Video of this chapter

Last time, the Jovians pulled off their sudden yet inevitable betrayal. Before we head to Galfa, we’re making a pit stop at the Martian Ruins.

[Y-Nadesico, Bridge]
Like I said before, the technology used by the Jovian Federation, much like Nergal, isn’t entirely their own.
I assume it’s based on analyzing and applying the technology found in those Martian Ruins?
Yes. But the fact remains that even if they have the technology, they normally lack the resources to put it to use.
Ahh, so the Devil Aestis from earlier was them trying to use our resources.
Anyway, the Jovian Federation’s fighting ability was reaching their limits.
That’s one reason why we originally considered peace.
If this becomes a war of attrition, it would be disastrous to the Jovians.
But if they knew that, why did they sabotage any chance of a peace deal?
They must have found new ruins.
By which you mean new technology?
Yes. I think the new model that Hokushin and his gang was using earlier is an application of that new technology.
It seems to be very Aestivalis-like.
But their designs were totally different from anything before.
When they created the Devil Aestis, they must have stolen a lot of data from Nergal.
But, to get back on point, the source of their newfound confidence must be from this new ruin.
I believe so. If we can do something about those ruins, we might be able to get them to rejoin the negotiating table.
It’s scummy. If they think they can win, they fight, but if they think they’ll lose, they sue for peace.
They’re flip-flopping based on their situation.
That’s the arrogance of the strong. You can only say that because you believe you’ll always be the victor.
Maybe people only start thinking about the meaning of conflict when they can no longer win.
Those who start wars are always standing in the rear, never witnessing the lives and deaths of others. There’s no point in conversing with those who only want victory without fighting for it themselves.
People in general want to make peace when they feel that the fighting is meaningless.
When the sins of war can no longer be concealed and covered up in the name of victory, then they’ll finally think about peace…
Getting back on topic, personally, I think we should seize these Martian Ruins.
There’s more hostiles out there than just the Jovians. Since the ruins are on Mars, I’d imagine the Meganoids must also be after them.
I don’t know when these ruins are from, but it’s wrong for people today to hurt each other over something left behind by those long dead.
I agree. Let’s go to Mars first and take the ruins for ourselves.
After that, we can stop anyone else from using the ruins and move forward with negotiating peace.
How will we stop anyone else from using it?
Let’s destroy it in a big flashy way!
I’m against that. The technology in those ruins should be used to improve humanity’s lives.

quote:

I believe Raji would opt to destroy it.
Why?
He’s the kind of guy who believes that the only things humans should have are things they can make themselves. Human society shouldn’t be reliant on technology that can be used, but can’t be made.
That’s a valid point of view.
But by that logic, then we shouldn’t be using Dendoh or Ogre.
Don’t think about it so rigidly. This is an emergency.

How annoying. Anyway, we need to get the ruins for ourselves first.
Yeah. Just talking about it won’t accomplish anything.
Counting chickens before they hatch and all that.
Let’s hurry to Mars!

[Jovian Battleship Kagurazuki, Command Room]
Major Shiratori betrayed us!
Forget about him. He’s a fool who was seduced by a woman and abandoned justice.
According to our intel, they’re heading for Mars.
Do you think they’re aiming for the Martian Ruins?
What’s exactly in those ruins?
That’s on a need to know basis.
(They don’t want us to know, brother.)
(That seems to be the case…)
(Could it be something even more powerful than the Satellite System?)
(If so, we need to get rid of those ruins.)
(Of course, brother.)
(The only weapon that should change the course of a battle should be our Satellite Launcher.)

[Ra Cailum, Bridge]
So where are the ruins?
I wasn’t in the loop, so I don’t know the details. But I do know of a few potential locations.
Okay. Captain Misumaru, let’s split up. Once we find the right location, we’ll wait on standby.
We’ll only attack after meeting back up.
Okey-dokey! Here’s the data on the potential locations.
Be careful. That one there is the Meganoid’s home base.
I hate Meganoids…
Are you still holding a grudge over the contest?
Of course. Consider what she went through.

