The Power of Love
Now… where were we?
Ah, that's right. The hero meets the Grinning Colossus, and realizes their weapons do no good against it. What little damage they inflicted was healed back, and they stand before a wholly renewed foe.
But is it truly a foe? The only information our hero has is that which was given to them, information that they do not wish to follow. They had heard much of the power of love, and how an understanding heart can lead to connecting to others.
Perhaps this is similar? It may be possible for the hero to connect with the Grinning Colossus, and in doing so find a different place in the world for them both.
This statement of trust is met with pain. The hero lashes out without meaning to, but it is an aimless anger, going nowhere. They are not yet ready to fulfill their prescribed purpose. They could give up, but like many newly-formed beings of so long ago the romantic idea of love's power is still inside their heart.
Using the precious time allotted to them to reposition, they decide to try showing the Grinning Colossus that they mean it no harm. With enough open trust and love, they tell themselves, surely things will work out.
This also does not work. The Grinning Colossus doesn't care. It does not feel, it does not think. It is, by design, too large to do anything but perpetuate its own existence. Any who are injured by it are simply acceptable losses.
Still, the Hero presses on.
Exploring further, there comes a moment where the Hero finds the Grinning Colossus's behavior to have changed. While above it, the beast seems to become docile. It looks up, and awaits… something. Perhaps this is a moment of epiphany?
An understanding?
Once more, the hero tries to embrace the Grinning Colossus… to leave a truly original mark upon the world, in a way that only they can.
It ends, as with all other efforts, with disappointment and pain. And so, the hero takes their first true step towards the story's inevitable end.
They have realized that it is impossible to defeat the Grinning Colossus with the Power of Love.
