So there's been a bunch of updates in the month I took off; I recorded this part a month ago so we won't be seeing any of it just yet. Lets start off with this battle puzzle we haven't done yet.
Memory of Terror has a similar idea as Memory of Arrogance; we have a bunch of low-level goobers vs some high-level monsters.
Looking at the opponents moves and one of our own moves, you might be seeing a solution. Unfortunately, the first two mons we sent out aren't ideal, in that one of them is one we want out but won't survive a hit, and the other one isn't useful here and we need to find a way to switch them out in a way where we have both pachirisu and our star player out.
We can switch out Pachirisu here knowing that Electrode will see a supereffective hit on Slowpoke and go for it. Sableye's ghost typing means that Dugtrio cannot hurt it.
We can bring in Pachirisu and Follow Me, allowing Sableye to get off an attack despite it's hindering ability in Stall. By disabling Electrode's Electro-ball, it only has one attack it can use.
Explosion.
Dugtrio can't hurt Sableye until it runs out of PP, while Sableye can get a burn and use some Foul Plays to clean up. It took me a few tries to figure out how to get both Pachirisu and Sableye in, but once I figured it out things fell into place. Granted, probably didn't help that I was in a voice call watching the devs do this exact puzzle while testing out seeded rng, but, what can you do.
Oh hey, it's this duelist we haven't beaten yet. Do you love standing still and being murdered? No?
That sucks. I have a specially ordered Gliscor here just for you! He's a real hard worker. He's even great in toxic work environments thanks to poison heal!
You sure have, buddy. Lets head back to Queen's Garden.
You should enter this cave! There's cool stuff in there, you won't regret it! 4 out of 5 trainers recommend entering this cave!
Hey, didn't someone in Skyspear Peak have this line? Strange.
Gliscor is putting in some real legwork here. Acrobatics one shots a Victreebel 13 levels higher than it (yes I know it's because Perish Mode is bugged and the only thing scaling is how much damage I take, shhh)
Orbeetle is one of those gosh darn newer mons I'm not used to seeing. Apparently they hit decently hard!
Thankfully the dynamic duo can handle most threats.
Level 57 Scyther? Oof, that's scary. Better heal up.
Oh.
Nevermind! RIP Gliscor I guess!
I'm not playing around anymore, time to bring in the Pidg Guns.
...Shoot, Scyther can probably KO Pidgeot and they will go first. I need to do something.
Mimikyu priviledge Scyther goes down to an Aura Press.
Our reward for beating that trainer is a Light Ball. This is kinda huge given how strong Cosplay Pikas are?
Unfortunately Gliscor is down and I'm a cringe Memory of Triumph hoarder, but I want to bring them back, so we're going to be leaving Queen's Garden for a detour. Remember this Trainer? You probably don't, it's been over a month.
She's guarding something we want.
Absol is putting in really good work here; Sucker Punch almost KO's Latios and Sapphire manages to finish them off!
Unfortunately I didn't bother to heal Absol here, so Absol goes down before Sapphire finishes off Latias.
Our reward for beating two legendaries is a level 38 Shred of Hope. We'll be using that to revive Gliscor in a bit.
Since Absol fainted, I figure I might as well put their sacrifice to use and actually sacrifice them. However, we don't have all the ingredients yet; I forgot to do a catching roundup of Boiling Cave.
The main mons we want here are Litwick and Dusclops. Litwick we could have gotten all the way back in Farmlands, but opted not to out of respect for the dead. Dusclops and their pre-evo can be found in this cave; Dusclops is interesting for being one of the few mons who can be better than their evolution, as Dusknoir doesn't get that much benefit over just giving Dusclops an eviolite. Marowak's placement in the same cave as a necromancer is really funny; it does mean the Cubone we got at the start of the game isn't that special. I'm pretty sure Ghastly can be found in Sorrow's Path so this is just another opportunity to find them.
Alright, lets head over to fearcage to- wait who are you.
: It draws them to the Deepwood Shrine. Such callous angels. Their charge resigned. My Master with a monster is entwined.
...Huh?
: ...Don't mind me. Just working on a meaningless poem. Shall we play?
Oh, you're a shadow cards player. I see.
Hell yeah, high stakes!
: Works for me. That's not the price I'm worried about.
...What price are you worried about?
Of course we win the first game because I'm such a good card game player, obviously.
: That was actually kind of fun. This little fella could use a new home too. I'd say goodbye, but you'll be back.
I think Jaz is one of my favorites of the card game players. I can't describe why.
...Why is harmless highlighted? Eh, fuck it, high stakes lets go.
We win a Charizard card out of it.
Unfortunately, we lose the next one. I made a dumb misplay capturing Charizard in the bottom left on the side where wobuffet is stationed and can take a hit instead of the bottom right to protect Rhydon.
: Put more effort into this. Don't you realize what's on the line? At least try to win.
Ominous.
We win the next one though, and with it an Arcanine card.
: Guess it's time to go back. I'll see you at the Pokér Lounge. The Pokér Lounge is by far the best place for a gamer to test their skills in High-Stakes Play.
...I'm starting to get worried by the weird emphasis on High-Stakes Play.
: Fortunately, membership is invite only. And unfortunately, the owner will surely invite you.
Starting to get real worried.
Oh it's you.
: ... Marvelous. The final player returns to the Lounge. Now we can finally run another Tournament. Hurry back to the Pokér Lounge. We can't start the Tournament without you.
We will be covering the Tournament at some point when I'm ready. We will probably be challenging all the people in the Lounge first though.
Now for the actual reason I'm here: the Nightmare Child.
Dumb Insurgence reference.
Darkrai is the final mon that I know of with altered stats from base, with 20 more in each defense stat. The big selling point of Darkrai is Dark Void, a multitarget move that puts both enemies to sleep at a 50% chance for both. Being able to shut down the opponents ability to do anything is extremely powerful, and that accuracy is the only tradeoff. Definitely a good candidate for a Scope item. Nasty Plot powers up both Sludge Bomb and Dark Pulse so that Darkrai can sweep once both opponents are asleep. Not bad!
Lets bring Gliscor back from the dead and head back to Queen's Garden.
Yeah I agree, Gliscor is magnificent. Not an ant though.
There were 3 Ultra balls next to the Light Ball trainer too. Unfortunately I will not be doing a catching roundup of Queen's Garden this update; I want to avoid going overboard.
Our final Ashen Shard! We will be turning that in in just a sec.
Oh, another talking tree?
...You get to live. For now.
I mean... do they not? I guess they don't have monetary value, but like, surely there's joy to be found in stuff even if that stuff isn't unique or limited?
I think my infinite hoard of wild pokemon is more valuable than whatever 5 goobers you have, anyways.
Now, maybe your Pokémon would have survived if they had infinite health, but then their health wouldn't be valuable, would it?
No! Get your own, my skin is one of a kind, a collectors edition!
She has an entire team of Impostor Ditto. I might have some strategies for this, but for now I'll leave her alone. Lets go turn in that last Ashen Shard before ending the part.
: ready to challenge the Champion now! That's how the stories go, anyways...
Another badge upgrade!
We now get a 10% speed increase. Huh, you know, if we had an Impostor Ditto, that would be gamebreakingly good.
They sure are, my dude, they sure are.
