR ON

numbers, pussies and sleeping. also luci claims over and over he's really good at games and/or game theory

Also why is he good against flesh monsters does he eat them. is that what catfood is in the deport

"Herasia became stronger in the high mountains of Fanta, the town where his mistress Luciana became a Half-Goddess.

Forced to live in a snowy place, he developed immunity to ice. Fast and cunning, Herasia can use large range atacks, that damage all the enemies. He's also a fast learner.

On the contrary to Guanidia, Herasia can't talk with human beings, but he's perfectly able to discuss with cats!"

do you think other cats like or understand maths

There he is. There he is! Our Chaz!

Ettiquette?????

"Chaz is a worthy warrior one can count on.
He is also, like his friend Random, a Crusader of Tyrine. Both met and befriended while they were still training to achieve this status.

Pretty strong, balanced, Chaz is a good supporting fighter. Some of his sword skills make him close to Random."

Close to Random is a flatout lie, since Chaz! is useless in battle. He has greater value to us as moral support.

Look, Chaz!. JRPGs have an unlimited supply of stronger monsters, no matter how nonsensical it gets, especially when there's sequels in the same setting.

There SHE is.

I'm going to post Wendies entirely in screenshot form just for posterity.

lol

Didn't LP1 say she was 28 or something????

Yes that's all very Wendie

WENDIE BEING DEMOTED IS THERE! IT'S IN THE TEXT!!!!!! It's in the text and not just as a joke!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Random is a hilariously stupid shithead for making her clean his room for months.

Yeah sure Wendie.

Speaking of Wendie has anyone played Wrath of the Righteous and noted the vague similarities between that games Wendie (Wenduag) and this ones. They both even like killing things and BDSM.

Leanda actually has two different artworks, completely different, not just tweaked a bit, for if you told her to go the Celestial Geomancian route.

She still blows.

Gender HUMAN BEING never gets old tho.

Only likes men.

"Formerly a very shy lady, Leanda became a Thaumaturgist. This magician rank allows her to cast good damaging spells aswell as dealing with pain and bad situations.

Gifted with dark spells, she can perform huge damages against holy enemies."

Why are you talking about your personality like it's literally clothes and not just in a figurative sense.

She's so excited to have a personality that differs from Lucianas's, I guess.

We've nothing in these...

The paper and quill is list of guild memberships which we also have none of. The last one is... Yveens profile.

And of course, here she fucking is to immediately prove me wrong about no real nudity by being the sole instance of nudity. Fuck Yveen. She's covering herself, however so it's not like, you know. It's being tastefully nude.

Still not gonna embed it. And now she's made more work for me now since I have to go back and edit the previous updates content warning.

https://lpix.org/4327211/Player_22-07-11-22-10-26.png

"NAME: Yveen
GENDER: Goddess
AGE: ??

Yveen is the beautiful and beloved Goddess of Life. She rules over the Deport, the world where Random and his friends live in.

At some points, she'll come and provide Random with some help. He'll also value her save pointss, scattered at various places in the Deport.

Kind but a bit naive, Yveen is Random's best friends among the superior gods of this world. She has always been on his side, and will probably remain an ally throughout his quests."

Probably?????????????????

"QUOTE:
"Rest well, heroes...""

Foreboding quote if you ask me.

And we can, and do take the Dreambook with us for this game, rather than leave it to moulder in the hideout forever.

Also you change partymembers via this spell that Random and only Random knows. Thus, Random is mandatory for the whole game. The Yveen Pendants have been totally dropped and forgotten and are never mentioned again because they were, I think the justification for why everyone could die and be revived in battle all the time, which is why only four partymembers were only active combatants at once, since Yveen only sent four pendants.

That very much goes out the window in this game and especially future ones, with some party splits.

Not far from the Dreambook, we get our GP back, except the Money Device has already been to work on converting it to PP.

There he is. Our Chaz!.

He complains about how he's going to go mad from boredom if he will just be sitting around for two weeks.

Don't worry Chaz!, I think some excitement will be coming along before much time passes.

Well. Excitement for -us-, not for you. You'll probably spend around 10 of those 14 days hiding in a hole.

Leanda's here too... Just south of them, the two pets are hanging in a storeroom for some reason.

There's our special little guy.

I love how this game can't emphasise enough how fucked up Herasia's life is.

Up to the third floor.

Marianne came with too! No character art for her though. Also Wendala and Coryool are suspiciously absent.

Tonic Teas used to have a +100 bonus. +25 will reduce their usefulness a surprising amount, but I mean, 40% is still pretty good.

HIDDEN CHEST

It's better than the shitty Power Guard, but not particularly good.

And this is the import chest and... The game softlocks here without fail for me.

This is one of the big reasons this update was done later than I intended (besides me underestimating how much typing I would be doing in this fucking inn alone!)

So. It softlocks without fail for me here, regardless of if I use easyrpgplayer's .exe or RPG_RT.exe. I think, must be an import code problem, perhaps form the patches. Errant asks me to send the save. Swiriko does too. It works flawlessly on their ends. So it must be my install, then, right? Well, fresh new install, it still softlocks the exact same way. I even made a new LPII end game save to import and it still happens.

None of us can figure out why, we tried a bunch of stuff. So in the end, Errant opened the chest for me, took this screenshot:

then saved and sent the save back. Now, we just have to pray the LP Curse has been vanquished for good.

And that's how I defeated an ancient evil with the power of friendship.

Now we have all our old junk back... Plus one new item.

I'm not even sure why this book exists.

I gear everyone up...

The Sword of Scrolls double hits so Luci will be outdamaging Random lol.

Meanwhile, Luci's old ultimate weapon is probably the best starting weapon for Sarah. She can use -some- normal swords too, now. Like Empyrion was one of Random's two best swords in LP1. She can use that. But not Metallist. Or Barandos DaMuhl. I think only Random and Wendie can use Metallist. We'll see.

We have a lot of diamonds...

So we go back to Marianne and get her to start up her Diamond/Money Device so we can take advantage of Metrolia's Money Device.

Marianne kindly converts all diamonds into PP automatically, though she doesn't 'waste' diamonds. As in, she won't convert them if you're too close to the PP cap.

And close we are! That's just about the PP Cap right there, already! I have two Nature Diamonds left.

I have her give me back 8 Aurora Diamonds. Why did I do that?

I just do things kind of arbitrarily like a dog.

Time to leave the inn.

And this update is so long now we might have to cut it here! Oops! All talk and text!

That might go for the next update too, really. Next time: Sweet Little God meets the Big Powerful King and explores the largest city in the world.

the end
