Video of this chapter
Last time, we recruited the almighty Kerott to THE BOYS. Also Combattler.
[Underground Castle, Command Room]
Lord Heinel, the homeland has sent us a scientist.
(Katherine Rii)
I see. Katherine, let’s help him out to create the strongest Beast Warrior yet.
Yes… But…
What’s the matter? Are you dissatisfied?
The scientist is Kentaro Go.
Yes, that is my name.
(Kentaro Go)
You can’t be--
Yes I am. I am the father of the Go siblings on the Voltes team.
Their father… Why are you siding with us against Voltes?
I acknowledge that I am their father and I was the scientist who created Voltes V. But now I’ve dedicated myself entirely to Emperor Zambajil.
His Majesty the Emperor told me that he will surely help with dominating Earth.
Hmm… Professor Go, do you have a plan to destroy Voltes?
Yes. I’m the one who created Voltes, so I know it better than anyone else. With my knowledge, I will create a second Voltes that’s better than it in every aspect.
A second Voltes?
Yes. Voltes is Boazan’s greatest enemy, but will soon be reborn as our greatest ally.
Sounds interesting. Get to work on Crow Island right away.
Sir!
Lord Heinel, even though His Majesty sent him to us, is it really okay to trust him?
I agree. He is the Go sibling’s father after all. It’s possible that he’s pretending to be on our side.
Jangal, do you believe His Majesty was tricked by him?
N-no, not at all.
You do have a point though. But we mustn’t forget that he is human. Only a human could do something so stupid as to kill their own children.
Indeed. It’s not uncommon for humans to betray their own family.
They lack the heart to trust and love others. That’s why they’ve been fighting amongst each other the entire time.
I couldn’t agree more.
[GEAR HQ, Command Room]
There’s a Boazan base on Crow Island?
Yes. A ship that was passing by spotted it.
What exactly did the communication say?
“We’ve discovered a Boazan base on Crow Island. We’re under attack”. And that was the last thing they sent out.
Strange. It must’ve been a civilian ship.
So a civilian ship just happened to discover a Boazan base of all things and still had the time to report it?
Do you think it’s a trap?
We’re probably just overthinking it.
Maybe their lookout was sleeping.
Doubt it.
What kind of place is this Crow Island?
It’s an uninhabited island located southwest of Japan.
The perfect place to make a base.
This is such a pain. Let’s just go and see for ourselves.
Exactly. Deploy THE BOYS!
We’ll wait until the Freeden returns.
Yup. We should go at full strength.
What are they up to anyway?
They’re on their way back. Unfortunately, they weren’t able to finish off the Gaizok as they escaped into space.
The Freeden can’t go into space after all.
Any injuries?
Several units were damaged, but no casualties.
But since they’ve escaped, they’re bound to attack again. I believe we should have put an end to them, even if it means sacrificing some allies.
That’s outrageous.
Just drop it. There’s no point in arguing about what already happened.
That’s right. We should instead prepare to launch as soon as they return.
I agree. In sharpshooting, if you worry about your last mistake, the next shot will miss too.
Commander, emergency call from Dr. Sakonji at the Big Falcon.
Director Shibuya, my apologies for this sudden request, but please chase after Voltes immediately.
(Kozo Sakonji) (On the phone)
What’s going on?
You’ve heard the report about Crow Island. Upon hearing it, the Voltes Team left to go there.
Why did they jump the gun like that?
We also received information that the Voltes Team’s Go siblings’ father was captured by the Boazans.
That’s why they did that?
Yes. Please bring them back right away. If it really is a Boazan base, they’ll get themselves killed.
Okay. We’re sending the Nadesico right now.
Thank you.
You heard the man, Yurika. Head to Crow Island right away.
Sure. Understood!
[Oniwa Castle, Hall of Worship]
Lady Janera, Voltes V and THE BOYS have begun to move.
Hahahaha. Fools. They don’t even know they’ve been tricked.
Dungele, deploy. When both the Boazans and THE BOYS are exhausted, we’ll attack!
Ma’am!
[Crow Island]
Umm, where are we?
Where are we?
Where are we? I thought we were heading to Japan.
We must have been brought here by the currents.
We lost the Freeden and we got our butts kicked. Hmm?
T-this reading!?
It’s a Data Weapon! Yes!
[Spiral Castle, Command Room]
My lord, the Chips have sensed the presence of a Data Weapon.
I wonder. The last time they “detected” one, it was just THE BOYS and Gaizok fighting. This is probably another false alarm.
T-that’s…
Make sure a Data Weapon really is there!
S-sir!
[Crow Island, Command Room]
How’s Kentaro’s work going?
Sir, he’s incredibly enthusiastic.
