This update's going to be on the shorter side; I ended up recording 2 whole hours of stuff and chose to split it into more than one update. We're starting off with a puzzle.
Memory of Breaking has some reasonable level 20's followed by a level 35 and a level 48. True to it's name, we're going to have to break through.
Between our entire team, we have immunities to all of their attacking types through Ghost Type, Storm Drain, and Lightningrod. It's just about applying them. In hindsight I think I solved this puzzle wrong!
Pumpkaboo can survive a Thunder Punch, and is immune to the other two moves at the opponent's disposal; this leaves Sudowoodo as the most liable target, and if Graveler decided to attack Sudowoodo it's going to use a fighting type move. If we Trick or treat Sudowoodo, they're not going to take any damage this turn.
Not going to take damage, I say? That sounds like a prime opportunity to use Focus Punch! Raticate is taken care of easily.
I switch out both of my pokemon for Shellos and Raichu; the opponent opts to switch out Graveler for Gyarados and I'm unsure if it chose to do that because it read that I was switching in Raichu or if it was going to switch anyways. If it was going to switch anyways, only switching Shellos in and pre-empting a Trick or Treat on Shellos would have been the correct play I think.
Any time the opponent uses water moves, the move gets redirected to Shellos, who gets a special attack buff instead of taking damage.
I volt switch out Raichu since there's no threat of electric moves and I want to put Trick or Treat on Shellos to fully protect against all of the opponents moves.
After Shellos has eaten up enough Storm Drains, they can start doing real damage to Gyarados with a Scald-applied burn and Ancient Power while Pumpkaboo spams Trick or Treat cause scarf prevents it from doing anything else.
Switching Raichu back in to protect Shellos from Graveler. Raichu is liable to eat dirt from Cloyster's Hyper Beam, but Cloyster isn't smart enough to use Hyper Beam so I didn't even know it had it until I looked at the game data.
Graveler unfortunately survives because of Sturdy. It's dead next turn, but it could potentially do some damage to Raichu with a fighting move if it's smart enough to do so.
This is technically Raichu's first turn on the field, so they can do a cheeky Fake Out to KO here.
At this point, it's just using Ancient Power to whittle Cloyster down.
Okay so I think I cheesed that puzzle and it didn't click for me until I was putting this update together. I think the idea is that you want to set up a Rollout with Sudowoodo and keep switching their partner to counter whatever mon comes out next. I'm not sure whether you'd get rid of Raticate or Graveler first; getting rid of Graveler would make it safer for Shellos to come in I imagine, but they might eat up an extra Rollout hit. The big thing is Rollout's accuracy, but you have infinite tries.
Full restore, some great balls, and an X Defense laying around.
Nothing to say buddy?
Well don't mind me, I'll just quiver dance-
PUNCH!
KICK!
KNOCKOUT!
I didn't know they had fire moves
Well, surely Idolachu can handle the-
Punch... Kick... Knockout...
At least EVE managed to get rid of one of them.
Kyubey almost takes out the Hitmontop in one hit despite being -1 from Intimidate, and EVE finishes the job on both of them.
Our rewards are a Black Belt (boosts fighting type moves), Superpower (120 damage physical fighting move that lowers users defense and attack per use), and a level 30 Shred of Hope.
Might as well revive Idolachu with that Shred of Hope.
Replacing Muramasa with Toasty. We'd need a pretty high Shred of Hope to bring Muramasa back.
Skyspear caverns has 2 floors to it. That grey rock has a Full Restore on it.
: Reasonable goals! They're COOL goals!
What kind of masochist climbs a mountain? I'd rather stay at home.
Boss music!
The levels are definitely nothing to scoff at, but we're fine. Clefable goes down with a combined Toasty/Idolachu special.
Flygon is a team player and misses.
Slaking comes out and I panic bring out Kyubey; Slaking's whole schtick is that they have Groudon/Kyogre level stats, but with the tradeoff of skipping every other turn.
Never mind, Slaking is a chump.
Flygon goes down to a single attack from Kyubey; you go champ! Slaking meanwhile just barely hangs on, and I don't like that.
Thankfully Extremespeed was made for these situations, and Slaking goes down before I can learn if it has anything more threatening thank feint attack. Loudred goes down after with a single Play Rough.
Rhyhorn is found in the Feverthorn Jungle. I could go grab one right now, but I'll hold off until we actually explore the jungle.
Hyper potion and a thunder stone below; very nice.
