Video of this chapter

I know it’s a bit awkward to list the person’s name right after they introduce themselves, but I’m trying to be consistent. Just view it as a “Yakuza”/“Like a Dragon” style character intro.

Last time, we escaped a Meganoid and Jovian ambush on Mars and made it back to Earth.

Before the chapter begins, make sure to swap all of the Aestivalises to their 0G frames. The next map is on the moon and any unit considered “flying” uses their space terrain rather than air terrain, therefore making any Air Frames useless.

[Nadesico, Cabin]
According to your ID, your name is Tsukumo Shiratori.
We, the Anti-Earth Cooperative Federation of the Jovian Sphere Including Ganymede, Callisto, Europa, and Associated Moons and Asteroids, will never succumb to you evil Earthlings!
That’s what he keeps saying.
What do you mean by “evil Earthlings”!? Aren’t you evil aliens yourself!?
What are you talking about, evil Earthlings!?
By the way, I took the liberty of looking through his belongings. What’s all of this?
Ah, my treasures!
Treasures he says. No matter how you look at it, it’s just Gekiganger merch.
AH! That’s the legendary Super Alloy Gekiganger 3 Black Version!
Is that a life-size swimsuit poster of Gekiganger’s heroine, Nanko Kokubunji?
There are the kinds of merch that fans drool over.
I don’t get any of this.
It would take too long to write about what happens next, so I’ve put together a quick summary.

[Nadesico What! And Why]
Super Robot Wars BX - Naze Nani Nadesico
Everyone across the world, thank you for waiting. Welcome to “Nadesico What! and Why”. In this episode, I’ll be talking about the Anti-Earth Cooperative Federation of the Jovian Sphere Including Ganymede, Callisto, Europa, and Associated Moons and Asteroids…commonly known as the Jovian Federation. I, Inez Freeange, your “explaining big sister”, will be in charge of explanations, commentary, and more.
Question. What exactly is the Jovian Federation?
The Jovian Federation are the descendents of people from the early Space Century. They appealed for lunar independence, but in those days the rights for Spacenoids were not as protected as they are now. Their demands were refused and were thus banished from the moon by the military. This fact was then erased from history.
After that, we discovered ancient ruins on Mars and obtained the technology hidden within.
Later, they attacked Earth to get revenge on the evil Earthlings who drove them away.
Why Gekiganger?
One of the exiles happened to have a box set of Gekiganger 3. They watched it during their sad exile. Over a hundred years, Gekiganger 3 became their emotional support, their way of life, and their god.
So everyone in Jupiter is a Gekiganger maniac…
(Weren’t Takasugi and Tsukiomi different from the rest of the Jovians? Also Hokushin and his gang weren’t Gekiganger fanatics either…)
(After the peace treaty, they had more opportunities to see fiction other than Gekiganger 3, so maybe that aspect gradually died down?)
(…Maybe…)

[Nadesico, Cabin]
Whaaaaaaaaat! This is a travesty. I’ve been fighting people who live their lives based on Gekiganger 3! I’m so sorry!!
I hope you understand now. But it’s also true that the majority of Earthlings don’t know anything. That’s why we fight!
But doesn’t that make them victims too?
Look at the big picture. It’s true that they’ve attacked the Earth Sphere and killed many people, but we can’t blame ourselves for the original exile in the first place.
This is just like little kids fighting.
That’s right. They were going to kill everyone in that Martian colony! Dammit!!
Please stop. Hitting this guy won’t solve anything.
Exactly. We’re the Jovian Federation’s elite soldiers. We will never stoop to baseless violence!
But we can’t keep fighting forever. What if the Meganoids were to seize the Computation Unit in the Martian polar ruins?
What!? How do you know about that!? I only mentioned ancient ruins!
Ah… That’s… Um…
Anyway, let’s bring him back to Earth and have him testify. I’m sure the President and Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Relena would never do anything bad to him.
Don’t you dare! There’s no point in trying to make an example out of me! If that’s going to happen, I’d rather die an honorable death!
Don’t say that. Have more faith in Earthlings. The same Earthlings who made Gekiganger 3.
Mmm…
Alright. As an apology, let’s watch Gekiganger 3 together! I have every single episode!
You do!? There are some episodes missing from our archives.
Really? Alright, let’s make some copies of those for you.
But won’t that get in the way of copyrights?
Gekiganger 3 was made over a hundred years ago, so it should be public domain. Oh, Master Daigouji, please make me a copy too.
Garrison, I didn’t peg you as a fan.
I watched reruns of it when I was a little boy.

