Is the sign referring to the caves I just came out of or the items to the left? There's 7 Ultra Balls there, and if you talk to the rock behind them a Metal Coat (boosts steel moves).
The rate at which I go through potions is skyrocketing, so no doubt these will be used up very quickly.
: Turn back please.
Oh well since you asked so nicely sure, I'll give up my quest to save the world. There's a wide lens in the grass below that I recommend picking up; it boosts accuracy by 10% for the holder, which could be the difference between a move failing you at the wrong time and it not.
: Levels? Stats? True masters can win without such trifles.
This guy is funny.
His entire gimmick is fighting you with level 1 Pokemon, using strategies that are still plenty lethal.
Sableye is out here to set two layers of Toxic Spikes with Prankster and Focus Sash, but I don't care because I'm just going to buff Kyubey's evasion and attack to the max (not that I need it). Supposedly it also has Perish Song to force switching in to Toxic Spikes but it's not smart enough to use it.
He gets bored of Sableye and brings out Banette, who starts trying Pranskter-boosted Destiny Bond strats at me.
Unfortunately I'm too busy Swords Dancing to care, so eventually they too get bored and leave.
Okay now lets start cleaning house. It's ultimately only a level 1 Pokemon, I don't need the evasion or the attack, but it's not often that I get to successfully setup sweep.
The thing with Prankster is that it only gives +1 priority; Shadow Sneak is already +1 priority because it's ghost-type quick attack, so the mon who moves first is the one who has more speed (spoiler alert: it's not the level 1 Banette). You know, in theory you could use a Dark Type to cheat this too given that Dark Types gained immunity to prankster-boosted moves in Gen 7.
A second Sableye; this one is a Pain Split user, and unfortunately I eat some damage here because Mimikyu misses an attack and the Sableye is focus sashed.
Eventually I take it down, but Mimikyu is looking a bit low.
The next mon is another Pain Splitter, but this time it's a Sawk with Sturdy holding a Berry Juice, which means it will survive a hit, and then heal up to full once and be ready to survive the next hit, where it can heal up to full again via pain split. It also has Toxic and Protect, but for some reason it doesn't prioritize using Toxic first.
Actually have to pop an Ether here from all the Play Rough's I've been using.
Sawk eventually gets switched out, and I opt to play it safe and heal up on the off chance he does have something threatening. His second Banette is another Destiny Bond spammer, so I'm not too worried because I can keep spamming Swords Dance until it goes away.
Eventually he gets bored of Mimikyu's dancing and sends out Sawk to finally die. He sends out Banette again but they fall to Shadow Sneak the same way.
Finally, the MVP comes out. The mon we've all been waiting for: FEAR Rattata.
Focus Sash, Endeavor, Quick Attack, on a Rattata. That acronym has real ATM Machine energy, but this is a well known meme strat where the Rattata goes down to 1 HP, they bring you down to 1 HP with Endeavor, then they Quick Attack to KO you first.
Ghost type priviledge
Buddy there isn't a next time, you're dead.
Our reward is our own Focus Sash. One Sash might not seem impressive, but held items get refunded at the end of each battle so it's a permanent tool we have at our disposal.
Sun Stone! There's also some goodies to the right that I'd like, and something... suspicious.
We're gonna have to get through some trainers first.
This guy isn't too bad; although Steel Wing takes off half of Kyubey's health right before the fight ends.
Oooh, physical ice move. Avalanche always goes last (barring specific moves) and doubles in power if the user was damaged by the target. 120 power when it's active is nothing to scoff at, but having to move last is very sketchy when a lot of things are super effective against ice.
We can enter the dream of this old guy sleeping on the ground, which takes us to this little shrine area. It bears some resemblance to the Glade of the Moon; unsure if coincidence or if there's a connection there.
: Their rigid minds made perfect prisons.
Saying no here for the time being. If we said yes, we'd be thrown into a wild triple battle with 3 Pokemon: Froslass, Mismagius, and Hydreigon. All 3 of these seem really good, and we can only catch one. I wanted to think on it and maybe get some thoughts before choosing; I chose Hydreigon in my first playthrough but I didn't use them.
First born? Wait, do you mean the same First Born we've been hearing of?
Oh, yikes. Level 61 Regigigas? Gonna need to swap my team around for that.
These two trainers are optional; they require going a slightly longer path with no trainers, but it's convenient to clear them out of the way.
