Last time, the Shuffle Alliance and Zambot 3 joined THE BOYS.

[GEAR HQ, Hallway]
Okay Domon, this room is yours. Chibodee, your room is next to his…
Hey, why are Uchuta and I sharing a room?
My thoughts exactly.
It can’t be helped. More and more people are joining us. I’m even forced to share a room with Boss.
What was that, Kabuto? You got a problem with little ol’ me?
You snore so loudly I can’t fall asleep.
Man, it’s too rowdy here. At times like this, I’m glad we have our own rooms on our ship.
Hey everyone, good luck with the move-in.
Must be nice living in your own home.
You’d think that. My mom is so annoying and I have to lie to her every time we go out on a mission.
Wait, it’s a secret that you pilot Dendoh?
Heroes of justice always keep a secret identity. It’s always been like that.
I know, right?
But having to lie to my parents all the time is a bit…
(Hokuto…)
I’d imagine that’s rough too.
So let’s stop all the invaders quickly. Then Dendoh won’t be needed and you won’t need to keep lying.
Of course that’s easier said than done.
It’ll be fine. We’ve gotten used to fighting by now and we have so many new allies. At this point, I doubt anyone can beat Dendoh.
Such a bold proclamation.
It’s only natural. We’re its chosen pilots after all.
You keep saying that, but weren’t you freaking out when you first got into Dendoh?
Shut up. That’s in the past!
You pilots sure are loud.
(Eris Willamette)
Huh? Who the heck are you?
Let me introduce you. This is Eris Willamette. She came from GEAR America to help with Data Weapon research. She’s young but she’s also their chief researcher.
You’re kidding.
I look forward to working with you. Now’s the best time to get started. Hokuto, let me borrow your Gear Commander. I want to see the data on Unicorn Drill.
Unicorn Drill is the spear-thingy that Dendoh has on its arm, right? Doesn’t GEAR have data on it already?
No, not that data. She wants to see the Data Weapon itself.
The heck’s a Data Weapon anyway?
Now that you mention it, there are a lot of members who don’t know about the Data Weapons.
I guess now’s the perfect chance to talk about what Data Weapons are.
They might also know something we don’t.

[GEAR HQ, Command Room]
Unicorn Drill, Leo Circle, Viper Whip, Gatling Boar, Dragon Flare, and Bull Horn…
These are the Data Weapons. Six in total.
They’re sacred electronic beasts that can be used as weapons by Dendoh.
Such as Unicorn Drill turning into something kinda spear thing.
GEAR has been looking for them for a long time, but they hide in their digital forms and tend not to make appearances.
If their hiding place is destroyed, they materialize.
I know I shouldn’t be saying this after Saving Unicorn, but it’s all very strange…
I guess it can seem that way, but it is what it is.
Galfa is also after them.
Why do they want Dendoh’s weapons?
Because Ogre can also use them.
Ogre?

quote:

Wasn’t Ogre the black Dendoh-like robot that appeared when we first met?

Yes. Black GEAR Knight Ogre. It’s another GEAR that’s owned by the Machine Empire Galfa. Ogre can also Save and use Data Weapons.
(Note: GEAR refers to both the organization and the type of robot that Dendoh and Ogre are.)
So this conflict is all about the weapons?
If you want to simplify this whole thing, then yes.
(...But that’s not the whole reason…)
Now that you mention it, I’ve always wanted to ask something. Why does the enemy have their own GEAR?
Wasn’t Dendoh created by GEAR?

Dendoh is…not a robot made in the Earth Sphere.
What!?
A robot came to us from outer space. After we studied and made it usable, Dendoh was the result.
We still don’t fully understand Dendoh’s powers.
Is it from Galfa?
What do you mean?
If Galfa has another GEAR that they call Ogre…
Is it possible that Galfa created Dendoh?
Or could Galfa just be using something they came across by chance, just like us?
…I don’t know…
(Do you really not know? Or are there circumstances that prevent you from telling us? Not like it matters…)
Anyway, we need to capture as many Data Weapons as possible. No, in fact I want Dendoh to get all of them.
Dendoh’s weapons…
If Ogre gets its hands on a Data Weapon, its power will be directed towards us.
Hokuto, Ginga, the real battle has yet to really begin.
She’s right. Even though you’re its chosen pilots, the fighting will only get harder over time.
Everyone, please give them your support.
LIke you even need to ask that, Chief. We’re all comrades, aren’t we?
That’s right. Dendoh is for everyone and everyone is for Dendoh!
Not just Dendoh. Mazinger, Getter, Zambot, and Daitarn too. We’re all in this together.
So we’re all supposed to just play nice with each other?
That’s fine. Or maybe you would rather take on all the world’s evils by yourself.
Exactly.

