I don't have a means to crack open the game nor did I have the energy to do so. However, I wanted a (mostly) accurate team preview thing for that specific puzzle for the enemy team, and I didn't know the abilities of the pokemon (but had a way to view them via entrainment). So. In order to get that information, I started a new file and rushed to that puzzle. I even beat the puzzle somehow while not even trying, so I can't even recall how I did it beyond that I switched out amoonguss a lot to abuse regenerator.

I didn't make a save file for it, but this game has autosaves and made a backup of that in progress run, so you can see what my team looked like. I found a surprise alolan marowak on my way through sorrow's path and it was very helpful. I also picked Croagunk, which started with Dry Skin and I'm unsure if that's hardcoded or not, but the rain on the route gave Croagunk a constant regen effect. I also ate a day because I died to a trainer and didn't care that much about wasting days when the file only existed for knowledge purposes.

Pressing left or right chooses the save file. There's my LP file!

We're exploring some of the Dreaming Halls today. Interestingly, this trainer actually has a real name, instead of a title like "Orphan" or "Gatekeeper" or etc.

Duosion goes down easy because bug types rule, but braixen forces us to pop a super potion on Forretress to keep it alive.

Still ...s at us after losing.

Galarian Rapidash! I'm not super used to the newer mons, so sometimes seeing a gen 8 mon takes me by surprise.

...Shit.

Okay, I'm at risk of losing my whole team if I stay in the fight, so I need to regroup here and get some stronger members.

Pelipper and Psyduck are the only bulky mons I have left who aren't fainted, so they'll have to do.

Amnesia saves Psyduck from being one-shot here.

Rapidash has been spamming tail whip and I was getting worried about Forretress, so I swap out to Pelipper before finishing. It ends up being a false alarm because I get hit with confusion instead (which Amnesia-boosted Psyduck takes gracefully), and I win the fight.

I talked to this tree to see if there were hidden goodies, and instead a pokemon cry plays.

Surprise trevenant!

Sorry Ekans, I don't have room on my team for a level 9.

Hex is a pretty good move. 65 power move that doubles to 130 if the target has a status, which most ghost types learn in the form of Will o' Wisp (which sadly has bad accuracy or it'd be a really effective combo).

The machines on this floor fade in depending on how close you are to them. Spooky.

Ashen Shard! That's our third one, so we can go back and get a prize. Also Zoom Lens, which boosts accuracy if the holder moves last. It's a 20% boost compared to Wide's 10% though, so Wide Lens is probably better unless you plan on running a slow team.

Nice chunk of change right here.

EVs and IVs don't exist as far as I know. The only way to customize you stats is via natures (natures give you an increase in one stat and a decrease in another stat), and now we have access to a shop that lets us change them. If any of our pokemon have bad or suboptimal natures, we can fix that now.

Take MARROW here for example; they currently have a +Defense, -Speed nature. That speed loss isn't great. However, MARROW is purely a physical attacker, and has no need for special attack. So we can choose special attack as our dump stat, and I opted to change the positive stat to attack so he hits even harder.

This floor has more on it but it's blocked by this asshole. I'm not taking on a level 44 Lugia at this point.

Back on the first floor is a more reasonable, yet still out of our league battle. This puts our Dreaming Halls visit to an end until we're stronger.

Oh hey, a chance to try out Trevenant!

We can do a funny combo by using Forest's Curse to turn a Pokemon grass type and then hitting them with a move that's super effective against grass types. Is it optimal? Probably not, it's probably better to just attack twice, but it works.

Unfortunately, Forretress doesn't handle fire types well, so I need to switch here.

Drizzle is a pretty good ability; rain on switchin means fire attacks are gonna be weaker.

Not that it matters of course.

Can never have enough great balls.

I love how this game teaches you mechanics or reminds you about them by telling you not to do them. Just in case you haven't been conversing with rocks this whole time.

Anyways we have enough Ashen Shards for a reward, lets turn them in.

: I've recreate an ancient Pokeball-enhancing device! With this, you'll find Pokemon easier to catch.

Give me.

: I just need 3 more until I can make you something else!

Yup. With this, Pokeballs are now as good as Great Balls, Great as good as Ultra, and Ultra is now as good as a Timer ball used after exactly 5 turns (or 15 turns before Gen 5, timer balls sucked back then). Very nice reward! Useful too, cause lets see the encounters!

Mostly poison types, nothing too impressive he- wait run that last one by me again.

You can find the different formes of Cosplay Pikachu in the wild, with different names. They aren't actually Cosplay Pikachu; they all have unique movesets and abilities and can't change costume. From my understanding? They're pretty good. I was going to keep them a secret until they became relevant but of course I find one immediately in the first place where you can encounter them.

Immediate spot on my team.

This psychic doesn't have a real name, unless he came straight from the reborn universe.

Pollen Puff is really good. Bug type moves are really good. Leech Life got such a glowup when it got buffed in whatever generation.

I'm almost certain the rock above these 5 great balls has something and I just neglected to check. I mean, look at it; it's grey and everything. Super sus.

The only non-oddish member of her team is a Phantump.

: The building looks like it has been abandoned for decades...

Unsure what to make of that.

