Beruka x Azura B

Music: Far Away

AZURA: Beruka. A moment?

BERUKA: Yes, Lady Azura?

AZURA: I was curious if you learned anything new about that assassin from the other day.

BERUKA: Hm? Why do you care? He was after me alone. This isn't your concern.

AZURA: How could you say such a thing? This is YOUR life we're talking about here!

BERUKA: Exactly. It is MY life. Do not bother yourself over something so trivial.

BERUKA: In my line of work, I am fated to die at any time. I've accepted this.

AZURA: Beruka...

BERUKA: *sigh* If you must know... This dagger...contains the emblem of a man from my past.

BERUKA: My former employer.

BERUKA: The man I worked with before being brought on as Lady Camilla's retainer.

AZURA: Who is he?

BERUKA: Very few have seen his face. And no one knows his true name.

BERUKA: He is someone with a far reaching influence in Nohr's underground. Despite essentially being a phantom.

AZURA: And what business could this man possibly have with you? Don't tell me it's just because you stopped working for him?

AZURA: Is such a supposedly powerful individual truly so petty?

BERUKA: Like I said, very few have seen his face.

BERUKA: And I am one of them.

AZURA: ...!

BERUKA: My mentor was a very high-ranking employee among that man's gang.

BERUKA: I saw him several times as a child. And then as an adult I took contracts directly from him.

AZURA: I see... So in killing you, there's one less person that can identify him.

AZURA: I must admit he's quite thorough. But why wait this long?

BERUKA: If I had to guess, he likely assumed I had been killed. An assassin normally doesn't live after they are caught targetting a princess.

AZURA: Yes, that seems logical. Well, thank you for telling me, Beruka.

BERUKA: Do not thank me. The only reason I told you is so that you understand the danger of being involved.

BERUKA: Even the little information I gave you might make him consider you a threat.

BERUKA: This man does not care that you're royalty, Lady Azura. He will kill you if you go after him!

AZURA: And so I'm just supposed to let you go alone?!

AZURA: Let us at least tell Camilla about this. Or Corndog. There's no need for you to fight by yourself!

BERUKA: Pointless. That is only putting more lives at risk. I will handle this myself.

AZURA: And what exactly is your plan for doing so?

BERUKA: I will continue to fight off assassins until he either gives up or kills me.

AZURA: You're joking...

BERUKA: I think we both know that I am incapable of such.

BERUKA: Lady Azura. I am a weapon, to be used until I break. Then I am discarded and replaced.

BERUKA: I am not someone worth dying for. You wouldn't risk your life for a lance, would you?

AZURA: You can't seriously think your life has so little worth!

BERUKA: I know it does. Especially compared to the likes of you.

BERUKA: Tell me; if we were to both die, who will be grieved for more; a princess of Nohr?

BERUKA: Or a dime-a-dozen orphan from the slums turned killer for hire?

AZURA: ...

BERUKA: Exactly.

BERUKA: I've accepted my lot in life. I've taken many lives. Many that probably deserved it, many that certainly didn't.

BERUKA: It was only a matter of time before karma caught up with me. I'm only surprised it took THIS long.

AZURA: Beruka...

BERUKA: You'd do well to not get too attached to people like me, Lady Azura. You're a kind person. You deserve a long, peaceful life.

BERUKA: Now, good-bye.

AZURA: Beruka...

AZURA: You've fooled yourself for so long, I doubt you noticed the sadness in your eyes...