[Nadesico, Bridge]
Our next destination is Von Braun City.
Why go to Von Braun on the Moon?
Shouldn’t we go to Earth?
We’ll drop off the refugees at Von Braun City. It’ll be safer there than Earth, due to all of the invaders. We also need to resupply the Nadesico.
Okay. Nadesico, set a course for the Moon.

[Nadesico, Cabin]
Gai?

(Did he fall asleep? This is my chance!)
Gai, I’m sorry for betraying you, but I cannot become a prisoner of war. I will never forget that there are people on Earth who love Gekiganger just like you.

[Nadesico, Hallway]
…Good, no one in sight.
I’m someone.
Waaaaah!
Shhhhhhhh.
You’re escaping from the Nadesico, aren’t you? Come this way.
…Why are you helping me?
Hehe. Who knows?

[Nadesico, Deck]
That’s my Tetsujin! Why is it here?
We salvaged the wreckage and repaired it.
But it’s still barely functioning.
Fiona’s here! Hide!
What are you looking at? Another power source?
Yes. It’s amazing. It’s properly equipped with a Phase Transition engine. But it’s a lot smaller than the ones I’ve seen.
That’s right. All you know is the one on the Nadesico B, right?
Huh? Minato? What are you doing here?
Um…
Is there something in the cockpit?
I’m sorry!
Ahhhhh!
That’s dangerous! Are you alright?
Minato, why did you just push me out of the cockpit!
Isn’t that the guy from the Jovian Federation!?
They’ve found us!
Hurry, get in the cockpit. Take off immediately!
[Alarm] [Monitor turns on]
We just got an SOS from Von Braun. They’re under attack by the Jovians. All units, prepare for launch. Wait, why are Minato and Megumi over there!?
The prisoner has escaped!
I knew it. We can’t trust them!
Is he a prisoner if he escaped? Ah, roger…
Bridge, can you hear me? The prisoner took Minato and Megumi hostage and escaped in the repaired Jovian mech.
W-what’s going on?
Something else is going on at the same time. Oh well.
What’s your game? Are you defecting to the Jovian Federation?
Nope. I thought you might try to run away, so I thought I’d help set things up for you.
Why? Are prisoners allowed to escape on Earth?
Women's actions are always a mystery. But now what should we do?
How about we head towards Von Braun? Apparently the Jovians are attacking it.
Yes, you can escape there.
But in return, please stop the attack. There are a lot of civilians there.
…Okay. If that’s the case, then let’s hurry.

Nadesico B Route Chapter 6: GEAR Fighter Dendoh

My heart feels empty. I wish Earthlings felt the same love we do.
(Genichiro Tsukiomi)

Stop it, Genichiro! It’s me, Tsukumo Shiratori!
Tsukumo, you’re still alive? I heard you died on Mars.
I’ll explain later. Stop attacking right now. There are only civilians there.

There they are. They’re trying to make contact with the enemy.
I won’t let them get away!
Tsukumo! You betrayed my heart!
A battleship? You lied when you said there were only civilians here!
I’m not lying!

