Simple intermission this time. Strega gets +3 armor upgrades, Shin Getter gets +1 to weapons, and the shiny Chobham Armor goes to Shin Getter as well.

Earth Route Chapter 4: Flying Metal Punch! Double Mazingers!!

[Tower Command Center]
It’s been five days since Shin Dragon vanished and we still haven’t found a single trace of it.
It has to be somewhere on the planet. We have no choice but to investigate every Getter Ray reaction one by one.
We have our limits. It will take some time to rebuild our lost firepower. Anything in Europe?
Yes, we detected something in Europe. I’ve already informed OZ and they’re looking into it. They have yet to find Shin Dragon.
OZ…

[Tower Rec Room]
Ah, I’m beat.
Oh Junko, how did it go?
Nada. No sign of Shin Dragon anywhere.
That was a bust. Still need to hear from Marbet and the Getter Team.
Oh, they just got back.

I’m sick of this.
Marbet and Kei, is something the matter?
We couldn’t locate Shin Dragon. But while fighting some Invaders, we came across an OZ scouting team.
When we combined into Shin Getter, he just screamed and ran away. What’s wrong with them?
Getter Robo is a legendary machine that played an active role in the Invader War. On the other hand, during the Saotome Rebellion 13 years ago, countless Getters became enemies of humanity. Maybe that pilot was there. At least if OZ keeps retreating like this, we won’t have to fight a pointless battle.
But if OZ decides to go after us, it’s going to be tricky.
Why’s that? Leaving Shin Dragon alone would be terrible for us and OZ.
True, but if they had that kind of common sense, they wouldn’t have staged a coup. They want to kill the Invaders, but they also want to kill us just as much.
Is everyone back?
Odelo, what’s wrong?
I can’t find Uso anywhere.
Uso?
Come to think of it, Uso’s Core Fighter was missing…
Hey, I can’t find Shakti and Karl anywhere.
They’re not planning to go all the way back to Kasarelia, are they?

Any luck Marbet?
Katejina knew. It seems they went to investigate a Getter Ray reaction.
What? I told them that recon missions must be done with at least two units.
I think he left even though there was no one else to go with. That’s what that kid is like.
Uso must have taken Shakti with him.
He’s like Kei.
What do you mean?
Not only Invaders, but OZ is lurking around here too. Can’t believe he left by himself.
Taking Shakti with you… That’s too reckless, Uso…
That’s what happens when the Count and Marbet get carried away... Marbet, Junko, Rim, we’re going to find him. Getter Team, stand by. I’ll explain the situation to Hayato.

[In the Mountains]
If only the sun were out, this would be quite the view.
Shakti, are you feeling better?
Yes.. Thanks, Uso.
No worries. I’d be upset if you didn’t feel better.
HARO. GOOD.
Haro is fine too. I can’t see any sign of Shin Dragon or Invaders. Let’s head home.

I didn’t think Shin Dragon actually existed. But since OZ and the League Militaire are trying to deal with it, shouldn’t we as well?
Lieutenant, we’ve spotted an attack unit belonging to the League Militaire.
Oh? Which one?
It appears to be solo.
By itself… That’s strange even for a recon mission. Anything else?
No.
…Well we have to go after it.

What the?
What’s wrong Uso?
Isn’t that a BESPA mobile suit squad? Why are they out here? This is bad…
BESPA’s here?
Seems that way. Hold on tight!

I can’t shake them.
Uso…

Shakti, get off and wait here.
O-ok
Uuuuuu~
Sorry Karl, please bear with it for a little bit.
SHAKTI. DISEMBARK. DISEMBARK. HURRY.
Uso… Be careful.
I’ll be fine. Leave it to me!

(When Uso enters the battlefield, he becomes a warrior. He’s getting further away from me…)

No doubt about it. It’s the same machine as back then. Is it the same pilot…? If that’s the case, then there was meaning in volunteering to track them down… All units, spread out and surround the target.

Uso starts out by himself in a Top Fighter against a lot of BESPA. Just hang him back, reinforcements will arrive soon.

On turn 3…

No way, why are the BESPA Yellow Jackets here?
Uso, you alright?
Marbet? Everyone is here!?
Hey boy, can you still fight?
Yes. I’m fine.
Ugh, League Militaire reinforcements?

Keep everyone together and take advantage of those support defenses. Especially Rim’s. Thanks to the armor upgrade I just gave her, the BESPA units physically cannot get past her beam coat with their beam attacks. If I was smarter, I would have put everyone in a forest. Didn’t seem to be necessary though.

Can’t touch this

You’re just a rank amateur!

