I want to show off some easter eggs with the Missingno fight (as well as what happens if you die to Missingno). Some of these easter eggs require Ditto though, who was fainted in our main file (this isn't a problem for reasons we'll get to, but it is a minor inconvenience). This seems like a good opportunity to load up my convenient save file from my first playthrough that I made right after beating the Champion that I kept in case I wanted to refight Missingno for sport.

This save is from a much older version of the game; almost a year ago in fact (yes I have been slow with this LP). Back then, the only mons you got the opportunity to rename were gift mons and statue mons. Mons you caught, such as Arceus, were not able to be renamed (though it wouldn't surprise me if Arceus was an exception and I just went "no, it feels more thematic to leave it at Arceus"; that's what I did with Redcap Pika as seen here).

Anyways, we have a Ditto. We can get a more in-depth look at all these glitched goobers Missingno sends out.

Ah yes, the first of our easter eggs. Missingno's Pokémon are so alien that their "highest stat" isn't one of the stats we're used to; in the case of Aerodactyl, Ditto's "Sorrow" rises. I might actually get to claim some credit for this; http404error (the dev who designed this fight) and I were talking at one point and they complained that Ditto was too strong for this fight and considered having Missingno just rob you of Ditto if you bring it. I suggested having Ditto copy negative abilities/stats that harm you overall instead, and well, here we are.

I'll be noting the "stat" that Ditto increases as it comes up.

Decayed Aerodactyl only has Sever Bonds and Perish. Sever bonds is better Dragon Dance (+2 speed instead of +1), and Perish is an attacking move that has a chance to inflict corruption.

Sever Bonds: "Under no circumstances should you disturb the Dreamer."

I cannot view what ability Ditto copies, as viewing them in the summary only shows Ditto and their Impostor ability. I am led to believe that Aerodactyl has Liquid Ooze (HP Drain Moves harm the opponent instead of healing), however.

I also believe that all of Missingo's mons are a unique "Glitch" Type, and I don't have any way to view their stats (other than one of the devs telling me the ridiculous 14k BST Soulsnag has).

You know, I didn't realize it but Cartridge Error looks like it (she?) has an evil smirk. Stat that gets raised here is Anguish.

Confirmation that SuperGlitch can roll Curse, as seen by the opposing CartError.

Honestly kinda crappy luck considering they already know Curse.

Level Down Wave: "And let me tell you, it's not a metaphor. Ick!"

Cartridge Error's ability is Innards Out (deals damage equal to HP user had before the hit that killed them to the attacker). I believe I showed this off during the fight, but in case I didn't, now you know.

We take a brief break from showing off Ditto's forms to die to Missingno; in part because I was fucking around showing off Ditto's forms instead of actually fighting.

Dying to Missingno has them kill us with a thwack sound and a flash to grey and then black. And then...

It doesn't matter, because Missingno will drag us back from the dead. Missingno wants something from us, after all: they need us to sacrifice ourselves to save the world (and by extension, them). This does not, as far as I know, count as using a day. We have as many tries as we need to win this once we've got here.

We can go right back into the fight, or we can take a moment to either sacrifice ourselves or just reorganize our team before going into the fight. I opt to take a breather; there's a few things different in this room that I want to check out.

First off, there's now a move relearner statue. Useful if the mons you brought don't have the moves they need to win the fight.

Secondly, there's a PC. Picking up the Champion's Soul revived every mon in our PC, and dying to Missingno also heals us; so we can change our team if for whatever reason the team we brought to the champion isn't enough. This is useful, but ultimately beating Missingno isn't a matter of building a good team; it's a matter of playing good with the cards you have, and generally you don't need this unless you used a hyper-specific strategy with very low leveled mons to win against the Champion. There is a new option in the PC as well.

: As you will need to refight the Champion's Throne, this should not be done lightly. Return to Journey's End?

Just in case you somehow blazed through the entire throne with a low level team that is somehow incapable of fighting Missingno. I see no reason you would ever pick this; it's only really here as a softlock prevention courtesy (and also I think sacrificing yourself to the statue has the same effect so it's really just here in case you're paranoid that sacrificing yourself will delete your save or something). I really cannot imagine any way you could get here without *some* combination of mons that could win against Missingno.