We'll probably be getting rock smash and cut at some point since we've seen both obstacles on this route.

: Please do not disturb the Litwick memorial candles

We could catch a Litwick here, but if we do that the old man on the right barely out of view will vanish. I did that on my first playthrough and didn't find out what the deal was.

There's a boss trainer (judging by the gym leader music playing) blocking the way, but... I mean, we have a level 25 Trevenant. He's not really a match.

Ooh, a Charcoal item; this will be useful for any fire types we use. Tangent, but every time I hear Charcoal, I think of some webcomic I once read with an identical-sounding (but differently spelled) name that was Mystery Dungeon adjacent, where a human became a charmander. I'm unsure if that comic ever actually finished or why I'm even bringing it up beyond just talking into the void.

I sure did not.

I mean, yes, but considering I just killed a guy in front of you, are you going to believe me?

If we said No, we would have gotten an X Special Attack 6.

We get a Sun Stone for saying Light; supposedly we would have gotten a Dusk Stone for saying Shadow, but the spoiler thing also said we'd get a Dawn Stone for saying Light and we did not, so sayign Shadow might give you a Moon Stone instead and the guide might be outdated? Unsure.

We can get Litwick elsewhere. I don't feel like being a jerk to get one. Also spooky sparkle disappearing animation.

Most noteworthy thing in that battle was Smeargle trying to learn one of my moves. Cute.

Two TMs back to back! I never used Focus Energy, and figured this was a useless TM, but I looked it up and apparently, using Focus Energy by itself will give you a 50% chance to crit on regular moves, and anything that boosts crit rate further (held items or moves with increased crit chance or the ability Super Luck) means actual guaranteed crit. Fascinating! It takes a move of setup which is the big problem when a Swords Dance is probably more worth it, but being able to pierce defense, ignore your own lowered attack, and have a 1.5x crit damage bonus might have niche uses. Poison Jab is also a solid coverage move that a few mons can learn.

I find a Shred of Hope which immediately goes to MARROW to try and keep them relevant. Unfortunately this means Jigglypuff might be leaving soon withou having had a chance to shine.

Yet another tool at our disposal. Absolutely would have gone on Trevenant at the time given Leech Life, not that they seem to need it much.

Treasure???

These guys have a bit of bite to them.

I use my last PP of Leech Life to try and KO Tauros, no dice.

Ultimately they die from burn though.

Full Restore! Very nice.

I'm realizing I'm on the back foot here, so I go to swap out Jigglypuff for Galarian Wheezing. For who knows what reason, I didn't think to restore my PP while doing so.

The Witness??? The Hit Game (tm) of 2048???

Moron that I am, I did not refill Leech Life.

Everything was fine though.

Nice! We have all the elemental punches now.

A single neuron in my brain activated and I went to go refill my moves.

The Hungering, the hit sequel to The Shining that I just made up on the spot???

Chikorita goes down effortlessly, but Pinsir does some damage for the brief period it's around. Thankfully the battle doesn't last much longer after Pinsir faints.

Another Ashen Shard! 2 more to go before our next prize.

Beat-Up is a dark-type move that hits for as many times as there are unfainted pokemon in your party. Black Glasses are an item that boost the power of dark-type moves. Really funny items to be hanging around right next to each-other.

Healing up Bo-peep for this next fight.

So far, nothing too worrisome.

Lampent goes down in a single hit, and some decent damage is dealt to Sableye.

Get a nuzzle off to paralyze, and then...

Things start going south.

Things start going south real fast.

Duskull goes down, but out comes Unown with hidden power ground to ruin Bo-peep's day. RIP.

Now, I for some reason remember Unown being normal type when actually it's psychic. I waste a turn trying to stall the Leech Life disable out by using Will O' Wisp, and Psyduck dies for my idiocy.

I click hex thinking it'd be another stall move, and that's when I realized Unown is psychic. Fucking hell. I'm tempted to waste a revive on Bo-Peep just because of how solid a teammate they were.

Fearcage huh? Interesting.

: Her fear brought forth a Nightmare Child.

Oh dear.

: As they met its gaze, both saw through the cracks in reality. The Champion saw that he would never lose. The Shepherd saw that the world was already lost.

Is that the reason for the Champion's ego?

A Talking Cat!?!

We've got a blockbuster hit here, folks.

Life Orb is one of those amazing competetive items that I'm probably not good enough to recognize what makes good use of. Increased damage at the cost of recoil is either something that makes things die before they kill you or something that makes you more liable to a counterattack.

Level 40? That's pretty cool. Litwick and Dusclops can be found in some place called Boiling Cave (not to be confused with Molten Sorrow), Hypno in Dreaming Halls, and Absol in Feverthorn Jungle.

: Wild Pokemon in Skyspear Climb are much Higher Level.

This sign can't tell me what to do, because I can't read.

Keep your dirty unclean energy away from me!

My team is too beat up to advertise eco-friendly power sources. That, and we're at like 150 images now, and how can I be a champion of clean energy if I'm eating up people's data???

So either I can maybe heal up and take on the Baron, or I could go do Deepwoods which I'm probably overleveled for and maybe get a Celebi. Probably the latter.