Altaria got off Cotton Guard and is taking barely any damage, and Corviknight is threatening Kyubey, so my first attempt I flee to regroup.
Next attempt goes far better with me leading with Entei; it helps that Altaria chooses not to buff themselves with Cotton Guard this time.
Our reward is an Expert Belt; it boosts supereffective damage by 20%. So theoretically this would be good on a mon with wide coverage; but I wonder if it's better than just sticking the specific type-boosting item that matches your mon's type on them.
I think this is the only Pokémon Ranger in the game.
I had Gengar out in front and he got wrecked immediately by Misdreavus.
Kommo-o just barely survived a Play Rough, so I had to Shadow Sneak to finish it off. Unfortunately, Toasty takes some beating from a psybeam and I don't trust a level 48 Blaziken to not KO Toasty even if I take out Misdreavus. I ideally want to switch into Eve here so I can start spamming Muddy Water, but I don't want to switch them into an incoming attack.
Gabite thankfully takes the pressure off Toasty, even if they ultimately faint for their trouble. Them fainting is enough to bring Eve in though.
Muddy Water and Brine finish the job off pretty well. Nidoqueen is only focused on growling so they aren't too much of a threat.
: Last Bastion of the Firstborn
The Dragonmaster is right there, guarding one of the beacons of hope. I don't feel comfortable taking him on this update.
This guy sells TMs. The image shows all but one of the ones he sells; the last one is TM205 Burning Jealousy.
Woo, Mega Altaria! Pixilate is an incredible ability that turns normal type moves into fairy type moves and buffs them by 1.2x. They're also pretty solid all around, I used one for a bit on my first playthrough.
Yeah, there's an NPC here who will fly you all the way to the other beacon.
We do need to beat a trainer to truly access Queen's Garden, but this is an option available to us. I choose to fly back to the mountain though.
: Welcome, those that have climbed to the peak of power.
Well that sign is far more welcoming than previous signs. Does it outdate previous signs? Anyways, new rest house, new fly spot.
: The world needs a dreamer. Cracks run through the walls of reality. I can hear the Perish Song...
This is probably the most overt hint to the cracks in the walls that lead to the dreaming halls. The crack on this screen is a bit more subtle than other cracks though, probably because of the bottom border on the wall.
More Pokéballs, and the move Acrobatics! Acrobatics becomes 110 power if you aren't holding an item. Only Dragon Ascent (Rayquaza's signature move), Sky Attack (Flying-type Solar Beam), and Brave Bird (Recoil move) outperform this move when the user isn't holding an item. Thats pretty good!
Don't mind me, just getting a squad together for later.
: Yeah, I'm WAY into Shadow Cards! Let's do this!
>Yes
No
No pain, no gain! Bet high, don't cry! High stakes, many steaks! etcetera etcetera
: Woah, that gets the blood flowing. If you win, I'll slip you a Graveler card.
All skill, you know the drill!
: Woah, didn't see that coming! Here, rake it in!
(Money received)
: Here, I'll know you'll use her well.
(Card received)
: Let's play again!
Is Xerneas just a bad luck charm for me? Every time I draw them, I lose despite them being incredibly good.
: Woohoo! Big money for Micah! Let's play again. You'll get me this time.
I win the next two and get myself an Aerodactyl card and an Onix card.
: I clearly need more practice! Better roll on back to the Pokér Lounge. Look, there! A distraction!
He vanishes
: shore of Cradle Isle.
My peakbagging friend has described the view from the top of a mountain as beautiful. For me, it'd probably be dizzying from the height.
: Meetings every 3rd Thursday. Empty your mind. Embrace the birds.
I haven't actually checked if this means something or is just a gag. It'd be really funny if it was true!
: She made them of flame, grass, and sky. Their tantrums nearly destroyed their cradle. Children need teachers. Thus, the Trainers came.
This is almost identical to two books from the very first update! The only difference is that the books in the first update included Earth and Wave among the Flame, Grass, and Sky. Maybe significant, maybe not.
Follow Me forces the opponents to target the user. It'll be useful in a second. Same with reviving and leveling up Drakloak. Anyways...
Poke. Poke. Poke! The last cracked wall, and our final entrance to the Dreaming Halls!
Another weather-setting rock, this one for sandstorm. Stepping on the weird tile removes the barrier, allowing us to come and go to the Dreaming Halls from this entrance. Neato!
Okay, let's finally deal with this Regigigas jerk.
