Gunter x Reina B
Music: The Dim Abyss
REINA: Am I being punished, I wonder?
GUNTER: Having to go on patrol with you isn't exactly on my list of pleasantries either...
GUNTER: I had assumed you would not have shown up.
REINA: Heh, you of all people should know that I can be rather stubborn...
GUNTER: You're still holding a grudge about that? You, the sadistic reaper of Hoshido?
GUNTER: Isn't that a tad hypocritical?
REINA: Are you seriously suggesting that you and I are the same?! Please, Gunter, I just had lunch!
REINA: I'll admit to having a bit more fun than most when it comes to killing my enemies. But I would never do anything to dishonor them.
REINA: Unlike some people.
GUNTER: *sigh*...It was not the proudest time of my life, I must admit.
GUNTER: But the situation was getting desperate. We needed to scrounge up any sort of advantage we could.
GUNTER: Even if it meant...coercing it out of you and your allies.
REINA: And it was all for naught, since we all managed to escape.
REINA: How does it feel to sell out your own scruples and get absolutely nothing?
GUNTER: ...
REINA: Still silent? I'll ask an easier one then. From what Lady Corndog has told me, Garon tried to have you killed at the border.
REINA: Mind explaining what that was about? It seems a bit excessive for even Garon to kill one of his loyal followers.
GUNTER: Perhaps rumors of my loyalty have been greatly exaggerated.
REINA: Don't give me that. You've been a soldier since even I was a child.
REINA: "For the glory of King Garon" may as well have been your catchphrase. In fact, I've even heard that you were the frontrunner to become his retainer.
GUNTER: ...! That is...true.
GUNTER: At least I was...but I refused.
REINA: You refused? Why would you do that?
GUNTER: ...Do you remember the young man who headed up those "interrogations"?
REINA: How could I forget such a dastard?
REINA: Heh, he's one of the few people I wish I could have killed twice. What about him?
GUNTER: He was my son.
REINA: ...Oh?
GUNTER: I suppose I have you to thank for my refusal, Reina.
GUNTER: Losing a child... It really helps a man find new appreciation for the family he has left.
GUNTER: When King Garon offered me a place by his side, I declined. I told him I wanted to step away from all this entirely. Spend my days with my wife and daughter.
GUNTER: Let's just say...King Garon does not make requests. And he hates refusals.
REINA: ...
GUNTER: I'm glad my son's death gives you such peace of mind...
GUNTER: It's one of the many things that keep me awake at night!
GUNTER: ...
GUNTER: I think we're done here, lest I say-or do-something regrettable.
REINA: ...I'm afraid you've already passed that point.