At this rate, the second Voltes will soon be completed.
Fufufu. This new Voltes will surpass the first one in every way. Once it’s complete and becomes part of our army, we’ll have practically conquered Earth.
The Emperor of Darkness and Janera will tremble before our power and bow down before us.
The Dinosaurs lost any power they had when they lost Gore. Nothing can stand in our way now. Hahahahahahaha!
[Alarm]
What is it?
Lord Heinel, Voltes is coming this way!
What? How did they find our base?
Is it only Voltes?
Only Voltes. Lord Heinel, this is our chance. Let’s gather all of our forces here and finish them off once and for all.
Very well. Prepare to intercept!
Ah! W-what the heck?
What’s wrong?
The base’s defense systems aren’t working properly.
What? Impossible. Get out of the way! …Grrrr. What’s going on!?
I don’t know.
How could you not know!? You made the damn thing!
Both of you, quit bickering!
Lord Heinel, there’s something like a virus in the base’s computers.
Utterly impossible. A Boazan computer can’t be affected by an Earth-made virus.
W-what the hell is that?
The virus looks like a cow?
…
(Bull Horn)
Lord Heinel, Voltes V is very close.
Mmm. Don’t get cocky. Jangal, engage Voltes V! Kill them!
Sir!
Nadesico Route Chapter 14: The Emperor’s Present
Is this the Boazan base?
(Kenichi Go)
I can’t see any buildings like that.
(Hiyoshi Go)
Of course you can’t. It’s a secret base for a reason.
(Ippei Mine)
Look, something’s coming out from the ground!
(Megumi Oka)
Boazans!
(Daijiro Go)
So this was a secret base after all!
Hahaha. Voltes, today is a fine day for your death.
Let’s go, everyone! We’ll destroy this base and get our father back!
Pops, just be patient for a little while longer!
Hmm? Do they know Kentaro is here?
New unit!
[Voltes V]
It’s just like Combattler but with different attacks and I think slightly more EN usage in exchange for more power. Even so, I somehow like Voltes combat-wise more than Combattler in this game. The two of them do get a really powerful combo finisher with each other which helps defeat bosses before they retreat.
Just wait a turn in place.
At the start of turn 2…
Deploy 13 combatants.
We’ve found Voltes V!
Enemy reinforcements? How boring.
What the heck is that?
Wow, there’s a bunch of bad guys!
Kenichi, going off by yourself is kinda lame.
Hyoma! So these are THE BOYS?
The Nadesico will be providing support!
We’ll help you take on the Boazans too!
We’re more than worthy opponents for them.
Don’t get conceited. No matter how many of you come, we’ll still crush you all!
There’s a nice looking forest right in front of the deployment. Let’s camp there for a while and let them come to us. This is the stage where I discovered how powerful the Artillery Aestis are. Their cannons are as powerful as finishers and only cost 10EN. That’s literally nothing when you consider their almost infinite EN. Maybe I should use Aestis more often on defense-oriented stages.
The plot continues when either you reach turn 4 or if Jangal is defeated or retreats. In my run’s case, I let them come to me.
I feel like we’re a bit out of place here.
What a waste of time, just like with that other island.
What’s that over there?
…
The hell?
That’s the thing messing with our defenses!
Is that…
Confirmed, that’s a Data Weapon. Its name is Bull Horn.
Dammit. Of course we come across one without Dendoh around.
We did it. Dendoh isn’t here, so it’s all ours!
…I think you mean all Altair’s.
Oh yea. Altair will just end up taking all the credit.
Right…
Jangal, what the hell is that cow-looking thing?
I don’t know either! Dammit, when did that get here?
Are you alright, Boazans?
It looks like your base is under attack and you’re losing. Let’s help them out.
Even the Campbellians are here.
Dungele!
Oh come on. If you want a fight, we’ll beat your ass too!
Don’t be so suspicious. Our ally’s base is under attack. Of course we’ll come to your aid.
(Dungele, go wild.)
(Of course, bro. Don’t be surprised if I go too crazy and the base gets some collateral damage.)
Assholes!
There’s no point in complaining about it. I’m calling the Machine Beasts to catch Bull Horn before Altair does!
Ah, Bull Horn is doing something.
…And it’s gone.
Why is this happening to us?
The Campbellians are here. Same strategy still applies.
Combattler, this island will be your grave.
Zip it. This is your grave instead!
Dungele! Do you really think you could win by teaming up with the Boazans?
Oh like you’re not doing the exact same thing!
Voltes V, let’s fight!
Jangel, I won’t let you do whatever you want to the Earth any more!
