Video of this chapter
Last time, we fought some Mycenae and had to mercy kill a fool. Raul decided to board the Freeden to go attack a repairing Bandok.
[GEAR HQ, A Room]
Tiffa is staying behind?
Yes. She’s not a combatant, so she’ll be safer here.
I agree… I guess I’ll buy her a souvenir then. What do you think she would like?
We’re not going on vacation. We’re going to fight. Do you fully understand what that means?
I know… By the way, where in the ocean is Gaizok hiding?
Somewhere among the islands to the south. There are a lot of islands down there.
(TL Note: They call this place 千鳥列島, or the Kuril Islands. Those real life islands are northeast of Hokkaido, spanning between Japan and Russia. I opted to go with what the map in the next few cutscenes say. Unless this is actually referring to a Zambot-only fictional location that’s south of Tokyo.)
I’m glad it’s not that deep over there. I was worried they’d be hiding in a palace too deep for us to reach.
[GEAR HQ, Hangar]
Roybea, it’s finally complete. Behold the Gundam Leopard’s underwater “S-1” option pack.
Very nice. Now my Leopard can fight underwater. Though it’s boring to be on watch while at sea.
Shame the GX and Re-GZ are awful at underwater combat.
I’d like us to have an underwater mobile suit if possible.
You’re right. It would be nice if we just had one lying around.
It’ll be fine. Getter-3 will take the lead on this one.
Yes you will. There’s no point in asking for things that don’t exist. The Mobile Suits will provide support from the rear.
Mizuho, is this a new Frame?
Yup. This is the “Diver Frame” for the Excellence. Its focus is a pressure-resistant Frame that I’ve previously talked about.
Everyone, it’s tea time.
Thank you, Garrison.
Isn’t it inconvenient to have to change the Frame every time?
Sure wish you could freely transform like our Getter.
The Getter’s transformation system is way too complicated for me. I’m not at that level yet.
Transformation systems are very difficult to imitate.
Transformation shamsformation. It’s fine as long as it’s strong.
Hear hear.
Anyway, this battle will be focused around underwater combat. I’m counting on all of you.
Leave it to us. As long as they’re not at a depth of like 10,000 meters, there won’t be any problems.
Yeah. Let’s do our best.
(...Is this where those two will…)
Um, is something the matter?
N-no, it’s nothing. Mizuho, can you tell me more about the Diver Frame?
Okay, let’s go to the cockpit.
I don’t know why, but sometimes Raul stares at Uchuta and me.
Have you met him before?
Now that you mention it, they sometimes act like we’ve met before, but I don’t remember them at all.
Maybe they’ve just heard of you. You are famous after all.
The following scene is Raul-only content.
I just can’t stop looking at those two kids.
I mean they’re going to die in battle against Gaizok. Poor Uchuta and Keiko…
So anyway, so this is the pressure-resistant frame you were talking about before?
Yes. It’s intended for deep-sea rescue.
…When you think about it, rescue mechs need to have more than just weapons on them.
You need to consider the nature of each mission after all.
…Are you really okay with this?
What do you mean?
You warped your original rescue idea and turned it into something for underwater combat.
It’s fine. In a way, this will save lives too.
How so?
I mean… Anyway, I know you’ll be able to use this to save lives.
Yes, of course. Not just my own life. THE BOYS fight to protect the futures of so many people.
That’s right.
(...Raul, don’t do anything reckless. This Frame was made to protect you…)
The following scene is Fiona-only content.
quote:
Ah hell. I don’t know how to interact with those two. The fighting hasn’t been that bad so far, but…
Uchuta and Keiko might die in this upcoming battle…
[Hoshimicho, City]
Gaaaaaah. Why can’t we find any more Data Weapons?
We can’t find crap.
But even if we did find one, Lord Altair would just get all the credit…
But if we don’t find one, we’ll be discarded like trash.
Arrrggh. This is making my head hurt. Oh!!
What’s up?
Look over there.
That ship belongs to Dendoh’s group.
The Freeden. You can see Dendoh on its deck.
They must have found a clue about a Data Weapon.
We must go after them!
But we don’t have a ship.
We’ll swim after them.
Alright, let’s do this!
[Freeden, Rec Room]
Hey Roybea. It’s rare for you to play billiards.
Oh, hi Witz.
Hokuto’s pretty good at this game. Try playing him later.