[GEAR HQ, A Room]
Director, what the heck was that about!? It’s like you don’t think we can win by ourselves!
What, you think you can defeat Galfa, Gaizok, and Mycenae all by yourself?
I don’t see why not!
Calm down you two.
He’s right. Dendoh isn’t invincible. Plus we’ve only saved one Data Weapon so far.
Speaking of which, why is Unicorn Drill saved to your Gear Commander? Give it to me.
That’s impossible. A Data Weapon chooses its partner on its own volition. It will never leave someone once chosen. At least until the contract is terminated.
Contract?
I call it a contact, but it’s not anything physical. It’s bound to your heart.
When the Gear Commander detects a specific something in the heart of the person who wields it, the Data Weapon becomes attracted to that person and will eventually make contact.
So it’s like choosing your own master, just like how I chose Master Banjo.
So this contract-thingie can end?
Only when that person truly loses the one thing that the Data Weapon desires. Then the contract is terminated and the Data Weapon abandons the individual.
They just leave like that?
That’s pretty selfish.
Well, I guess that’s that. You can have Unicorn Drill, Hokuto. But the next Data Weapon is all mine. I won’t let you get ahead of me.
What a brat.
Shut up. Neo Getter is only useful until Dendoh gets all of the Data Weapons.
You wanna say that again, punk!?
I’m sorry. I’m sorry!
Hokuto, there’s nothing to apologize for.
Good grief. A brat who’s too cocky for his own good is a pain to deal with.
Everyone goes through a phase like that at some point. I’m sure you all did too.
You’re right about that. Think of it like measles that all warriors end up getting.
You’ll realize the truth soon, Ginga.

[Spiral Castle, Command Room]
You still haven’t found the Data Weapons or Dendoh’s base?
(The Spiral Castle)
Correct. We’ve sent out Chips of us three Generals to the surface for scouting.
(Giga Absolute)
After all, this planet has different forces that keep fighting each other.
(Giga Gourmet)
There are so many robots it’s hard to find which base has Dendoh.
(Giga Witter)
Are you incompetent generals rehearing your excuses for His Majesty?
Well if it isn’t Altair.
The next Data Weapon will be mine, no matter what.
Of course it will.
We should assume that Dendoh has teamed up with other Earth robots. If we hesitate, they’ll take the remaining Data Weapons.
Even if there are more of them, they’re still all Earth-made.
They’re not even worth considering as our enemies.
Is that what you really think? Then you’ll all perish shamefully.
Do you think Earth robots can beat you, Altair?
Don’t underestimate Earthlings. Have you already forgotten the battle on the Moon?
I was too distracted by Unicorn Drill.
Excuses. Just call me when you find out where the next Data Weapon will be…
…He’s so arrogant for someone made of flesh.
Only because he can use Ogre.
Just bear with it. We still need the GEAR’s power.
If only those with hearts can use them, then so be it.
We Galfa are already using it, in a sense.
But we still need to find the Data Weapons…
What’s taking our Chips so long?

[Hoshimicho, City]
Where’s the Data Weapon?
(Absolute)
Where?
(Gourmet)
Where?
(Witter)
Mommy look, a bunch of weirdos.
Shhh. Don’t point.
We have to get the Data Weapon for ourselves no matter what. Even if it inflates Altair’s ego.
But he’s the captain of the Royal Guard.
He’s more important than us.
Grrrrr… Huh?
This is…
A Data Weapon reaction!
(Absolute, Gourmet, and Witter’s Chip/Humanoid forms end their sentences with Dawa, Bari, and Jan respectively. I’m not adding this.)

[GEAR HQ, Hangar]
Mmmm…
You fell asleep while working, didn’t you? You’ll catch a cold.
Mmm… I passed out?
Of course you did. You’ve been working on that thing nonstop.
We haven’t seen you for a few days now.
Not like you’ve noticed.
Don’t say that. We’ve been getting a lot of new robots. It’s exciting to look into how they’re all powered.
Raul, come over here. I’ve just finished this.
What is it?
It’s a new Frame for the Excellence.
The Gunner Frame…
Yes. Thankfully, I’ve memorized the blueprint, so it wasn’t too hard to recreate.
Are you alright? To make this for the Excellence must have…
I know, but it’s hard doing nothing. If people die because I’ve been slacking…
Hmm? What are you talking about?
Psst, over here. I’ve found something very interesting.
What’s interesting?
So the Excellence has a replaceable frame and the cockpit can be used as a fighter jet, right? I think they’ve made it by studying Gundams and Aestivalises.
So what? Of course they’d study things that already exist.
By doing so, Mizuho came up with something original. Take a look at this.
…A Gundam for Newtypes… One that’s equipped with Funnels…

quote:

What’s this? An armored Aestivalis… And a proposal for even more armor!?