Genichiro, it’s me. Open up!
Shiratori, what’s going on?
I’ll tell you the situation when we get back to base. Withdraw the troops. I made them a promise.
How can I trust an Earthling’s promise?
Minato and Megumi took a risk to bring me here.
…Very well.
Minato, this is where we say goodbye. I’m sorry, but to maintain secrecy, we’re going to self-destruct the Tetsujin. Get off now.
Okay. Megumi.
On it.
Um, if possible… I’d like to take a photo…
Hehe… Sure. Here.
Thank you.

Well, they stopped attacking Von Braun City at least. But we still gotta fight them. Von Braun is actually some very good terrain with HP and EN regen, so make your way there and hold the line on top of the city. It’ll help in case any stray hits land and will keep Daitarn’s ENs topped up for their big attacks.

If you’re playing as Fiona, she won’t sortie for this first part for some reason, but Genichiro will leave. If you’re playing as Raul, he will sortie for this part, but you’ll have to fight Genichiro. I’m including his battle quote with Akito and his defeat quote just to be safe.

Akito, please stop. What’s the point of dragging on a way that happened over a hundred years ago?
You don’t understand, this is our war now!
Why do you fight, Akito?
To protect the Earth!
The UESN doesn’t want to fight!
Even the UESN, who preaches Total Pacifism, has an army!
But it’s not right. Akito, it’s wrong.
It’s not wrong at all!

You think justice will be defeated by evil!?

When all the Jovians are defeated, the plot continues…

Are you okay?
Yeah, we’re fine. But Shiratori went home.
Judging by how you refer to the prisoner, I think we need to hear the full story.
Enemy sightings confirmed.
There’s still more of them?

They’re not in Omoikane’s database.
Are they new Jovian Federation mechs?

Super Robot Wars R - W-Infinity
Is that the battleship Vega was talking about?
(Hokuto Kusanagi)
How should I know?
(Ginga Izumi)
That’s the Nadesico… It’s already returned from Mars?
(Vega)
There’s more!
Identification signal confirmed… It’s an ally.
Nadesico, can you hear me? This is Vega, Vice Commander of GEAR.
If you’re GEAR, then that’s Dendoh? This is the first time I’ve seen it.
You know them?
Yes. It’s okay, Captain. Just like Ruri said, that robot is an ally.
Oh, an Earth battleship? I see, so that’s why they're here. Damn you Dendoh.
(Altair)
Something similar just appeared.
So that’s another ally!
No, he’s an enemy!
Be careful, he’s strong.
It doesn’t matter anyway. I’ll crush that battleship!

Alright, we’ve got a new buddy.

[GEAR Fighter Dendoh]
Dendoh is very interesting. It runs off of giant AA batteries, so it cannot regain EN by any source except for going inside a battleship or by a specific unit we won’t get for a few chapters. Most of its big attacks are at close range, so get in close. Its finisher, the Final Attack (FA for short) uses up all of its remaining EN, but gains power depending on how much EN it eats. Dendoh also has another feature, but we’ll see that later.

Dendoh is way far to the north-east, so make sure to use Accel to get it to the fight ASAP. You’ll need to because something happens at the start of the next turn.

(Unicorn Drill)
What’s that? A horse? It’s so cool!
It’s Unicorn Drill! It was hiding in Von Braun’s computer.
Unicorn Drill?
Hokuto! …And you, Ginga! Get next to Unicorn Drill. This is your chance to Save it!
Oh no you dont. I’ll Save it before you!
Nadesico. Please provide support so that Dendoh can get next to Unicorn Drill!
Hey, you can’t just come out of nowhere and ask for help.
Now now, don’t say that. It might be a good idea for them to owe us a favor.
Okay. Excellence, heading out to provide support! Excellence Striker, standby OK… GO!

Fiona finally shows up, but she’s way behind on will so don’t expect her to do much.

Right now the primary objective is to get Dendoh next to Unicorn Drill. It’ll be game over if Altair gets there first.

Come, Unicorn Drill! You’re now under me, Altair. File Save!

