A better work would make it clearer that Sterling and Galen have enough pull AND the volition to get Lincoln shitcanned for not coddling their little brats, but that's not supported by the writing at all. I'm not a veteran, but I can't imagine anyone going up to a USN ship captain or XO and NOT getting a metaphorical wooping.