Even Cronicle is getting in on the shield action. Gotta love Zanscare propeller shields.

Dammit. I can’t let myself get defeated in a place like this…

Once you’ve dealt with the BESPA goons…

BESPA has retreated.
Oliver, we have contacts incoming on our 10.

Super Robot Wars D - Theme of Z
(Liana, what’s that?)
(Doesn’t look like a mobile suit. Wonder where they’re from.)
Those machines aren’t from OZ or BESPA. Who are they?
Who the hell do you think you are? Didn’t you ever learn to introduce yourselves first!
He has spunk.
I’m Tetsuya Tsurugi in Great Mazinger. He’s Koji Kabuto in Mazinger Z. No military affiliation. We’re being pursued by OZ. I played the decoy to let my friends escape, but I want to get them to back off. Can you help?
Tetsuya, what are you talking about? You’re making a mistake.
It’s you who’s mistaken, Koji. If you heard their previous transmissions, they’re neither OZ nor BESPA. In that case, they’re not our enemy. Just think it out.
What was that?
Oliver, what should we do?
Now it’s OZ…

Wait, what!?
That’s… is that the “Tower”?
OZ forces are approaching! Form up and intercept!
Isn’t that Mazinger?
Checking the data… Seems so. That’s Mazinger Z and Great Mazinger.
Hahaha. Those are Photonic powered combat robots developed by the Kabutos. I’ve heard the rumors but never seen them in person. I want to see them fight.
Oliver, consider those two allies. Deal with OZ.
Roger.
What’s going on? Explain it so I can understand!
Cut it out Koji. They’re the League Militaire.
Correct. We’ll talk later. OZ is here.

They caught up already. Let’s go Koji. We’re outnumbered but we can handle it.
Got it! I don’t know about any League Militaire but I’ll show you Mazinger’s power!

Odelo, please fire the Boots!
Ok! Gramps, let’s launch it.
Firing.
Uso, incoming!

Alright.

[Mazinger Z]
The invincible iron castle is tough, but very vincible in this game. As the quintessential Super Robots, they hit hard and suck up EN like a vacuum. If you want to use Mazinger Z later in the game, be sure to max out his HP, EN, and Armor. Maybe throw in some barrier parts. What Mazinger does have is the Rust Hurricane attack, which lowers the defense of anyone it hits. There are very few attacks that can do this and it will be a huge asset later in the game. ASBA terrain so land him when you start actually fighting.

[Great Mazinger]
It’s just Mazinger but Great. Ol’ Great here has an extra gimmick. It deploys with the Great Booster attached which increases his Air rank to S (from A). You lose it if you use his Great Booster attack though. And it comes back if you put him in a battleship much like the Victory Gundams. Just be careful you don’t accidently use the Great Booster attack while support attacking. His Great Typhoon attack is the same as Rust Hurricane. It’s also worth mentioning that the Mazin Bros have multiple combination attacks with each other, but they generally aren’t worth using for their EN costs. If you want to use him, upgrade his HP, EN, and Armor like his older brother.

No OZ bosses so let’s just take them out. Unless you’ve moved the Gundams/Strega closer to where everyone else spawns, they won’t make it in time for any sort of help. Just putting the two Mazins next to each other in the forest (on the ground of course) is enough to not only survive, but thrive. At least at this stage of the game they won’t get hurt much. Shin Getter’s group will help a little bit, but it’s mostly a Double Mazinger beatdown.

After one turn…

Seriously, the Earth's surface is so annoying. But at least it helped save my life… So that’s the League Militaire’s “Tower”. It’s bigger than I thought.
It’s so defenseless in the middle of battle. I mean they are mostly civilians so I guess it is what it is…

Once you’ve cleaned up OZ…

OZ has retreated.
We’ll leave the area immediately. All units are to return to base. Bring in the Mazingers as well.

[Tower Command Center]
Oh man, thanks. You really helped us out. You’ve also picked up Sayaka, Jun, and my brother. I can’t thank you enough!
Thank you. I really appreciate it.
I was worried about what was going to happen.
Totally.
No no, thank you. I was able to see Photonic powered robots fight. They’re really interesting. If we were in a better situation, I’d like to take a closer look.
You know of Mazinger?
I know about you. Juzo and Kenzo Kabuto, and Professor Yumi too.
You know my dad?
As they say, a snake follows a snake’s path. Hehehehehe.
This is our commander Haya… Jinn Geneham.
(He was about to say Jin as in Hayato’s last name, but this makes more sense in English)
Jinn Geneham… I thought his name was Hayato Jin, but maybe I’m mistaken?)
…Let me express my gratitude. We may have been able to fight them off on our own, but that would have made the next steps harder.
I don’t mind. In exchange, you’ll be part of the Tower’s fighting force.
What did you say!?
Sorry for asking, but what’s this all about?
We were just thinking about needing to replenish our forces.
We won’t just do as you like!
You say that, but you probably don’t have many other options.
Wha…
What makes you say that?
The reason why you guys were wandering around here is because something must have happened. You were under attack and escaped or something like that. Who were you fighting? OZ? Invaders? BESPA? How badly were you beaten?
Good grief… You see right through us.
Can you tell us what happened?