He spends his first turn buffing Regigigas's special defense to the moon. It doesn't matter to us.
I use Follow Me just on the offchance Regigigas went for an attack. Besides Regigigas, the rest of his team is level 1 Whimsicott who all Memento immediately to try and slow down any setup you might try and do while Regigigas stalls out Slow Start. Again, it doesn't matter to us.
That's right, we're using curse strats! Curse takes off 1/4th health off the opponent every turn, at an initial cost of half our own health. So long as Regigigas doesn't switch out, we're fine.
Indeedee does another Follow Me, and gets knocked out in one hit.
That's good enough for Drakloak to get an infestation off, which will make them go down even faster.
Dugtrio comes out, and I protect with both of my mons. Unfortunately, Regigigas is hanging on with just a sliver of health.
Of course he has Full Restores. Why wouldn't he?
I get lucky and get a second Protect in a row with Dugtrio, which is useless in hindsight cause Regigigas didn't end up attacking.
This time he doesn't even bother waiting until Regigigas is at low health to pop another Full Restore.
At this point I stop rolling Protects with Dugtrio and start going for Sucker Punches to try and avoid Regigigas holding on with a sliver of health again, which lets the last Whimsicott finally Memento themselves. Regigigas finally stops getting debuffed from Slow Start at the end of this turn.
A single Fire Punch, and Dugtrio goes down. It's fine though, we only need to survive one more turn.
A single turn of double-protect, and Regigigas falls to Curse. Hell yeah!
Blank Card and Old Amber! We can get an Aerodactyl if we wanted now.
: All this time later, that fact remains. His impotent rage blinds him to the truth. Mine is the only path.
Ji is the name of the Dragonmaster; I could have shown that off this update but I didn't feel like challenging him. Also, sorry guys, but I lied to you earlier this update about something.
Poke.
Poke!
Poke!
This is the final cracked wall in the game, as far as I know. I'm sorry for lying to you!
Ominous Hall of Origin music.
A statue requiring all 5 cosplay Pikachus. We've seen 4, and the last one is found in Queen's Garden.
The statue info on the map gives a helpful hint for finding these; Static has a 50% chance of forcing an electric-type encounter if it's on the lead Pokémon of your party. It's not flawless; Stunfisk in the Upper Caverns are really annoying, and you're better off using Magnet Pull (50% to force a steel encounter) for Punkachu because the lake they're found in is filled with electric types. I didn't know this beforehand, though, cool ability.
Exploring the path that bypasses the two trainers we fought earlier, we can find Steel Wing. I imagine this is a good coverage move for flying types, but if you want a physical steel move for your steel type I recommend Smart Strike instead, it has better accuracy.
Yeah sure! Demos are awesome!
Togedemaru! I prefer Mimikyu as Gen 7's Pikaclone, but Lightning Rod and Sturdy are nothing to scoff at!
Sharp Beak and a Full Restore on the rock to the right. Sharp Beak boosts flying type moves by 20%; pretty good!
We'll be seeing the wild mons in a second.
There's a couple of items and what looks like another Blank Card portrait behind this gate; we need to beat the Dragonmaster to access these.
Alright, let's get my real team back together.
What kind of donation? And why are you talking so slowly?
Nope nope nope that's 48 levels of Uber in a 30 level bag.
Lets bully someone our size instead.
That's much more reasonable!
Behind the hiker is a Never-Melt Ice. This boosts Ice type moves by 20%; cool to have.
Alright, lastly let's check the wild encounters here.
I spoiled that I got a Pidgeot here with the bonus update just before this; but again, Mega Pidgeot is pretty solid. If you didn't pick Murkrow at the beginning, this is your chance to get Honchkrow for the statue in Silent Gods. Skarmory is incredible on stall teams but I'm unsure how good they are in PVE. Gliscor can have Poison Heal, which means you stick a Toxic Orb on them and they get a passive 1/8th Max HP recovery per turn; and supposedly they've been incredible since they were introduced. Mega Lucario I'm pretty sure is incredible, with steel and fighting moves dealing 2x damage instead of the usual 1.5x. For the longest time I thought Pangoro was a Black and White mon instead of an X and Y mon; they get Iron Fist which could be useful and have high attack. I'm unsure how good Staraptor and Mandibuzz are; Smogon says they're good but I'm not familiar with them competitively.
Next time, I'm not sure what I'll do? I'll wing it I guess.