Interesting concepts, right? There’s some technical problems, but I think you guys can do something with this.
I see. Good job in bringing this to our attention. I don’t often see things like this.
Hehe. I’ve made copies in secret. Don’t tell Mizuho.
Aren’t you a little stinker. But I like this kind of thing.

[GEAR HQ, Command Room]
[Alarm]
A Galfa Machine Beast has appeared in Hoshimicho! THE BOYS are requested to head there immediately!
Perfect timing. I’ll resolve this fast and show everyone how powerful Dendoh is!

Chapter 9: Explosion! Viper Whip

Are you sure that there’s a Data Weapon nearby?
Absolutely.
Alright. Beasts, go wild! Reveal the Data Weapon!

And here’s Dendoh.
You’re not so scary anymore. After all, we have Unicorn Drill!
Hokuto, Ginga, don’t rely too much on the Data Weapons.
I know.
Just because you have Unicorn Drill doesn’t mean you’re stronger!
Just watch, Vega!

Uwaaaaa!
Hokuto! Ginga!
Battles aren’t decided by weapons alone! You think you can win just because you have a Data Weapon? You lack discipline, pilot!
Oh no.
T-this can’t be… We won’t lose…

You’re pathetic, Dendoh pilot.
Ugh…

Choose 12 units to deploy.

Dendoh!
Serves you right for being so rude. You’re just getting ahead of yourself.
Kappei, don’t be so mean!
We need to help them out right now!

The Data Weapon!
It’s Viper Whip!

(Viper Whip)
That’s a Data Weapon!?
What an interesting Data Weapon. Come here, Viper Whip. Come to Altair.
Ginga, he’s going for Viper Whip!

Okay. File Save!
Viper Whip. You know what you seek. Who will you choose?
Altair’s got it… What Viper Whip seeks is confidence. It’ll choose Altair!
File Save! Viper Whip!!

The Data Weapon went to Ogre…
They got it…
What the!? Why did it do that…
Viper Whip, Install!

Now I’ll show you the true terror of a Data Weapon!

Dendoh is in danger!
Now to show you Viper Whip’s true power!
Ah, ahhhhhhhh…
Oh no!
[Raul moves the Excellence between the two GEARs.]

NOOOOOOOO!!
Mizuho, please calm down. Trust in Raul!

That was close…
Confirmed that the Argent Fighter is safe.
Ah…
You see? Raul always makes it through these kinds of situations.
I trust that it’s ready?
Of course it is.
Tch, what a pointless interjection. I’m almost out of energy since I used the Final Attack. Count your blessings, Dendoh!

Hell yeah. Ogre is returning to base!
We’ll defeat Dendoh and capture Unicorn Drill.
And we’ll get all the credit!
Let’s summon more Machine Beasts!

Ah great, now there’s more of them.
Mizuho, prep the Gunner Frame! I’m coming in hot!!
Right now!?
Relax. There’s nothing I can’t do!

quote:

The Excellence is designed for mid-air replacements, right? I’ll get it done on the first try!

That’s right. Believe in Gekiganger and any success rate will be 100%!
This isn’t Gekiganger!
Mizuho, it’ll be fine. Trust in Raul.
Y-yes. Preparing it for launch. Give me a minute!
Ginga, Hokuto, are you alright?
Somehow, but Ginga is…
Uh… Ahhh… Ahhh…
[Dendoh’s will drops to 50]

Well, Dendoh is pretty much useless for this map. Park him in a battleship where it’s safe. Move everyone up and prepare for the Galfa to bang at your gates.

But at the start of turn two, when Mizuho finally gets the Frame prepped…

Gunner Frame, ready to launch!
Ready at any time!
Gunner Frame, launch!!
Align laser axis.
Argent Fighter, Block Change!

Insert, GO!
Gunner Insert!!

All transition systems complete. Time Flow Engine level A.
All drive systems are green!
Insertion complete! Excellence Gunner!!
That’s so cool! I want to do that with an Aestivalis!!
Oh no you don’t!! The Aestis aren’t made to be swapped in mid-air!
Don’t worry. With passion and determination, anything is possible!
No it’s goddamn not!!