: No one left to help you.
: The door is locked. There's nowhere to go.

No going back. Only use, the statue, and missingno. And the option to go back but we'll ignore that.

: You will learn better in time.

Refighting skips the "I will help you" preamble and goes straight into her transforming into Missingno.

There's a lot of retries here as I attempt to line things up. One of my attempts had Arceus die to the Bad Egg; they got uncorrupted after dying to Missingno, but their name doesn't get uncorrupted; you'll have to fix that yourself if you care.

Also I didn't really have a good place to put this, but after dying to Missingno once you can run away to "forfeit" the fight if things are going south and are unrecoverable.

Bad Egg's Ditto stat is Longing.

Only move Bad Egg has is Memory Wipe, which we didn't get to see in the fight. This move inflicts Corruption, and if the target is already corrupted, deals some damage.

Memory Wipe: "Sometimes... I wish I could just forget all of this and walk away."

quote:

We didn't get to see what Corruption looks like from our side of the field, so skipping fight continuity a little bit, here's what it looks like. Every turn, two of our moves are randomly selected to be replaced with Struggle, limiting our options to half our movepool at any given time.

Bad Egg's ability is Final Revenge; a move that kills the attacker, renames them, and sets them to level 1. Ditto is able to copy this ability just fine, andhere we see it instakilling the level 103 DON'TRUN. Missingno does not get a Glitch Porygon of their own from this as far as I can tell, but there is a lasting effect of this...

On the next attempt, DON'TRUN's name has been replaced with DATA~ERR, and it will remain that way permanently.

Speaking of DON'TRUN, their Ditto stat is Suffering! I'd suffer too if I was a human caught in a Pokéball and forced to serve a glitchy monstrosity. Probably.

Level Down Wave, Super Glitch, and a signature move in Profane. Let's see what Profane has to say!

pfft okay that's kinda funny.

DON'TRUN's ability is Eternal Stagnation, the same as Eternatus. It removes all stat changes on entry.

Another Easter Egg! I didn't bring anything with Perish Song to the fight on the the other file, but here I have Arceus and this seems like a very good and thematic answer to Kabutops.

Special dialogue plays, and Kabutops gets an attack buff so it'll hit harder before it goes down. I don't think this actually matters that much, but it's a cool berserk button moment.

Soulsnag's Ditto Stat is Emptiness! This item is as Empty as your Soulsnag!... nah that was bad.

Only Curse and Level Down Wave. No matter what it clicks, it'll be a nuisance before it goes down.

Curse: "Three out of four trainers recommend entering this cave!"

Ability is Wonder Guard; so it can only be taken out through Glitch Moves or non-conventional methods. It's here to be a puzzle roadblock to encourage using Glitch Porygon.

Finally, we have Kabutops, whose Ditto stat is Despair. Hey, it's what it inflicts on you if you don't have a tool to deal with it!

Curse, Level Down Wave, and Memory Wipe. We didn't see it use Memory Wipe, but all of these are just ways to whittle you down while it outlasts you.

Uh, I may have given a bad impression in that I was going to go in super depth on all the intricacies of this fight, but at the time of writing this I don't feel like I have any useful insights about this fight. The gist of the fight is that you have two normal tough guys you need to deal with fairly legitimately, then you get Bad Egg'd and trade a mon for Glitch Porygon, who is used to get rid of SoulSnag. Then you have to figure out how to deal with two level 100+ guys. By the time DON'TRUN comes out, both of the mons they're paired with have level down wave and it is likely to be hit by friendly fire, so between that and Spiky Shield you can whittle it down; while Kabutops has an intended solution in applying Curse to it (either through PraySuperGlitch or through MirrorMove) and stalling. If you get hit with Curse you need to switch out to cure it because you aren't winning the fight with a ticking timer on you.

That's all I have; but it's possible I missed stuff. I'm super interested in hearing what others have to say about the fight though (one commentator had thoughts that they were going to hold off on until I posted this that I'm interested in hearing). It's a cool fight!

Next up, the Epilogue (for real actually). After that, a break, and then the Moon content.
