My next randomizer playthrough is that FFMQ seed that I expect to be utter hell to play through, and it opens up with a Monty Python reference, in anticipation of how I expect to deal with most fights.

This... is not the world map I expected. Is that the Ice Pyramid just to the north? ...At least I still have a teammate available; I half-expect that the "map shuffle" option could potentially strand you without any party members until you find a coin.

At least I start with a good shield.

Interesting place for a bridge.

At least it has this! ...Which proves that I'm playing with full chest shuffle on. Speaking of which, there's another check in Foresta, but I need an axe to get it.

You know how Zelda 1 had you dungeon-diving to collect Triforce pieces? Y'know how LTTPR has a mode that makes you do that nowadays? Well, guess what I need to do this seed.

Nothing left I'm capable of doing around here, so off I go to... whatever happens to be in the fourth region this time, grabbing a skeleton key on the way.

Oh hey, there's that axe I needed for Foresta. Be right back. (Also, note to self: don't bother checking the bottom-right chest in Doom Castle.)

...Technically an improvement, practically useless to me. It's literally 1 defense and nothing else.

Well, at least if I can find the Wintry Cave I'll have a good teammate to carry me.

And right next door is all the firepower I'll ever need this seed.

I'm also playing with battlefield randomization, for the record; blue is items (I'm standing on one, in case my character is too "in the way" for you to see), black is experience, and green is cash. Judging from the shaking screen when I stepped here, there'll be Fireburg enemies in this one.

And in that temple over there, I get the one piece of armor I never found in my last seed. 15 defense, Water/Wind Resistance, and Sleep/Poison Immunity. Very nice.

...I don't know about you, but I wasn't expecting to find Aquaria right next to the Volcano.

As if I didn't have enough firepower already, I get Flare by robbing Phoebe.

That's... gonna be an issue... As proven by the earthquakes from stepping on battlefields in the wrong region, I'll have no idea what kind of enemies I'll run into in any given battlefield, and that's basically the only way to get any decent amount of money in a reasonable time frame. Or, in this particular seed, at all.

Might as well at least check the base for items; the settings for this seed mean that I should get the Mask before it expects me to actually climb this place (assuming it doesn't delete it again because asshole devs), but that doesn't mean the base is out of logic, right?

Again I find the Elixir before the Tree Wither. Not that it matters much yet, since I have no idea where Level Forest is.

Useless crap.

Well, time to bite the bullet, I guess. Fair warning: I have no idea what's gonna show up here, but I strongly suspect it's gonna utterly demolish me.

It's an ambush by a couple of self-destructing Iflytes. Yes, FFMQ has an enemy attack randomizer. And since I'm pretty sure this battlefield will always ambush me, there is literally no way for me to win at this point.

This times three, as I test this. Thankfully the closest thing to a penalty this game has for a game over is starting the fight over (or from your last save, should you so choose); it doesn't take money or items or anything!

Maybe Phoebe will work better?

Here's the biggest reason I'm expecting this seed to suck: The attack randomizer has a setting to make everything self-destruct. Guess what setting I used.

Anyway, after another game over, I get some Iflytes again. Would it have been more appropriate to name myself Luigi for the "wins by doing absolutely nothing" meme?

One good thing you can say for FFMQ that I wish other RPGs did: You don't need to actually be alive to level up. I will need this, because I'm gonna be spending too much time blown to smithereens to level up without that bit of mercy.

Anyway, after dying horribly every time a Stheno group shows up, I manage to get enough Iflytes...

...to scrape together enough cash to buy that Sand Coin. Please don't ask how many times I died here; I didn't keep track.

Anyway, since I've managed to survive getting bombarded by enemies from the Mine, that item battlefield can only go better, right?

Well, it's not one-shotting Phoebe. I'll count that as a success.

Ack! Time to live down to my name!

Good thing Phoebe has so many spell charges; otherwise I'd never get through these battlefields.

All that getting blown up gives me... oh HELL NO. I'm NOT climbing the volcano yet!

At least it has the decency to deign to exist this time, though.

Anyway, after a quick nap in Foresta (which I'm pretty sure isn't actually randomized because the odds against it showing up in its vanilla location are pretty high- and come to think of it Sand Temple might not be randomized either specifically to avert the "forced to solo" scenario I mentioned at the start), I decide I might as well investigate the local battlefields to try for some cash.

Oh hey, something that's actually supposed to be here!

Weak and lucrative- just how I like 'em!

And might as well take care of what turns out to be an Aquarian battlefield right next door, while I'm at it. I probably don't need the cash for checks, but Seeds never hurt.

Easy money.

I'd say the world was my oyster if I wasn't getting blown up by literally everything. ...Maybe Cloyster? They can learn to self-destruct, right?

Okay, turns out this region doesn't have a town at all, but I did find this. Off to fetch Tristam, but I'll leave off actually diving in for next time.