Warchimedes and Dungele escape at 30% HP (3900 and 4200 respectively). When one leaves or is shot down, the other brother leaves.
Ugh. Damn you, THE BOYS!
Bro, are you alright?
Dungele, let’s retreat. This island is no longer usable as a base and we’ve paid back our debts.
Okay, bro. THE BOYS, this fight is now yours!
Dammit!
Dungele, let’s retreat. This island is no longer usable as a base and we’ve paid back our debts.
Okay, bro. THE BOYS, this fight is now yours!
Jangal also retreats at 30% HP (5400).
Dammit! My engine’s been destroyed. We’re losing power!
Jangal, we’re withdrawing and abandoning this base!
Lord Heinel!
That’s an order!
S-sir! Retreating!
The map ends when all enemies are defeated.
Lord Heinel, this island will self-destruct. Please escape quickly.
Lord Heinel, wait for me! Waaaaah!
Mmm. Dr. Go, it’s too late for you to escape!
Lord Heinel! Lord Heinel!
Lord Heinel, we can’t wait any longer. We need to leave now!
[Heinel’s Skullrook appears, then leaves instantly]
I won’t let you get away! HEINEL!!
Wait, Kenichi!
Ugh…
That’s Dad!
Hurry! This island is exploding!
Kenichi, get away from there now. You’ll get caught up in the explosion!
We’re skedaddling too!
But to where?
Over there. We’ll stick ourselves to the Nadesico’s hull!
[More explosions as the island blows up]
[Nadesico, Bridge]
Crow Island has been completely destroyed.
That was a close one…
Is everyone safe?
All robots have been secured. No pilots are missing.
Good, everyone’s safe!
[Nadesico, Infirmary]
Ugh… Where am I…
Dad… You’re finally awake.
Dad!
Old man!
My sons… Ugh!
Don’t push yourself. Just rest.
Let’s leave them alone.
Eh?
This isn’t our place
Yup. Let’s let them have their family reunion.
[Oniwa Castle, Hall of Worship]
Gwahahahaha! How’d you like that, Boazans?
I’m sure they have more bases than just Crow Island.
We still have use of them for our own invasion plan. It would be prudent to not take them out entirely.
Well whatever. I’m satisfied with shoving a big fat loss into Heinel’s pretty face. What kind of prince does he think he is? Getting all cocky just because he’s handsome.
Just leave it there, Dungele, else you get caught up in jealousy.
Me, jealous? A man’s charm is in his strength. His ruggedness.
Even so, it’s impressive that you found out about Kentaro Go and used him. How did you find out about it?
Eh? Weren’t you the one who leaked that information to Big Falcon? I only knew about Crow Island…
No, that wasn’t me.
Then who was it?
…It was me. You can call me Lalia.
Who the hell are you? How did you get into my castle!?
Umm… I was instructed to join your alliance.
Alliance?
The one between Campbell, Mycenae, Boazan, and the Dinosaurs…
And if I refuse?
Then I would tell the Boazans about this incident. The alliance would fall apart. You all would fight and destroy each other.
…Hmmmm…
I don’t know where you came from, but you talk too much!
Hold it, Dungele! Even if we kill him, someone else will just take his place.
How could you possibly know that!?
He said he was told to come here. He has a master.
Yes, that’s right… So what will you do?
Hmmm…
[Nadesico, Bridge]
You imbeciles! Stop acting on your own. If the Nadesico didn’t save your butts, you’d all be dead!
(He’s on the phone)
I’m sorry.
This isn’t something you can just apologize for. Don’t come back to Big Falcon for a while. Reflect on your actions elsewhere!
Doctor, that’s cruel. What about repairing and resupplying Voltes?
Noin, they’re a bunch of mischievous brats, but they’re your problem now.
I understand. The Voltes Team and Dr. Go will join THE BOYS.
…I see.
I’m a little surprised.
I’d like to talk to Dr. Go at length right now, but he needs his rest. If you come to Big Falcon right now, he’d just take up all of my precious time.
And so the Voltes Team will join THE BOYS.
I’m Kenichi Go. Nice to meet you.
He’s a bit of a prude, but he’s a nice guy at heart.
And these are my younger brothers, Daijiro and Hiyoshi.
Nice to meet you all.
Nice to meet you too.
I’m Hiyoshi Go. I’m in charge of Voltes V’s maintenance.
Why are there so many smart kids like Kosuke and Ruri?
It’s not that they’re smart, it’s that you’re dumb.
That makes sense… Hey wait a minute!
Ah, so you do get it. Maybe you’re getting smarter, Boss.
THE BOYS sure are lively. I’m Ippei Mine.
I’m Megumi Oka. I’m a licensed master of Koga-Ryu Ninjutstu.