Without further ado…

[Excellence Gunner Frame]
Probably the best Excellence Frame in the entire game (except maybe the final ones). It’s powerful, has long ranges, and is very energy efficient. Its only real downside is a lack of movement and mobility, but you can buff that out with parts. It’s a shame that Hit & Away doesn’t exist in this game… Expect to see me use this until the tail end of the game, barring certain exceptions and to show off the other Frames.

Anyway, the game plan now is to defeat the Galfa forces. You can turtle up in a giant mass or split your forces in two and meet them halfway on both flanks. Regardless, they’re really not that hard.

Once all the Galfa are defeated…

We’ve finally found them again. Today is a good day.
Brother, there are a lot of robots I’ve never seen before.
I haven’t seen them either. But fight them we must.
It’s Rakan and his men!
They’ve followed us all the way to Japan.
What’s up with those guys?
They’re the ones who were holding Amuro, Tiffa, and other Newtypes.
You’ve got to be kidding me. I won’t give Tiffa to the likes of you!
Men, turn them all into rubble!
Interesting. Just try it if you can!
We’ll fight back!

These guys just don’t know when to give up. Regardless, they’re really not that hard. For the bosses, make sure to get in close because the Frost Brothers have long ranges.

If you’re going to fight, why not fight for Lady Haman?
Why are you so indifferent about the sorrow that war creates!?

We’ll kill you and send you straight to Heaven. That’s what we brothers wish for.
You can’t just wish things for us without our consent.

We brothers have never lost except for our last battle. Our brotherly bond will not allow this trend to continue.
You’re being selfish! You’re to blame for kidnapping Tiffa!

Shagia and Olba retreat at 30% HP (2520 and 2835 respectively) like they did the last time. You can try to knock them both out with a MAP Satellite Cannon, but I always opted to go for one of them.

You’re pretty good. Olba, let’s retreat.
Wait, brother. I can still fight!
We won’t meet our end here. You get what I’m saying?
…I understand, brother.
[The Frost Brothers either leave and/or explode]
What’s wrong with those assholes? Come back here!

Thankfully, Rakan won’t retreat. He’s simple enough to defeat.

The map ends once all Zeeks are defeated.

[Freeden, Bridge]
I knew this would happen sooner or later, but Neo Zeon finally made it to Hoshimicho…
There’s an Alternative lab nearby. They’re probably using it as their base.
Geez. There’s such a thing as being too persistent.

It’ll be fine. I’ll protect you, Tiffa.
…Mmm…

[GEAR HQ, Command Room]
We totally lost… They took the Data Weapon too.

Where’s all that smack talk? You’ve talked the talk and now you need to walk the walk.
Kappei, stop it.

…What’s the matter? Have a go at me like you did before. Where’d all that energy go?

…Hey! Say something, idiot! Say something! This isn’t you!
Shut up!
Oh dear, he stormed out.
Wow, he’s super depressed.
…What’s wrong with that idiot…
You’re all idiots.

[GEAR HQ, Hangar]
Sheesh. The Striker Frame’s in ruins!
That’s just how powerful a Final Attack is.
Can you fix it?
It’ll be good as new before you know it.
Don’t push yourself too hard. You’ve already hit your limit making the Gunner Frame.
I’ll be fine. I’m pretty good at doing this.
Mizuho.
Yes?
Thank you. You saved me.
N-no. This much is…
Raul, this is the perfect time to give her a hug and kiss.
W-what are you talking about? Not me and Mizuho!
I-I’m going to start fixing the Striker Frame.
Whoa, they’re both blushing hard.

[GEAR HQ, Command Room]
Where’s the Vice Commander?
Vega’s gone home.
Wait, Vega doesn’t live at HQ?
She can’t. You wouldn’t believe that she even has a kid… Ah dang it!
Commander, what’s wrong?
N-no. It’s nothing.

[Hoshimicho, Ginga’s Residence]
I’m home…
Gin! Where were you at this time of night?
(Midori Izumo)
M-Mom!

[Hoshimicho, Hokuto’s Residence]
The neighbors are as lively as ever.
(Orie Kusanagi)
Mom, I’m home…
Welcome home. Are you hungry?
Mmmm…

[Hoshimicho, Ginga’s Residence]
He was probably wandering around with that kid next door! And this late at night too!

[Hoshimicho, Hokuto’s Residence]
Ah… That’s right! Where were you this entire time?
Um… Well…
(Dendoh’s a secret after all…)
(...Hokuto…)