How about right now? Let’s see what you’re made of.
Please go easy on me.
[Ocean]
Are we there yet?
Just keep swimming.
I’m starting to get tired.
Salt water is terrible for us machine lifeforms.
[King Beal, Bridge]
Thank you for coming. It’s a pleasure to be working together on this.
Hey Gramps!
Grandpa!
Kappei, I hope you’re not annoying everyone.
Of course not. We’re helping out as much as we can.
Let’s just leave it at that.
Bark!
(Chiyonishiki)
Chiyonishiki, how are you doing, you good boy you?
By the way, any updates on the Bandok?
No movements so far. Here’s the data I have. I’m counting on you.
Just leave it to us, pardner.
[Freeden, Rec Room]
W-what the heck?
Haaaah… I won somehow.
Told ya. He’s strong.
Dang it. I let my guard down just because you’re a kid. Next time, I’m going all out.
What are you doing here? We’re almost at the Bandok.
We’ll pick this up again after we deal with Gaizok.
[Bandok, Command Room]
Yea yea yea. I’m the greatest villain in all of Gaizok, the renowned Butcher! Hehe, my singing voice is in peak condition. Now, just one more song…
Butcher… Killer the Butcher…
S-s-sir! Lord Gaizok!
Have you forgotten my words already? Quit fooling around while waiting for repairs to finish.
I-I-I know that.
Then why haven’t you noticed them yet?
Noticed what… Eeeek! A human ship’s approaching!
[Freeden, Bridge]
We’ve found the Bandok’s shadow. They’re about 300 meters deep.
Just like what Heizaemon said.
300 meters deep, huh?
At least it’s more shallow than we thought.
Enough for Dendoh to hit it at least.
Freeden Route Chapter 13: Battle at Sea
Butcher! Come out instead of your Mecha-Boosts! If you won’t, then I’ll drag you out.
I have this new underwater pack. Let’s try it out.
I’ll go too. Excellence Diver, standby OK… GO!
We won’t fall behind. CHANGE GEEEETTTTTEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRR 3!!
There’s enough deployment slots to deploy everyone.
Hey, look at that!
They’re fighting something.
So there must be a Data Weapon somewhere around here.
We’re not getting any readings though.
If you keep saying that, we’ll lose to Dendoh again. I’m calling for some Machine Beasts!
Of course, the new “mechs” first. I say “mechs” because they’re just new Frames.
[Excellence Diver Frame]
This is without a doubt the worst of the Excellence Frames. It’s even excluded from the OG games. It’s even more close ranged than the Striker Frame, but without any good terrain ranks. Water specialization isn’t needed in this game barring a few stages, and even then you’re probably better off using the Gunner Frame with a Minovsky Craft or the Flyer Frame.
[GT-9600+S-1 Gundam Leopard]
You know for being a secret in this game, this is actually kinda bad. You won’t ever use this outside of this one stage. I do think it’s cool for the novelty, but it’s really bad for the vast majority of stages. If only it could be purged, but this option pack doesn’t even work with the Leopard’s mid-game upgrade. You won’t be missing this if you choose to go the other route.
As a heads up, you only get the S-1 Frame for Gundam Leopard if you take this route. You do not get it if you go with the Nadesico.
Cannonball into the water, because the first part of this stage is all about water combat. Thankfully, there’s very little the Gaizok enemies can do against underwater enemies. Only the Bandok will deal any reasonable amount of damage. That being said, you’re really just limited to the Excellence Diver, Gundam Leopard S-1, Neo Getter-3, Zambot 3, and Daitarn 3 for attacking. Beam attacks are guaranteed to deal 10 damage to any underwater enemy (20 if you use Valor). Dendoh has a few attacks that have A in water. You could bring the Methuss and Cell Fighter for healing and resupplying too.
Butcher! You’re not running away today. Prepare yourself!
You little brat. Die already.
Butcher runs at 30% HP (6000). Neo Getter or Excellence should have Valor access at this point which will help. Also Dendoh’s Final Attacks have A ranks in water.
Oh crap. If we get any more damaged, Lord Gaizok will get pissed. Retreat! We’ll find someplace more remote to make repairs.
Hey, don’t run away. Coward!
But the map doesn’t end there.
The Bandok is ascending rapidly. At this rate, it’ll breach the atmosphere.