…So in order for us to escape, the director…
I see… So Kenzo is dead…
I just found out he was my real father, and then this happened…
Bro…

Dammit! I’ll never forgive them!
What concerns me is the enemy who attacked you. From what you’ve described, it’s not OZ or BESPA, and it’s certainly not an Invader.
You don’t know who they are?
Nope. We’ve never heard of them.
Let’s check it out. If your story is true, they’ll prove to be formidable.

[Tower Storage]
Uso.
Yes.
You know why I called you here.
…Yes.
Listen, from now on I won’t tolerate any selfish behavior!
(That’s the same face my dad made when he was angry…)
You should realize that acting alone puts everyone else’s lives at risk. Just because you survived this time doesn’t mean you’ll survive the next.
Yes!
Grit your teeth. Put your hands behind your back. Plant your feet.

Eyes forward! Remember what I just said!
[Bright would be proud of that slap right here]
Ow…

Jeez, go easy on the kid.
That won’t do him any good.
Oliver…
I don’t want him to die. To do that, we need to quickly train him as a fully fledged pilot. It’s the least we can do.
…That Mazinger pilot is also pretty young. Also it seems that his younger brother is piloting a very strange robot. I can’t imagine the kind of fighting sense they have. It sucks to see our comrades die, but to send kids out to fight… It’s pathetic.

[Tower Rec Room]
So the one piloting Mazinger Z is Koji Kabuto, and Great Mazinger is Tetsuya Tsurugi. Diana A has Sayaka Yumi, and Venus A has Jun Honoo.
Koji’s younger brother Shiro is also riding some kind of robot.
Oh, the weird one. Wait, there were two weird ones.
Oh right. There was that guy they called Boss. He’s strange.
Boss? …What’s his name? His real name?
…Who knows.
It’s probably not enough to recover what we’ve lost, but things are getting more lively around here.

[Tower, Rim’s room]
(What’s wrong Chris?)
(BESPA and OZ… All those mobile suits had people in them.)
(...)
(I don’t like this…)
(I know, but if we don’t do it, someone else will. That’s the era we’re living in now. When we were in Antarctica, we only had to deal with Invaders.)
(Liana…)
(As long as enemies keep attacking us, we have to fight to survive. That’s what Bro said. If we could find a place to hide and wait it out, we might not have to do anything unpleasant. But is that right? Leaving things you don’t like to other people? Waiting for someone else to do something about it? I don’t like to live like that. Neither do you. Neither does Bro…)
(...)
(I don’t condone war and I certainly don’t want to fight in one. I think everyone feels the same.)
(Right…)
[Knock knock]
Rim, are you there? Can we talk for a sec?
Yes… What’s up?
Suzy and the others are worried. I know it’s hard for you, but we have new comrades. I think you should introduce yourself properly. About your… you know. We’ve heard the details from Joshua but…
(I think Bro explained that we have a split personality…)
(Right…)
(I don’t think the two of us are a split personality though.)
(But… it is what it is.)
(...You’re right.)
I understand.
Thank you. I think that way you won’t have to feel bad about it. I’ll go gather everyone.

[Tower Storage]
(Three Gundam types… And some spare parts. There are other machines besides the Stilva… Also those robots being pursued by OZ. It seems the info that the League Militaire’s main force being destroyed was accurate. Even so, they have this much fire power…)

[Tower Living Quarters]
(The only man who was giving instructions to the maintenance staff earlier is one of their leaders called the Count. Wasn’t Count Oy Nyung expelled from the Romefeller Foundation? There’s also Jinn Geneham who’s said to be the leader of the League Militaire. Was that really him? I’d like to check it out but I can’t get close to the command center…)
!
Karl, it’s almost beddy-bye time. Let me sing you a lullaby.
(Even a young girl and a baby are on board? Hmmm… This song…)
[Rumbling]
Kyaa!
(Oh no.)
[Catches her]
Are you ok?
Y-yes…
It looks like the shaking is getting stronger. It’s dangerous. Please go to your room.
Yes, thank you.
No…
[She walks off]
(That song… Why was that girl singing my sister’s song…)
