First up we have some Welch PAs. I honestly don't know under what circumstances these are seen. The best I can find is some vague suggestions in forums that they are only available on a second playthrough with clear data. I tried replaying a certain distance to see if I could get one of them, but couldn't. Given there's no other reason to replay this game, chances are very few people have seen this scenes, assuming that's actually how you see them.

Anyway, up first...

A comical sound effect plays as Edge beholds this scene.

"Hello, Welch?"

"...Whuh? Whuzzah...? Huh?"

Welch screeches in fright as she cleans away her junk.

*Hmming ellipsis*

"Of COURSE I'm just gonna be lounging around if you don't call me, pal! It's total down time!"

This would seem to suggest you'd only see this if you don't contact Welch much. But I haven't seen anyone confirm this. I wouldn't know how long either, cause I certainly spent some time in game before I really bothered with Item Crafting.

*Confused ellipsis*

"You better not be thinking Item Creation is all fun and games, kid! Don't come crying to me when you run out! So, uh...yeah! It's all your fault!...Because I say so! Shut up!"

Welch grovels and begs as Edge stammers and stutters. And the scene ends.

The next one will be a bit low quality because I got the screenshots from a yonks old video.

Here's a better quality version, but no subtitles.

"Huh? What's gotten into you all of a sudden, Edge?"

"N-no, it's nothing...nothing at all...really..."

"Oh yeah? Well, anyway, about Item Creation..."

"We haven't been getting many quality items lately. Don't you think you ought to rethink the process a bit?"

"I can't...have a serious conversation...when you look like..."

"...Hey, buddy. Are you even listening to me?"

"S-sorry...I'll try calling you again..."

"Huh? Call me again? What are you talking about?"

Edge begins pounding the floor while laughing profusely.

"I thought I was going to die...I'd better take a look at the projector...This should probably fix it..."

"Hey, what the heck was that about? Quit covering your face and shaking like that and listen to what a-"

"What about...now?"

"What are you going on about!? Hey! Look at me when you talk to me! Explain yourself, mister!"

"Yeah, sorry..."

Edge gradually looks at Welch from her shoes up.

"Oh, good...it fixed itself."

Edge screams in fright.

"You're freaking me out here, Edge!"

Edge deactivates the hologram once again.

Edge laughs and we cut to black.

"Huh. You seem to have calmed down a bit. What in the name of all that's holy was that about?"

*Reticent ellipsis*

"N-now what? What's with the staring? Is my mascara running, or something?"

"Much better...Back to the usual Welch. Seeing you look like yourself is actually quite a relief."

"I have no idea what you're talking about, but whatever. Anyway, Item Creation! Let's go!"

And that's that.

I think these scenes are funnier because the joke is on Welch, rather than Welch trying to tell jokes.

Anyway, you remember the Tatroi colosseum? Naturally, there's something to be gained by reaching the end of the different challenges. Well, I say "gained", but it's not really any great reward.

First up, someone unique awaits us at the end of the Team battle segment.

Click here for a familiar face...to Star Ocean fans.

Ashlay Bernbeldt is a character from Star Ocean 1, a party member no less. If you haven't played that game, the name will mean nothing to you here, but it's a nice nod for whoever's a big fan.

Keith Actor: "That team is our old friends, the all but invincible Ocean's Eight!"

Ocean's Eight is the default name for your Team battle team. It is of course both a Star Ocean pun and a reference to Ocean's 11 and related movies. Not sure if the same reference is made in Japanese or not.

Keith Actor: "Perhaps this team has what it takes! Perhaps they'll succeed where all others have failed! We may be witnessing a new epoch in colosseum history, folks! But remember, this is Ashlay they're dealing with! The very Ashlay who has annihilated team after team in the colosseum, despite fighting all by himself! Are you ready for a doozy, folks? Let the challenge begin! Fiiiiiiiiiiight!!!"

Ashlay: "I, Ashlay Bernbeldt, shall show you the essence of Edarl blade arts!"

Ashlay is far from a pushover, but if you're doing this after beating the Ethereal Queen, he'll feel like nothing by comparison.

He particularly lacks the devastating wide area attacks that make other boss fights an actual threat.

Ashlay: "How could my blade skills...possibly still be lacking...!?"

Keith Actor: "I have to admit it, but I was so sure of Ashlay's victory, I didn't even bother to prepare any commentary for if he lost! It's incredible how strong the Ocean's Eight team has become! But this battle wasn't about power...not just power, anyway! It was about skill, and luck, and teamwork, and fighting spirit! It all came together to spell victory today! And look at Ashlay's eyes! He's staring silently at the champions...shoving an unspoken challenge down their throats! We have new champions, but we also have a new rivalry here, folks! I can't wait to see the inevitable rematch! In the meantime, let's have a round of applause for our new champions!"

Lucy: "The name "Ocean's Eight" will go down in colosseum history, that much is for sure! Ooh, I'm sorry, the thought of it is making me tear up! Anyway, here you go...your championship medal and coins!"

The medal is a neck accessory that isn't particularly useful, especially compared to alternative post game equipment. We only get about 100 Fight Coins, which is worthless as is. The colosseum prizes are barely worth the effort you have to put in for them anyway.

Anyway, as for the solo arena, the end boss is just some generic "Lord of Dragons" that isn't even that hard to beat. You also get a Solo Medal which is better than the Team Medal, but not by much. However, if you check outside...

"Don't be silly, Edge, it looks good!"

Becoming solo champion with any character will get their statue placed here. If you defeat the current champion with another character, you will replace their statue with a new one.

Naturally everyone has their own statue and associated dialogue, but I could not possibly be assed going through the entire solo arena for EVERY character, especially the ones that can't even fight well.