The Freeden can’t chase them into space… They got away.
Dang it. Let’s go after them!
Captain, numerous objects are falling from space!
More Mecha-Boosts? No, that’s not it.
It’s Galfa! Why are they here?
Who cares? We’ll just kick their butts!
Is there a Data Weapon nearby? Have you noticed anything wrong with the computer systems?
No, nothing’s amiss.
Same here.
So they’re just after Dendoh!?
Huh? Where’s the Data Weapon?
Aw crap.
…So there wasn’t a Data Weapon after all.
Where could they be?
You can’t even do the simple job of gathering intel? Well whatever. These guys keep getting in our way. I’ll use this opportunity to crush them.
And now the Galfa’s here. Same ol’, same ol’. But now Ogre’s sporting a new Viper Whip, which increases its combat options. As an aside, if there are any Gaizok enemies remaining when Butcher runs/explodes, they’ll stick around and will need to be defeated.
Let’s go. Get ready!
Ginga, be careful
What’s this? You're fighting a little bit better now.
Ugh… What’s this feeling again?
Altair!
Ogre retreats at 30% HP (2929). A very easy threshold to beat on land.
Since there’s no Data Weapon, there’s no point in staying here any longer!
The map ends when all enemies are defeated.
[GEAR HQ, A Room]
…
Is something wrong?
…It’s nothing.
Hmmm… Are you lonely because Garrod isn’t here?
Eh? I-I…
(A prince riding in on a white Gundam…)
Hokuto and Ginga haven’t come back yet, have they?
Oh, are you lonely too?
Not really. I can’t analyze the Data Weapons without their Gear Commanders! It’s hard to plan without them.
Oh my.
[Freeden, Bridge]
The Bandok has left our range. They’ve escaped into outer space.
Dang it! If only those Galfa jerks didn’t show up, we could have finished them off.
There’s no point in complaining about it.
Right. Let’s head back to GEAR. They might have some new information.
[Spiral Castle, Command Room]
What a waste of time. You call this good information gathering?
Harsh, but accurate. Our apologies, Lord Altair.
It must be easy being a castle. You don’t need to do much.
[Alarm]
What? An enemy attack?
Bad news. Lagou has escaped!
What? Lagou did?
Lagou is His Majesty’s precious pet that he entrusted to us. If he escapes and gets hurt…
Capture him no matter what. Make sure he’s unharmed.
Good grief…
Lord Altair, where are you going?
I’ll help you find Lagou. I somehow doubt you’ll be able to capture him unharmed.
Grrrr.
[Bandok, Control Room]
Grrrrrrr. Damn you THE BOYS. I’ll never forgive you for damaging the Bandok.
Well, aren't you a bossy one?
Who goes there!?
The name’s Tis. Nice to meetcha.
(Tis)
Tis? Where did you come from?
I got permission from Gaizok to be here.
W-what did you say?
She speaks the truth, Butcher. She’s my guest.
Why would you do something like that… You don’t mean to replace me with her!?
Wouldn’t dream of it. I’m just a helper, so to speak.
A helper?
That’s right. Uncle, I’ll be looking after you from now on.
Y-you expect me to work with a little girl!?
It’ll work out. If we join forces, I’m sure we can destroy all of humanity!
Hmm…
While you think about it, let’s go to the Moon.
Why the moon?
There’s a place called the Spiral Castle over there. We’ll go and say hello. And by hello, I don’t mean attacking them.
(Just what is she planning…)
[King Beal, Bridge]
I see. So they got away.
Sorry about that. We just didn’t have enough power.
Don’t worry about it. There will be another chance.
In the meantime, we’re returning to GEAR.
Sure. Do your best out there.
[Freeden, Bridge]
Now that I think about it, I wonder how the Nadesico is doing.
I just got a call from them. They’ve safely joined up with the Combattler Team. Apparently the one destroying everything was a fake after all.
I thought so. It was probably a Campbellian plot.
The Campbellians and Combattler V have been fighting each other for a long time.
Combattler V, huh? I can’t wait to see all that Super Electromagnetic technology.
That’s fine and all, but don’t you dare dismantle Combattler.
…Why not?
You serious?
[Raft on the Ocean]
…They’re going home.
So should we.
But which way is home?
It doesn’t matter! Just keep going straight and we’ll find land eventually.
Why did we come all the way out here again?