[Galfa Homeworld]
Mizuho, are you alright?
Yeah… What’s that you’re working on?
It’s the spare Time Flow Engine.
I’ve been tasked with making the basic structure of an Excellence Frame.
Change of plans. Instead of that, I want you to apply the energy flow system into that mech there.
I see. A car won’t run if it only has an engine. So to time travel, you’ll need a mech to pilot.
I don’t need a mech… What I want to know is the effect the energy has when it flows through that machine…
Are you saying that you’ll prepare a separate mech for yourself?
But I’ll need to see it.
There’s no need for that.
…What exactly are you planning to put this Engine in?

[Ra Cailum, Bridge]
Captain Bright, we’ve got a ping on the radar!
It’s a Meganoid craft.
They’re being chased.
Are they having a falling out?
Ok. Capture the craft and protect the crew.
Mobile suit squad, launch!

[Martian Polar Ice Cap Ruins]
What? The deserter fled into the Ra Cailum?
And Banjo is there too.
It seems they’ve come to Mars…

(Oh, Lord Don…)
…Don must be heartbroken by Banjo’s arrival. Find him immediately and offer his life to the planet.
All for Don Zauther!!

[Ra Cailum, Infirmary]

(Minamoto)
I can’t believe it was you, Professor Minamoto.
You know him?
I know of him. He’s the top manufacturer of Meganoids. He’s also the guy who created the Meganoid that killed my parents.
So he’s your parent’s enemy…
Who’d you say your dad was again?
Sozo Haran… The creator of the Meganoids.
…I wanted to prove your father was right.
You mean that he was right in creating the Meganoids?
Not Meganoids…but cyborgs.
There’s not much of a difference between them.
…Banjo’s father, Sozo Haran, was not mistaken in creating cyborgs.
For the human race to advance into deep space, flesh and blood are too fragile.
We can’t rely on concepts like Newtypes since we don’t know when or how they awaken. That’s why we thought to turn humans into cyborgs instead.
(...There’s people obsessed with Newtypes here too…)
My mistake was not realizing that the cyborgs would awaken to their new strength and turn against normal humans.
I’m fighting because I feel responsible for my father’s mistake.
I’ve followed in his footsteps and tried to perfect a true cyborg.
What do you mean?
Even if you strengthen the body, it’s meaningless if the mind remains human. The fact that humans keep defeating Meganoids proves that fact.
So…?
I tried to create a cyborg that would faithfully serve Don Zauther. But as I was making it, I began to get scared… I thought that this would be a denial of humanity…
You eventually came to a sensible conclusion…but it’s too late now. That loyal cyborg you speak of are their normal Soldiers, yes?
It is. That’s why I escaped.
I hate you… But I also know that killing you right now wouldn’t solve anything.
Banjo…
Nothing will change until we defeat Don Zauther.
That may be true. I’m certainly the leading expert on Meganoid technology, but even if you kill me now…there are already Meganoids with technology that rival my own.
That has nothing to do with this. Where is Don Zauther?
At the ancient ruins in the polar ice caps.
What!?
They’re researching the Boson Jump Calculation Unit they discovered there. Eventually, all commanders will be able to Boson Jump at will.
You’ve got to be kidding me. There’s no way we can let that happen.
But don’t the Jovians control those ruins?
We took over. We took some of the Jovians prisoner, modified them, and made them our spies. The Jovian Federation shouldn’t have noticed that we took over the ruins.
By the time they realize it, it’ll be too late.
Tonia, contact Nadesico. We’re heading to the Polar Ice Cap Ruins!
Understood!

[Martian Polar Ice Cap Ruins]
THE BOYS are heading this way.
Don Zauther, look. I, Commander Zenoia, will defeat THE BOYS in style.
Everyone, go prepare a ten thousand meter tall gravestone for Earth.
All for Koros!

…You said with the power of the Meganoids, humanity would be in eternal peace… But then there’s Banjo Haran… If the power of the Meganoids and the power of the Boson Jump are combined, we can make all humans kneel before you in one fell swoop.

…I intend to take part in this battle too.

We cannot allow the human’s war to continue any longer. If all humans become Meganoids, your dream will come true.

The dream of us Meganoids… Eternal peace…

[Ra Cailum, Bridge]
We’ll arrive at the ruins in 10 minutes.
The Meganoids should already be aware of our approach. Everyone, prepare for battle!
It doesn’t look like I’ll be able to finish this battle before dinner.
Yes. You’ll have to pack a lunch.
Stop it! I know all too well how terrifying the Meganoids are.
And I know all too well how amazing humans are.
I see it!