Let’s not let that happen, shall we?

Speaking of Altair, he’s piloting GEAR Knight Ogre. It has much the same capabilities as Dendoh, so try to fight him at long range. He retreats at 30% HP (2790) so try to hit him with something strong like a Sun Attack. Ginga comes with Valor, which helps tremendously.

When Dendoh gets next to Unicorn Drill before Ogre…

Ginga, Hokuto, File Save!
File Save?
Hurry. Hold up your Gear Commander and shout “File Save”!
Okay. File Save!
Dammit!

Unicorn Drill went inside of Dendoh…
Install it!
Unicorn Drill, Install!

I see. So Unicorn Drill was a weapon for this Dendoh robot.

Now you can see Dendoh’s other gimmick, Data Weapons. Throughout the story, Dendoh will get access to Data Weapons which provides new attacks and other abilities. Unicorn Drill gives Dendoh a flat 25% damage reduction barrier at the cost of a little EN per incoming attack, as well as some new attacks.

Anyways, Altair’s dead meat.

Dammit. That’s all for today.
Don’t run away! Hey!!

The map is over when all of these mysterious aliens are defeated.

[Yumemitsuki, Cabin]
…I can’t believe it. I can’t believe that Earthlings would do something like that.
It’s true. Although there are people like Minato among Earthlings too.
(Minato…)
Huh? Why are you blushing? Do you have a fever?
(A fever… Are you telling me that she gave me a fever…)

[Nadesico, Bridge]
So you weren’t taken hostage after all?
Yes. I swear on my honor. I want to make that clear.
If that’s the case, then it’s even more troublesome. That means you intentionally let the enemy escape.
I won’t make any excuses. You can fire me or whatever you want.
What should we do, Captain?
That Shiratori guy didn’t seem like a bad person, so I know how you feel.
That’s a problem, Captain.
[Screen turns on]
Um, we just received a message from Earth. They want to know what’s going on.
I got it… It’s from Lady Une.
Nadesico, can you hear me?
(Lady Une) (On the phone)
Oh, hi Lady.
I heard the jist of it from Reika. We need to confirm who the Jovian Alliance really are.
So what about their punishment?
They will be kept in their rooms until you reach Earth.
That’s very lenient.
I believe their actions may have been an overall benefit. The UESN doesn’t want an unnecessary escalation of this war.
You’re saying this will become a political issue, so we can’t do anything reckless?
Exactly. Tell them they were only saved by these circumstances.
So what should we do with the Nadesico now?
I heard you met up with Dendoh. Take them to GEAR HQ on Earth. We’ll talk about the refugees and our future activities there.
Von Braun City took in most of the refugees, just as a heads up.
The Nadesico will now head to GEAR HQ on Earth.

[Nadesico, Cafeteria]
The Preventers?
They’re the intelligence division for the UESN. I act as a liaison for them.
Lady Une, the leader of the Preventers, helped the Nadesico decide to go to Mars.
I’ve heard of them. You see, the UESN has a policy of rejecting weapons, but with the invaders coming out of the woodwork, they can’t keep that same policy.
There are other groups like the AEUG in space and the Freeden on Earth. They’re starting to slowly increase their own military forces too.
It’s something like the “Unified Earth Sphere National Defense Force”, right? Seems like this idea is rustling some feathers.
(I’m going to abbreviate that to UESNDF.)
I guess we’ll be incorporated into this whatever Defense Force? Banjo seems keen to do just that.
I wonder why.
Oh, I’m starving. Hey, what’s wrong with you?
Ginga, if you make a fuss, you’ll just bother everyone.
Doubt it.
Are you kids the pilots for that Dendoh robot?
Yes. My name is Hokuto Kusanagi.
Ginga Izumo. Nice to meetcha.
Is Dendoh a two-seater?
Yes, it is.
What’s GEAR thinking, making kids fight like that?
I guess they didn’t have any other option. Dendoh chose us after all. Well, I can get why Dendoh chose me at least. I’m strong.
The enemy is approaching. The chosen boys get into the giant robot and fights them off. Damn, this kind of situation is classic. It’s the best!
…I didn’t get in because I wanted to. But I don't really have another choice. If we don’t fight, everyone will be hurt. Our town, our friends, everyone…
Yup. It’ll be fine. We can do it! After all, we’re its chosen warriors!
Must be nice being you, Ginga. You’re taking this in stride.
You just think too much!