I'm pretty sure this guy is guarding the other Master Ball in the game. I don't really care enough to risk my team for it right now, but I will be back later.
Wow! Nice Electabuzz impression, I'm impressed!
Arctozolt manages to hang on from Toasty's fire attack, allowing it to get an Icicle Crash on Ohio Rizz.
Ohio does not care, as he is too busy beating up a rock.
Another, stronger rock gets sent out. Toasty finishes off Arcto with an Extremespeed, but Ohio's Rizz isn't strong enough to OHKO this Geodude.
This of course, is a problem. Toasty barely survives, but Ohio does not. The Hiker sends out his final two Pokémon.
What the fuck is that level 95.
Okay so I'm pretty sure that Golem is going to explode; Mimikyu can handle it, but Toasty won't and anyone I could switch out would also eat dirt. I choose to sacrifice Zapdos here because as the lowest leveled mon on my team they're the most likely to get revived sooner.
Thankfully the explosion takes out their buddy; silver lining there at least. Also it breaks Mimikyu's disguise, at which point I realized that they probably had Galvanize and I didn't even consider that when leaving in Mimikyu; I just thought ghost type immunity. Thank god Kyubey still had his disguise!
Your Electabuzz impression stinks!
Wild Charge and Earthquake! Wild Charge is the non-Pikachu's Volt Tackle; it does 90 damage and has recoil. The recoil is a bit eh but it is a physical electric move for physical electric attackers. Earthquake on the other hand is one of the most prominent moves in all of Pokemon. 100 damage ground move, hits everything, perfect accuracy. It's really really good. Match this up with a Flying Type or Telepathy or Protect-having partner and wreck stuff.
Replacing our two fainted members with Gabite and Gengar; I even teach Gabite earthquake.
: They stand rigid, robotic, staring straight ahead. Some say the same thing each time I speak to them. Are they even alive anymore?
Oh god. They aren't just standing still because it's their job. They're standing still because their veins are wires
Uh, in brighter news, Thunderbolt! This move, along with Ice Beam and Flamethrower, make up a sort of elemental beam trio. 90 power special moves with perfect accuracy. We already have Flamethrower, we're just missing Ice Beam.
Wha- Rude! That is not something you tell to someone who crawled out of the ocean!
Get muddy watered!
Oh you survived that. Uh, please don't take it personally?
Oh nevermind, you're a chump. In that case, please do take your loss very personally!
The stone he was guarding. This is the second Moon Stone we've come across? The use cases for these are pretty low and we can buy them, but nice to have.
Oh hey, speaking of Ice Beam, it's right here! That's the whole trio of elemental beams. Thunderbolt and Ice Beam make up a pretty strong coverage combo from what I've read, hitting damn near everything for neutral or better.
And we've reach Skyspear Summit, home of one of the beacons we've been searching for. But that's next update.
Before we end off though, I'm going to sequence break a bit to show the encounters for the caves; I did the whole catching spree near the end of the recording after exploring Skyspear Summit.
Lower floor first; we have some repeats from previous areas. Houndoom is found in all parts of the caverns, Diggersby was found last update, and Aron was found in Skyspear Climb. We have some new ones though. I remember Crobat being really good, and I know Bisharp is good from the Pokemon Insurgence LP. I've never used an Onix/Steelix or a Barbaracle though. Golbat KO'd Rillaboom because I was too lazy to buy more berry juice, and I had to use a level 28 shred on them to revive them.
But wait! There's more! Both floors have their own separate encounters! Call now and you can receive exclusive offers such as these:
Excadrill was one of the defining mons of the Black and White metagame; I don't know the specifics but I'm pretty sure they're amazing. Mega Mawile is also incredible; I used one on my first playthrough. I don't know how good any of the others are. But wait, that's not all!
Yes, that's right. You can catch the Legendary Pokemon Terrakion here; you can get more than one! They're a powerhouse, I also used one on my first playthrough. But it doesn't stop there!
Another costume Pika, Pika Libre, also makes an appearance!
Pika Libre is an electric-fighting type with Huge Power (doubles your attack stat), and a moveset consisting of Volt Tackle (120 damage physical recoil move), Electroweb (55 damage special move that targets both opponents and lowers their speed), Parting Shot (lowers both of the target's attacking stats and then switches out), and Flying Press (100 damage move that is both Fighting and Flying type simultaneously). Just... wow. This Libre is going to be hitting things hard.
Well, next time we'll explore Skyspear Summit.