Chapter 32: The Man Who Disappeared into the Galaxy

Select 13 units to deploy. Banjo is mandatory, since this is the Daitarn 3 finale.

There, those ruins!
That’s strange… Where are the Meganoids?
Did they get scared and run?
Doubt it.

You’ve finally come, Banjo Haran… Also THE BOYS.
Koros, eh? Just disappear, Don Zauther’s puppet!
You’re the one who should vanish for tormenting Don’s mind!
No can do. I won’t stop until Don Zauther’s ambitions are destroyed.
Then I’ll erase you with my own two hands!

More of them suddenly appeared!?
We’re completely surrounded!!
No way! That’s a Boson Jump!
Hahaha. You underestimate the power of us Meganoids. We’ve already analyzed Boson Jumping and can already use them to some extent.
Damn you Meganoids!
Damn us you say? Aren’t the Earthlings and Jovians using this technology for their own war?
You’re doing the same thing.
No. We Meganoids will use this power for eternal peace.
A peaceful world ruled by Meganoids… Hard pass.
Banjo, why? Don’t you understand Don’s heart?
I despise my father for creating cyborgs… But you, Don, and all of you Meganoids think you’re better than humans… I hate that even more!
That’s just envy!
In an age when humanity can fly into space, Don’s thinking is correct! To go into deep space, humans must surpass humanity.
Surpassing humanity doesn’t mean abandoning that humanity!
For the sake of the world and its people, Daitarn 3 will crush the ambitions of the Meganoids! If you don’t fear the radiance of the sun, then BRING IT ON!
Banjo, you…
Let’s dance!!

We’ve got Meganoids in two stages on this map. The ones surrounding the initial deployment are easy to deal with. Just watch out for some of those tanks since the previous Meganoid bosses are piloting them. Defeat those tanks and the Megaborg forms of those ‘noids will come out in a phase two. None of them are really that strong at this point of the game.

The second phase of enemies are down at the ruins to the south west. They won’t move an inch and will support defend and support attack with each other. You don’t actually need to worry about the peanut gallery down there, as the only target you should focus on is Koros. That’s because she lacks any Meganoids support defending her. Again, she’ll spawn in her Megaborg form once her initial mech is destroyed.

When I finished the first wave, I put everyone into the battleships for the long march southwest. That gives them time to regain any lost HP or EN, and the 10 lost will won’t matter in the long run.

First, the boss dialogs. All of these are shown in no particular order.

I’ll defeat you and win over Don’s heart for myself!
A woman obsessed with love is blind.

Banjo, I’m happy to show you my magic show’s second act.
Magic without soul is nothing more than a sham!

Beltori, do you have your prized robot bugs with you?
Hmph. I can defeat you even without them!

Your unique disguise technique will be useless in a fair fight.
You’ll see I’m even stronger without the disguises.

Koros, you’re nothing but a pitiful Meganoid… Your love for Don Zauther has taken over your heart and you can’t see anything else.
Loving that man is my reason for living.
And that’s why I hate you Meganoids!

Not in front of Don!

Don, watch me… I will risk my life for you.

Not bad! But behold the Great Magician Edwin’s escape show!

Now, a round of applause!

Noooo. I’m not done yet!

Humans, the real battle starts now!

Oh no. You may think I was a normal tank pilot, but in reality I’m…

Megaborg Nendol. How about it? Are you impressed?

I won’t lose… Not for Don’s dream!

Come, humans. I will burn you flames and make Don’t dream of building a galactic empire come true!

But this is the end of the Meganoids.

Ah… Don Zauther… I wonder if I’ll ever see you again…

Geh. So this is the end of the Great Magician Edwin’s show…

How…impressive…humans…

Aww man. I wanted to better my disguises!

Unrelated, but I don’t think we’ve seen Koros’ Megaborg form this game. If we have, then here it is again.

The plot continues when Koros is defeated.

