Survey results, Questions, and the Endgame

We’re almost done with this LP and boy what a ride it’s been. As a special birthday gift from me to you all, I want to go over some questions and other things I got from the survey I posted a bit ago.

I got 39 results between people who’re reading this here on SA and when I post the archived chapter onto Twitter and Bsky. More than I expected to be honest.

I will “officially” announce that my next LP is for Super Robot Wars BX for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems. I’ve already laid out most of the roadwork to make the process as smooth as possible and have already started recording chapters. Special thanks to Lumi from the Akurasu discord server for helping me get the DLC working, so I’ll be covering those too when they normally become available.

As I’m not using a written script for BX (since I can’t find one like for R), it’ll take longer for each chapter to come out. I was pushing for a 4 chapter a week release schedule for R, but that’ll have to be shortened with BX. Those chapters will come out as soon as they’re done, or at least that’s the plan as of this moment.

I also want to first give special thanks to Dramata, the fine folks in her discord, and the members of the Akurasu discord for all their help, advice, and answers they’ve given me. I’d be missing a lot without their help (and pointing out all of my typos).

I do have the game I’m doing after BX decided, but that’s going to remain a secret for now.

I’m gonna keep posting the gameplay videos even if they don’t get watched. You never know.

Starting with BX I will try to add more of my own personal thoughts for moments and the chapter as a whole. Not sure how yet, but I’ll work on it.

I know my translation is a bit stilted at times and sometimes a character’s tone is a bit off, but that’s me trying to overcorrect the fine line between translating and localizing. I’m far from a professional at this, so I’m trying to keep things accurate, but smooth. Please bear with me as I keep improving.

Now for some questions. I’m pasting these verbatim and anonymously.

Did Dekim actually survive the events of Endless Waltz for once?
I don't remember if they ever mention this, but since this game seems to treat UC Gundam and Gundam X Newtypes as one and the same, is there an in-universe explanation as to why the UC newtypes can't use stuff like the G-bits?
What's the deal with Hokushin here? Did they do the Martian Succesor experiments earlier? And more important, is he a true Gekiganger believer too?
What happened with the Emperor of Darkness, did he just... dissapear? I remember in Alpha 2 you actually fought him directly.

Dekim and Seidel are still alive. They’re going to stand trial for their BS. The reason why UC Newtypes can’t use G-Bits is because the Flash System is only installed on the GX and DX. The reason why they can’t pilot those machines is because they use a different cockpit design or something. Hokushin is just an evil jabroni. I want to say he’s one of the secret Meganoids they put into the Jovians, but that’s not confirmed. He believes in Gekiganger as much as it’ll further his agenda. The Emperor of Darkness just leaves. No one knows where he is or what he’s doing. Or even what he is.

Could you give notes like last LP about how each series got handled?

Alright.

All the UC Gundams and Gundam X are combined into a single meta-series centered around the concept of Newtypes with X and ZZ taking the lead. I think it’s well done how they go over what Newtypes are, what they’re supposed to be, and what people expect from them much like in X.

Endless Waltz is there mostly as unit filler, but I do like how they tease people from other series joining the Preventers (Ikuta from Great Mazinger, Enil from Gundam X, Genichiro from Nadesico).

G Gundam is post plot with close ties to the OG villains. I like how they deal with Master Asia’s unfortunate return. No need for a face turn when Master Asia already had his with his death in the show.

Mazinger and Great Mazinger are combined as always, but with a focus on some actual Great Mazinger plot. You could tell me Combattler and Voltes come from the same show and I’d believe you (yes, I know about the Robot Romance trilogy). They always work so well together. Neo Getter is there mostly doing its own thing, but aspects of it are intertwined with the other Super Robots here and with G Gundam. The main thing combining these series with their villains teaming up and failing to work together. I really enjoyed their Evil League of Evil and now utterly incompetent they all are. If they actually combined forces, they would have probably won.

Having Daitarn plot is always a treat. I really like Banjo’s interactions with Raul and Fiona’s secret. Also the various Meganoid plots occurring at the same time as plots of other shows (Great Mazinger and Nadesico) are cool.

Nadesico… We got Gai in exchange for Akatsuki at least (see BX for the reverse). I don’t have many thoughts on Nadesico since it’s not a series I’m attached to. There is the time travel connection with the OG plot that’s interesting, but doesn’t really have a payoff. Plus the final battle, as you’ve just read, is not as climatic as it should be.

Zambot also mostly does their own thing until Tis forces Butcher and Galfa to join forces. That doesn’t really do much in terms of the plot. The most inter-series interaction I’ve noticed with Zambot is tension from the OG cast as to when Uchuta and Keiko would die and if they should be saved.

Dendoh takes up most of the plot in this game along with UC/X Gundam. I like how GEAR is their main hub and Shibuya being the de facto team leader.

Does Dark Brain ever actually come up in R, or was this purely OG welding it together?

Dark Brain is entirely an OG villain. If you want to be technical, he comes from the Compati Hero series. Its connection with Duminas is OG only.

quote:

Now that you mention it, it occurs to me that you never brought up the main character gaining friendship bonuses (or I blinked and missed it) with people they frequently deploy with. It's such a neat if disorienting feature - I was like wtf since when is Fiona friends with Vega?

I kept meaning to bring up the friendship mechanic, but I also don’t entirely know how it works. I only know that putting a unit next to someone they’re friends or lovers with will increase their damage dealt and reduce damage taken. The bigger the heart or flame, the bigger the bonus.

The final chapter of this game has 14 deployment slots. This is my team for the last few chapters (barring Dendoh related forced deployments). Raul in the Lightning Frame is a given and mandatory.

I normally use more Gundams, but I’ve grown to like Combattler, Voltes, and Fuunsaiki. I remember I didn’t end up using them when I played this game on my actual GBA several years ago.

Anyway there are three chapters left plus the epilogue. I hope you enjoy the ride. If you’re not on Something Awful, find me on Twitter, Bsky, or Discord to get updates to new chapter releases.
