With powerful back cannons, Blastoise focuses on its mixed defenses and similar mixed offenses. It takes hits and deals them back with excellent Water STAB, an Ice move and good physical coverage with Earthquake, Iron Tail and Return. Sure, you have Ice Punch instead of Ice Beam, but it's all still good. Unfortunately, due to having so much focus on the defenses, it means that it doesn't hit hard as it could do. And its low HP makes its higher defenses not so great. Still, its versatility make it a fine starter to use for most of the game, so good choice overall!