[Nadesico, Bridge]
Thanks to you, we were saved. We’re very grateful for your help.
No, thank you for your help. So, who’s that group that you’re chasing?
They’re the army of the Machine Empire Galfa. They attacked Earth right after you left for Mars, so I’m not surprised that you haven’t heard about them.
More invaders? Seriously?

[Nadesico, Deck]
Earth… How do you both feel about this? What should we do next?
What else can we do? To get back to our own time, we need their labs to keep researching the Time Flow Engine and more Excellence Frames.
So it would be in our best interest to join the UESNDF.
Seems that way.
From what I’ve heard, they don’t have the budget to spend on unnecessary things.
We’re at war after all. The military gets the most budget. So we’ll research time warps in secret and, once it’s complete, go back to our original time as soon as possible.
Feels kinda scummy just leaving everyone behind like that.
But there’s no other way. We can’t make the truth public. We’ll just disappear out of nowhere. It’s the best thing we can do.
Yeah.

Yes, it’s just as I expected!
Oh, that looks useful!
What’s going on? What’s with that spear?
It’s the Aestivalis’ new weapon.
It is! I’ll name it the “Field Lancer”!
Cool name, but it’s just an ordinary spear, isn’t it?
It’ll be good against Meganoids or the Galfas, but its true value is revealed against the Jovian mechs!
What do you mean?
In a way, it’s a spear for use against Distortion Fields.
Indeed! This spear can nullify enemy Distortion Fields and hit them directly!
It was my brain that discovered the properties of Distortion Fields and created this as a countermeasure! Hehe… I’m afraid of my own godly talent…

[GEAR HQ, Command Room]
Thank you for your hard work on the long journey to Mars. I’m Shibuya, the commander-in-chief of GEAR. I’ll be counting on you all.
(Chief Shibuya)
No, thank you for your help.
Let me introduce everyone. I know you’ve met Vega, the Vice Commander, Hokuto, and Ginga.
Yes.
I’m Susumu Kirakuni. I’m going to be the pilot for the Dendoh’s support mech, but it’s still under construction… I was supposed to pilot the Dendoh, but…
(Susumu Kirakuni)
I’m Inoue, the mechanic.
(Dr. Inoue)
Since you’re here, I have to ask. What is Dendoh’s power source? I saw it on the way in, but it must be something amazing to move a robot like that.
Right, it’s powered by two Hyper Dendoh Batteries.
Batteries… Wait, batteries!?
Yes, like regular batteries. Just much bigger.
DENDOH RUNS OFF OF BATTERIES!?
Hahahaha. I had the same reaction.
Don’t make fun of batteries. One Hyper Dendoh Battery has enough juice to power all of Japan for an entire year.