You’re a real ninja?
It’ll get confusing since we have the same name. I’m also Megumi.
(TL note: For reference, Nadesico Megumi’s name is in Katakana メグミ while Voltes Megumi’s name is in Hiragana めぐみ)
Not to brag, but I’ve never met anyone with the same name as me.
Of course you haven’t.
Now that you mention it, what’s your real name, Boss?
Not even the author knows my real name.
Sorry, the what now?
[Nadesico, Deck]
Combattler V and Voltes V. Two Super Electromagnetic robots, eh?
So the reason why their combination systems are similar is because they use the same energy source, right?
Yes. Unfortunately, we’ve yet to miniaturize Super Electromagnetics to the same size as Photon Power. They still need to be this big.
(TL note: For reference, Mazinger and Great are about 16 and 20 meters tall. Combattler and Voltes are 57 and 58 meters tall.) (In Imperial, that’s about 53, 66, 187, and 190 feet respectively)
And when you consider mobility, you come to the same conclusion.
Yeah.
Is it possible to make them as small as Mazinger?
At the moment, not really…
The issue is the inability to make the crown coils smaller due to Magnetic Particles.
Time Particles?
Not Time, Magnetic. They might sound the same, but everything else is different. Time Particles are used for the Time Flow Engine and Magnetic Particles are what's emitted when Super Electromagnetic energy is passed through the crown coils.
Are you getting any of this?
…Not even a little bit.
[Nadesico, Hull]
Ugh. How long do we have to keep holding onto this thing?
Just a little longer. This was a great idea.
A very great idea.
If we stay on their hull, we’ll make it into their base.
That’s where Dendoh is hiding!
Exactly. Just be patient a little longer.
[Screen shakes]
…No no no no!!
Aaaaaaaaah we’re falling!
We’re falling!
[Nadesico, Bridge]
What’s with that shaking just now?
We encountered a bit of turbulence, but it’s over now.
[GEAR HQ, Command Room]
Welcome back. I’ve heard about the Voltes Team from Dr. Sakonji.
Bring Dr. Go to the treatment room right away.
T-that’s not necessary. My body is fine. Don’t worry about little ol’ me.
We can’t. You were held prisoner by the Boazans.
Yeah. Who knows what sick things they did to you.
You need a thorough medical examination.
No thank you!
What’s with him? That’s just rude.
He was held by the enemy, so maybe he’s just stressed.
[GEAR HQ, Hangar]
Hmmm. Which one should I choose?
What are you thinking about?
I mean both Combattler and Voltes are Super Electromagnetic robots, right?
Yes, but you got all the Super EM data from Dr. Yotsuya, right?
Yes, but I would rather see the actual thing.
You’re too picky.
…You’re not thinking of taking one of them apart, are you?
Got it in one. I was wondering which one to tackle.
You can’t be serious.
Raji, I mean this in the nicest way possible. Fucking stop.
…Why?
You just have to! We have more important things to worry about than Super Electromagnetism.
I’m just hoping to find some inspiration with our own problems.
(...I don’t expect a time warp system to be completed anytime soon…)
This is what energy otakus are like. They only think about satisfying their own desires.
It’s far more important to combine everyone’s powers.
That’s not related to anything at all…
[GEAR HQ, Command Room]
What? A Data Weapon?
Yes. Apparently it was called Bull Horn. It appeared and then disappeared right away.
Dang it. Why did it show up where we weren’t!
It’s not your fault. Data Weapons just don’t appear for our convenience.
Well shucks, these things happen all the time. Ain’t no use crying over spilt milk. Just saddle up and look for the next rodeo.
…I knew it. We can’t just wait for them to show up.
[GEAR HQ, A Room]
So in the end, we just kept fighting. The ocean was so pretty though… I wish you could have seen it.
Garrod.
W-what is it?
Next time, take me with you…
A-are you sure? Wherever we go, there’s just more and more fighting.
Tiffa is very sensitive about people dying. It’s better if you don’t go into battlefields as much as possible.
No one should be going into battle in the first place.
You’re right.
Reality isn’t that nice.
Doctor Go, are you okay enough to be walking around?
Yes, thanks to you. I was thinking I’d take a walk and look around here.
In that case, let me show you around.
Thanks…
…
…
What’s wrong with you two?
That person…
Yes…
You mean Dr. Go?
How can I put it…
I can’t feel anything from that guy…
If I had to describe what I felt from him, it’d be abnormal.
(If Amuro and Tiffa are feeling something from Dr. Go…)
Sorry, was Dr. Go just here?
He just left. What’s wrong?
He’s trying to get away from a proper examination. We just wanted to do a quick blood test and X-Ray…