Don… Help… Me…
[She explodes]
Koros… Who hurt you…

There you are, Don Zauther!
So that’s the leader of the Meganoids…
Don Zauther…

quote:

Don… What a dignified figure…

That guy has a massive aura despite not being human!
But he only has his size! It’ll be easy to fill him with lead!
What’s this feeling… Sadness?
Don Zauther is feeling extreme sadness…
Who are you all? Are you Meganoids?
Forgotten me already? I’m Banjo Haran!
Banjo… Son of the Haran that created me…
Keh… Everyone in front of me is carrying the ghost of my father.
I see now, Banjo… You’re the one who always makes Koros sad!
[Don maximizes his will]

Time for the final battle against the Meganoids. Just look at that goofy sprite. Unlike other games like A Portable, Don Zauther is a cakewalk in this game. That’s partially due to the Prevail skill not working as intended on the defense stat. With Valor’d or Soul’d attacks, he’ll probably die in like 3-5 hits. It only took me an extra turn because I wanted Banjo to make the final hit. Just also don’t forget Fortune/Gain for massive money and exp gains.

You have sinned by harming and causing Koros grief, Banjo!
Geh… Can I win against this monster…
…My child, you can win… Koros’s desperate brain waves have only temporarily awakened Don. The human mind cannot last long…
Is this your way of apologizing, Dad? …But I won’t take your advice! I will win with my own strength! My own power!

K-KOROOOOOOOOOSSSSSSSS!!
His energy is increasing. If this keeps up, the entire area will be engulfed.
Emergency retreat! Get away as fast as you can!

[Jovian Battleship Kagurazuki, Command Room]
What the? There was a massive explosion at the ruins!?
Yes. The cause is unknown, but it’s probably due to THE BOYS.
Are the ruins intact?
We haven’t been able to confirm anything yet, but it is protected by a powerful force field. It’s probably fine.
Check it out right away!

[Martian Polar Ice Cap Ruins]
Amazing. It’s practically unscathed from Don Zauther’s explosion.
It looks like these ruins are protected by a force field.
Is it some kind of Distortion Field?
More or less. But its power is nothing compared to the Nadesico.
We got the Boson Jump data the Meganoids were researching, so progress on Jumping will progress rapidly!

[Ra Cailum, Deck]
So what are you gonna do now?
Banjo, please forgive me. I don’t have the courage or energy to go with you.
Most of the Meganoids have been wiped out. There might be a few remnants left though.
…I’m tired… I’m going somewhere where there are no Meganoids. Somewhere out of reach…
Are you running away?
Banjo, the rest is up to you…
…Every single one of them just does whatever they want!!

[Martian Polar Ice Cap Ruins]

quote:

…I think we should destroy it.
I agree. This is the root of this whole conflict, right?

These ruins are the source of this whole conflict. Let’s destroy it!
But if we do destroy it, then the mysteries of Boson Jumping will be lost forever.

quote:

It’s fine to leave it a mystery! Right now it’s only partially solved and it’s caused this much damage.

That’s right. It’ll remain a mystery and will be unusable to everyone.
You know Inez, if Boson Jumping were no longer possible, tragedies like ours would never happen again.
What’s going on here?
We’ve uncovered something troublesome.
…The Boson Jump Calculation Unit.
It’s basically the control system block.
So they’re arguing about what to do with it.
Either destroy or protect it…
Honestly, I don’t know which is the right answer. But we can’t just leave it here…
This place will become a battlefield.
…I can understand why some of you want to destroy it.
But this is a new step for humanity.
Yes. It is very intriguing.
If Dad was here, I know he’d try to research it.
Even if you blame those tragedies on Boson Jumping, the point is that they happened because we didn’t fully understand it.
Besides, there are too many unknowns at the moment. Even if we wanted to destroy it, we can’t do anything if we don’t know what’s going to happen.
For now, why don’t we just protect it?

quote:

(...What should I do… Destroying this would mean changing history, but without this, there’s no chance the Martian Successor Coup would happen…)

Either way, we need to come to a decision quickly.
Yeah. The Jovian Federation is bound to be on their way.
Captain, it looks like we can somehow remove the Computation Unit.
I see. Then it’s decided. We’ll remove it and bring it back to Earth.
If we have our hands on it, we’ll be able to negotiate more favorably with the Jovians.
That’s right. It’s scary to use a system where the control block is controlled by the enemy.
If it’s too much, we can always destroy it anyway.
That would be a shame.
…I guess it can’t be helped…

quote:

I wonder. Once engineers get their hands on this technology, they’ll find it hard to let it go.

How long will it take to remove the Computation Unit and load it onto the Ra Cailum?
About two hours.
I wonder if the enemy will leave us alone until then…
Looks like that’s not happening.
[Alarm]