You seem to be in shock. Well, cheer up. There’s bound to be things like this out there.
Yea, I wish it was solar powered or something.
Then it wouldn’t work on a cloudy or rainy day.
Not to mention at night. I’m Aiko Asano, the operator. Nice to meet you.
(Aiko Asano)
But Daitarn is solar powered.
Daitarn literally runs off of the light of the sun.
That’s so cool.
Let me introduce the members of the Freeden. They’re mainly on Earth working to protect Newtypes. Recently, they got information that Neo Zeon is gathering Newtypes as soldiers in preparation for another war. This is the Freeden’s Captain, Jamil Neate.
It’s nice to meet you, Captain Yurika.
(Jamil Neate)
Likewise.
I’m Sala Tyrell, the chief operator.
(Sala Tyrell)
When I’m out on missions, she’s the acting Captain.
Jamil is also a top-tier mobile suit pilot.
Not anymore. I was a man who was afraid of cockpits until recently.
I’m Toniya Malme, the radio operator.
(Toniya Malme)
Kid Salsamille. When it comes to modifying mobile suits, I can’t be beaten by anyone.
(Kid Salsamille)
Witz Sou. I pilot the Gundam Airmaster.
(Witz Sou)
I’m Roybea Loy, also a pilot. If I’d known there were so many beautiful women, I’d have joined the Nadesico.
(Roybea Loy)
Anyway, I’m Garrod Ran, the invincible mobile suit pilot.
(Garrod Ran)
You’re too loud. You’re embarrassing yourself, Gundam Boy.
What was that!?
Stop it. What’s the point in fighting during introductions? Forgive me, I’m Lucrezia Noin. I belong to the Preventers. I’m on the Freeden as a liaison.
(Lucrezia Noin)
It’s been a while, Noin.
Reika? I’m sorry that we had to help you out after you quit the Preventers.
It’s fine. By the way, how goes the Newtype protecting?
Not good so far. We’ve only got two of them, Amuro Ray and Tiffa Adill.
Even though they say they’re protecting me, I’m a pilot. The name’s Amuro Ray.
(Amuro Ray)
I’m Tiffa Adill.
(Tiffa Adill)
Are you a pilot too, Tiffa?
No, I’m not.
I’m Fa Yuiry, a pilot.
(Fa Yuiry)
I’ve heard you met the Getter Team on the way here.
Sorry for the delay, Chief.
(Hayato Jin)
That’s because Gai never stops eating.
(Gou Ichimonji)
I’m always hungry.
(Gai Daidou)
There’s a saying that you only need to be 80% full.
(Sho Tachibana)
Now let me introduce you. This is Colonel Hayato Jin, commander of the Neo Getter Team.
We’ve just assembled this Getter Team. There might be some friction.
Don’t worry about a thing. I’m Gou Ichimonji, the pilot of Neo Getter-1.
Sho Tachibana, Neo Getter-2’s pilot.
I’m Gai Daidou, the pilot for Neo Getter-3. Nice to meet you.
A fellow Gai. Even though our names are spelt differently, we’re still a bunch of Gais. Let’s get along.
(Nadesico Gai is ガイ. Getter Gai is 剴.)
But our Gai’s real name is Jiro Yamada.
That’s just a temporary name. Gai Daigouji is my soul’s name!
Where’s Nagare?
He wandered off somewhere again. Don’t worry, he’ll show up eventually.
I see. Anyway, from now on, you guys will be staying at GEAR HQ until the next mission is decided.
So we’ll be camping out here and only going out when needed?
Yes. Nergal is aware of this.
Fiona, would you and your friends like to be included?
I have no objections.
Then it’s decided. We are the United Earth Sphere National Defense Force.
Um, Chief?
What is it, Kirakuni?
Can’t we do something about the name? “United Earth Sphere National Defense Force” is kinda long and lame…
Exactly. That’s not the name of an organization that heroes of justice belong to!
Even if you say that, GEAR, Freeden, and even the AEUG, which are active in space, are all names of individual units. That’s the name for all of us collectively.
Nadesico is the name of our ship after all.
In that case, let’s come up with a new name!

…Eight hours later.
Oh my god! How long does it take to decide on a name?
Don’t be hasty. This name will last for a lifetime. You don’t want to regret it, do you?
Sorry for the wait. We’ve finally decided. Our unit’s name is…

The default team name is “Round Knights”. I could keep it like that, or…

Much better. Remember, “THE BOYS” is not gendered. It’s a vibe. A way of life.

We’ve decided on THE BOYS. I hope you all continue to do your best. That is all!
